YHA at Grinton, North Yorkshire is amazing!
Had a wonderful trip to Grinton Lodge YHA. Location is superb if you like amazing views. Large bike store for those who need it. Food and drink available on site (many pubs and restaurants not open on certain days locally) and the staff are the best! My fourth trip here and it continues to impress. Highly recommended.

1st experience was not great, I won't be returning. I wasn't given option to have lower bunk because I booked a day more? Have to buy a lock for belongings & had no apology when given wrong no. bed! I checked out 2 day early, no thanks.by

Great base for walking
What an idyllic setting for a Youth Hostel. We used it for a one night stay whilst walking in the Lake District. Our room was very clean and warm. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food menu was slightly disappointing: very carbohydrate heavy, not many vegetables on offer, but what we ate was satisfying. A few more healthy options wouldn’t go amiss.
Great social spaces and facilities. We would return.

Staff happy to help
Staff were only too happy to help with special requests such as luggage storage and an extra night's stay. I had assumed kitchen facilities were available but although they weren't my ready meal was reheated for me.

Loud and cold but friendly staff!
Staff was very friendly and helpful! But the room was awful, cold and very very loud. Felt like I was sleeping inside the club downstairs. But it was also very cheap, so couldn’t expect much.

Other residents arguing and shouting…
Other residents arguing and shouting until after 2.30 am. No info given of how to contact staff. Only time I've felt even mildly unsafe in a yha
Noisy school party on another night.
So poor sleep on 2 nights of 3. Staff moved me to a quiet room for the third.
They need to get on top of this as it seems to be the source of most yha complaints. I will still use yha but not this hostel.

Deputy manager is just rude hope you…
Deputy manager (CAMBRIDGE) is just rude hope you don’t come across her. The short white guy not too sure what his name is, is very helpful. If you turn up at the hostel try and deal with him and not the lady deputy manager. Her attitude makes you feel like you are attending a homeless shelter.

We had a brilliant stay in this lovely building with quirky decor in the bar and the most of friendly staff. The location was perfect for us, not too far from Keswick either.

I am a born again Christian and I was talking to a member of staff about my faith in Jesus and we talked about sin and in this conversation I mentioned that the bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin, with that they called me later when I was out with family to go back and they forced me into a private room away from other guests and made me leave which I have on video and will be using that video to highlight the seriousness of what they did to me as a practising Christian.
