Visited recently, I do NOT recommend. Beds had BUGS in them, mould, stains, holes among other things. The curtains were also very thin and I found it very difficult to sleep. There was also a severe lack of plug sockets, and for a large group it's very inconvenient. In the room I stayed in, there was also 2 sinks?? I think you should remove them to make more space, also I think the layout of the room is absolutely ABSURD. The room had not been cleaned thoroughly and there was litter under out beds and the bin had also not been cleaned and I found orange peels in the bin, which i think isnt very sanitary and food can encourage flies and maggots. When we turned the light on, there was a weird silhouette in the light, which I understand could just be a bug, but I still think it's a little untidy. The curtains were thin, ripped and stained which is just poor quality. There's also a severe lack of bathrooms and showers which just isn't fair, again for large groups is an absolute pain. Another thing Is that the doors are incredibly hard to shut and open. Under the fireplace, there was also loose tiles which is a safety concern, as well as other general cleanliness concerns, such as cobwebs, dust and rust. There was also food left on thr ground which again is VERY untidy. theres also PAINT on the ladders and floors as well as leaves and grass. A PART OF THE SIGN FELL OFF. In one of the ither rooms, theres also leaky sinks and theres also plasticky matresses in some rooms. Theres also a huge gap betweens some of the walls, which worries me, as anything could be in there. It also smells awful and WiFi doesn't work. The food was atrocious and the service was even worse. One of my children are allergic to cheese and requested just pesto pasta, and she got the same amount of pesto pasta as everyone else. The service was slow and unbearable and took way too long.
On a positive note, the staff are kind, and the open room is very nice, the beds are also relatively comfortable.

Having just completed the Pennine Way, I stayed at YHA hostels in Edale, Malham, Hawes, and Alston. In all four places the staff were lovely and the facilities good. No fault to find at all.
I would like to have stayed in the hostels at (for example) Crowden, Keld and Dufton, but all of them, and other, have been closed down. This is very sad and I would strongly urge the YHA to reconsider their apparent preference for urban hostels and not give up on the more rural spots.
If you can't run a successful hostel in Keld, where the Coast-to-Coast and the Pennine Way cross, where can you? I note that the building is still operating successfully as a hotel, in other hands.
Please don't forget your roots YHA, get folk out into the countryside, not cooped up in cities...

The hostel itself was in a great location, near to some attractions that may appeal to travelers. The rooms were cozy and adequate for my needs, including an ensuite, a shower room and an extra sink. The linen on the beds was soft and fresh, making them very pleasant to sleep in.
However, I could hear a lot of noise outside the room, making it tricky to get a restful night's sleep. Plus, I felt soap, shampoo and conditioner should have been provided but it was not. There were only three or four bed rooms, making it hard to accommodate solo or partner travelers.
Overall, the YHA was okay, but if you're looking for a five-star hostel I would look elsewhere. If you're just looking for a place to sleep, then it will suffice!

Easy booking, nice communication by email prior staying. Good value for money. In the 2 bunkbeddded room there is no way that any of us adults could claim on the top bunk beds, but the ladders fixed ( non foldable imposing high risk of falling to get in and out toilet and towards the doorway. Staff very very friendly, breakfast very good, but pricey.

YHA Hartington Hall is an old manor house that has enormous character and charm. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. It's not five star accommodation but it is great value for money and has all you need for an active break. I cannot fault it and look forward to returning again. The breakfast was brilliant as well!

YHA Hawkshead. Great value for money! It was my first stay and I was nervous about having to share a room and toilet facilities with people I didn't know. The beds were really comfy, very sturdy and didn't squeak the way bunk beds from boarding school did so didn't have to worry whether my climbing up or down was bothering my bunkmate. People kept noise down and were respectful of others. Toilets really spacious and neat. Basic but really neat. Kitchen had everything I needed to prepare, warm and store my own food. Ambience outside was really nice. I hardly take vacations due to accommodation costs but now that I've discovered YHA is a good place, I'lll be travelling more and spending more nights on my trips.

We are pensioners and were great fans … one of our groups had a medical emergency so we cancelled our booking early in the morning but got the “t’s & c’s response which was unhelpful,. As pensioners we can’t really afford to loose the money so just wanted a credit ..,I have since emailed the CEO twice and customer resolutions but cannot get any response!

Just visited YHA Edale with 150 other walkers from the fire service, they coped brilliantly with the amount of people and the food was excellent. Rooms were clean and comfy and we were well looked after. If I had any tiny comments the shower pressure wasn't great, but it's an old building with lots of people using it, so to be expected. We had an absolute blast, and YHA made it easier.

Hawes YHA is in a beautiful location on the Pennine Way. The hostel is cosy and super clean. The food is home cooked and delicious and the wardens are friendly and helpful. This is how all hostels should be!

Set in beautiful surroundings the YHA hostel in Ilam Hall is really well run, with friendly, helpful staff. The National Trust park in which the hall sits is full of beautiful mature trees and adjoins a local river which makes a lovely walk in either direction

I stayed at YHA Bridges in early May, to be near the Long Mynd, especially to look at Ediacaran rocks. The site is wonderful, tucked away and with many routes for walking and cycling from the door, as well as the 20 minutes drive over the Mynd to Church Stretton. The hostel is simple and individualistic, built as a tiny school in1860s; the manager has converted the space to suit being a cosy hostel and has built annexes which blend seamlessly with the Victorian architecture: a pleasing blend of convenience and the genuine/original. The facilities are simple and down to earth; I self catered but it can be arranged for the manager to cook for groups. It must be a great place for a group to go and is small enough for solo travellers easily to fall into conversation, as I did. The manager was very helpful and advised me about how best to set about what I wanted to do.

The Youth Hostel at Sill is close to Hadrian's Wall and Sycamore Gap. The location is fantastic, the staff brilliant and food is excellent. It is ideal for walkers. It is a hostel not a hotel. Hostels are more friendly than most hotels and I would strongly recommend the YHA for active people of all ages, such as walkers, cyclists and climbers. I have been using YH hostels for 60 years.

Such value for money and a great chance to meet new people. YHA has given me a new sense of adventure as a single, late 40s woman. Love it.

If I could give a zero review I would have. Our dogs were poisoned and required out of hour vets. Not only will the YHA not own up to it (full proof, video and vets bill) but they have refused to even pay the vets bill. This was a 50th birthday party, thousands of pounds spent on the venue and weekend and most of it spent at rhe vets.
Open bait traps, children, dogs, anybody could have been there.
Sod you YHA, a life long supporter who will never visit your sites again.
We stayed one night at YHA The Sill Hadrians wall. It was fantastic and I really don't know how they provide such good accomodation at this price. The staff were all friendly and professional throughout our stay and couldn't do more to help guests. The whole place was spotlessly clean. The rooms were warm and comfortable and I slept really well. The bathroom was well maintained with a good shower. We will definitely be back

A lovely hostel in a splendid old building, set an a marvellous grounds.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I stayed in a shared room which was really clean, as were the facilities. The only problem I had was that there were two very loud snorers in the shared room which resulted in a broken sleep.
