Make sure you are absolutely 100% definite on dates before booking. I booked a brief trip then the next morning found out a colleague on my team had already booked the same dates as leave, so I had to reschedule. Lost out on 20% of the booking cost because rescheduling 6 months before the trip is penalised just as much as outright cancellation with only 1 day of notice
(I discussed with their customer services. There is a grace period of 24 hours, any rescheduling after that is counted as cancellation).

I used the youth hostel after my mum died, while waiting to be allowed to move into the property. It went really well at first, but then, I used the promotion code on the website. I did not realise terms & conditions changed over Christmas, you can no longer change or cancel booking with 80% refund. I booked 13 weeks for 3 nights a week, lost all my money. I was speaking highly of it. But never again.

I never really write reviews. But made sure I found the time to write this. YHA Bath was an absolute delight. Our family ( 2 adult and 3 children) havent used a hostel for a while and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing, staff were very accomidating and friendly and kids felt safe enough to move around the hostel on their own with confidence. Nice views and very pleasant walk into the city. Highly recommend.

My husband, son and I recently stayed at the Lee Valley hostel. The location is great if you want to visit central London; they offer free parking and the local train station is just down the road. We explored the local country park which was great for walking and observing the local wildlife.
We booked a triple bedroom with en-suite facilities and were very pleased. The self catering kitchen was great for preparing our evening meal and the cooked breakfast was delicious. Great value!
Another wonderful stay at a YHA hostel, this time at Eskdale. A little jewel of a place, a haven at the end of the valley. Lovely, comfortable stay & beds & bathroom facilities, lovely staff, lovely food & drink. What more can one ask for. The staff were / are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning.

YHA LONDON LEE VALLEY IS GREAT PLACE. DRIVE FROM STANSTED AIRPORT 45MIN. OWERGROUND STATION (CHESHUNT) IS LESS THEN 5 MIN WALK
AND YOU CAN REACH CITY CENTRUM IN ABOUT 20MIN. PARKING IS FREE. VERY GOOD BREAKFAST.
YHA Whitby refused to refund me after they asked me to cancel due to an error with my booking saying that they didn’t have any spaces left. It was an error that THEY clearly made. I understand they have a ‘no refund policy’ (despicable if you ask me!), but by rights I should be entitled to one under the circumstances. On the plus side, this booking with YHA was only a last resort after my last visit with what looked to me more like an asylum and am relieved to have since secured a much better accommodation.

Great stay in every respect. Easy to book, and clear communications received prior to arrival. Staff were courteous, friendly, humorous and helpful. Room (private with en suite in a converted granary) was cosy , clean and had all the basics that one needs, the bed was comfortable and warm. Continental breakfast was very good value. Would definitely stay again.
After 5 nights at YHA Cheddar in Somerset our stay was excellent. Location was superb for access to Wells Glastonbury and Bath was an hour by car. Staff went the extra mile, position of hostel beside primary school playground an added delight at play time.
Annexe adjacent to hostel had a self catering kitchen and dining area , both spotless bright and warm . Sufficient toilets and showers although a sink in our bedroom would be good.

Tucked away in the warm embrace of nature with the tumbling River Derwent weaving its way through the landscape within a two minute walk....
What more could you ask for?

Our stay at Penzance YHA was fantastic. We camped and used the hostel facilities (showers, loos, kitchen, lounge), so our holiday was really cheap and great value. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the facilities were good too

I made a booking for a young person, and since there was no option on the booking form to state that the booking was not for myself, I emailed the YHA to make them aware of this, and the name of the person the booking was for. 2 days after the date of the booking passed, I received an email from the YHA stating that they do not accept bookings made on someone else's behalf. I have tried to find out from the YHA whether this vulnerable young person turned up for her bookings and was turned away (and thus placed at risk), but the YHA have not been forthcoming.
So many hostels are only “group hire” of the whole building. So, as I search each hostel, for individual dates for a few people, so many hostels say “unavailable” on those dates and every future date I try, with no further explanation. I keep searching but the web page still say simply “unavailable on those dates”. Actually it’s COMPLETELY unavailable all year round to individuals - so why advertise it? A complete waste of my time trawling through many YHAs and various dates. Surely this is also against the original ethos of YHA, where individuals can have access to the sites. I don’t know what’s happened or changed for this to be the case. But please YHA don’t pretend availability for the individual person or small group when there is simply none.
YHA should have separate lists of those that are only available for whole residence hire. Just wasting my time trawling all through various dates at various sites that turn out to be completely unavailable unless you are spending £3000-£5000 as a “whole residence” group booking.
Staycationing at YHA South Downs was a great experience for us as we found what we were looking for: simplicity, efficiency, cleanliness, a pinch of adventure (we booked one of the tents) among the beauty of nature.
We felt good there and we left recharged and satisfied. And believe me, satisfying teenagers is not an easy task!
I had a great welcome at South Downs YHA. The staff and the fellow hostelers were all lovely. Such a conveniently placed hostel for the South Downs Way and the nearby railway station is another bonus. 10 out of 10.
I was looking for the last minute accommodation. Checked thousands of goos reviews and booked the room for myself and two young children as there was nothing else available around the area.
Well, I am possibly the only person unhappy but I can’t understand how the place below the basic level can cost £150 per night. There is no chair, no table, no bed light. Wall scratches and dents. The bed mattresses are gym mats, the toilet smells. There is no shelf in the bathroom. I read lots of good reviews about the gorgeous veiw. We had a tiny window towards the wall. And when somebody walked outside of the room it was like inside of our room.
Yes, it is situated next to the Whitby Abbey
, amazing historical place and it was the busiest mid summer period but still it should not cost £150.

The hostel was in a great location, comfortable, spotlessly clean, and had all the facilities I needed. The staff were brilliant, welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
I booked a room at yha the sill for August £30 with their 10per cent offer code it reduced it to £27 however six weeks beforehand I needed to cancel.
Believing you can get a 90 per cent refund I was told if you use a discount code its NON refundable Non transferable
I've just returned home from Boggle Hole YHA. It's in a small remote spot on the coast. Quite a few steps up to the Crows Nest accommodation but worth it when in there. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. I'll certainly be looking to return in the future
