One of the few places left in Bolton to be really proud of !!!!
Ordered a couple of times, they have also some rarities. If the package needed some time (backorder) they always contacted me, contents were always ok (international shipment).
Terrible site. I ordered a record two months ago that never arrived, emailed them seven times over the last month with not a single reply, finally call and get told that somebody will get back in touch with me (which they didn't) and when I call back days later I got told that my order had been lost.
To ice the cake they tell me that I have to wait days for my refund as they have to move funds around. Funds that they already have received 8 weeks ago from me.
Do not use their website, they do not respond to you or value you as a customer and it's likely that you will not get your order either.
Ordered a box set on 4/22. It's now 6/4 and I haven't heard anything from them. No response to my messages. Currently contacting credit card company for a refund. Perhaps the in-person experience is different, but do not shop online.
Only sent a quarter of the order (they listed as in stock, it was not a pre-order) having charged me for missing items. Paid for next day delivery and they sent it second class. Did not reply to emails or chat and ignored requests for the refund of missing items. Now claiming though my credit card.
Really want to support small record shops but difficult to with X Records given a service as poor as this. Avoid avoid avoid. Go elsewhere. This place does not deserve your money or support.
Ordered a new release online. Payment was taken instantly, 3 weeks later no dispatch notification or other communication. Tried Live Chat and email to contact, but received no reply. Luckily, I had used my debit card, so reclaimed the money via my bank. I try to support independent record shops and bookshops rather than using big chains, but this was a really poor experience.
X Records feedback
I purchased an album through Discogs on 22/02/22.
I received notification on 25/02 that “This item we pulled from stock. While I was collecting other items to send. One of the shop assistants has sold it. I cant apologise enough. I am trying to source from the supplier another copy as it was our last one in inventory.”
3 days later, and after no further communication, I asked for a refund (28/02).
4 days later, with no refund in sight, on the 03/03, I ask Discogs to step in and help with the refund.
After prompting from Discogs, X Records reply on the 04/03 “I will put it down for refund today sir.”
Another 4 days later, on 08/03 I again ask Discogs to step in and help with the refund.
After further prompting from Discogs, X records reply on 10/03 “My boss is processing refunds tomorrow afternoon.”
By close of business on 11/03 no refund in sight so I contact PayPal for help.
I’m finally refunded on 21/03 after waiting 27 days.
My experience of X records is not one I’ll be in a hurry to repeat.
But if you’d like to place and pay for an order, (in effect forming a contract), wait 4 days for X records to pick and pack your order and then be told that someone in the shop has sold it, (in effect breaking the aforesaid contract), this could be the company for you.
If you like being lied to about forthcoming refunds or waiting 27 days for that electronic refund, and in the meantime being batted from X Records to Discogs to PayPal and back again via numerous emails, possibly while staring at your empty record deck, wondering what that great album (you agonised over ordering,) would have sounded like….then X Records is definitely for you.
However, it’s a massive NO from me.
And ironically, I bought the identical, half speed, remastered on 180g vinyl, rare album £7 cheaper (£24 instead of X Records £31) on eBay. It arrived in 3 days.
You have been warned.
The best record shop in the North bar non .An absolute must for anyone serious about their music and vinyl. Steve the the owner is front of shop and knows so much especially local bands. Now have live music venue round the corner at Star & Garter..well worth a trip to Bolton..but be warned give yourself at 2 hours to browse.
I ordered a record through discogs from this company. Received an email the next day saying it had been shipped and received it the day after, in perfect condition and as described. Can’t really ask for more.
Won’t hesitate to use this seller again.
They have a great selection of vinyls in stock online but they “guarantee” next day delivery but their supplier doesn’t deliver to my part of the UK? Said they would refund my fee for delivery but after multiple chase ups no replies. I can’t image the hassle you would have to go through if you had a serious issue with them.
Item only shipped 9 days after order date (domestic) and also arrived damaged. They didn't even refund the postage fee I had to pay to return it. Never again and not recommended.
Item wasn't as described, contacted them, no reply. Will not be ordering from here again.
Excellent store, never fail to get me my vinyl fix especially now i live in France. The review below seems false as they don't sell collectors magazines (I'm constantly asking for magazines).
I ordered a collectors magazine from them which was sold as new, but it arrived with creases and bent corners. I contacted them to tell them about the issue to which I got a reply after a few days to say that another would be sent out. It's been nearly 2 weeks and I've still not received a replacement. Not what you would expect for a magazine costing over £13.
