Rented a care from Alamo at the Edmonton airport. Found out a week later that my credi card was charged by an employee named Sam for an additional $500 without our consent. Almost a month, multiple messages left and no return call back from this location. We are beginning to believe that he did this for his personal gain. The customer service here is the worst we have ever experienced. As of today, we have not been given our money back
This place is a rip off they will overcharge you like crazy.
This place is a rip off. I rented a car for 3 days then called to extend my rental another 2-3 days was charged 200 something for first 3 days was charges 764 for the 2nd 3 days. Un real these people are such liars and scammers. So beware they will rob you
Cheapest option I could find
Cheapest option I could find. They gave me excellent service, when I had a flat tire and charge nothing for changing your car. However they charged me too much for the rental, so I needed to call them and ask for a refund.
Alamo uk

Never rent from Alamo or pray you don't need roadside assistance
This was my first and possibly last time renting a car from Alamo Rent A Car. If you are unfortunate enough to need their roadside assistance, you will probably be SOL.
Recently, I rented a car in Honolulu, HI and planned to spend the day on the North Shore. Around 7:30am, we headed to the North Shore in a VW Beetle convertible. After driving about 45 min, the “check coolant” warning appeared, implying the fluid levels were not serviced before we rented the car. Imagine the concern, given it was going to be a 90 degree day. I called roadside assistance and their first solution was for me to drive back to Honolulu to exchange the car. I promptly said no and the next solution was to wait for another vehicle to be delivered. Finally, four hours later (around 12pm), we received a replacement VW Beetle convertible.
Around 5pm, when returning to the car, the keyfob was not working. Inside the car were our cell phones and we could not open the doors. With the help of bystanders, we figured out how to manually open the driver side door. However, the car would not start because the keyfob was not being recognized. At this point, we are on the side of the road next to a beach. Good samaritans drove to town and brought us back a new battery for the keyfob but the car still wouldn’t start.
At 6pm, I called roadside assistance again. The first person told us to charge the keyfob in center console. This did not work.
Again, I made another call to roadside assistance. They insisted it must be a dead car battery (even though I insisted the keyfob was the issue) and instead of sending a tow truck , would only send a person to try to jump the car. We waited until 7:45pm for the person with the jumper cables. As predicted, it was not the car battery and was still a keyfob issue.
For at least the fourth time that day, I called roadside assistance again. They dispatched a tow truck, which arrived around 9pm. This tow truck loaded up the beetle. The driver got a call stating there might be some confusion and he might at the wrong location. He continued to drive anyway for about 15-20 min and then the driver received another call. He hung up and said to us “I am not getting paid for this tow. You can either give me cash to get to your destination or I leave you here.” Since there was no way we were paying him, he immediately stopped the truck and within seconds unloaded the beetle onto the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Roadside assistance sent the wrong tow truck!
Now, it’s 9:30pm and we’re stranded again! We make yet another call to roadside assistance who, after much arguing, dispatches another tow truck, which arrived around 10:45pm. Roadside assistance had promised that the driver would take us directly to our hotel so that “we can rest after a long day.” When the driver arrives, he loads up the car without saying a word and then asked if we were expecting a car. Much to our surprise, the driver had no idea he was taking passengers. Roadside assistance neglected to inform him he was taking passengers! He was about to leave us on the side of the road but luckily agreed to let us come with him. First, he told us he would take us to a “safe location” to request an Uber but we are forever thankful he took us to our hotel. Alamo was supposed to provide another vehicle but this never happened.
So if you rent from Alamo Rent-A-Car, pray you don’t need roadside assistance. You might need a car exchanged, be sent the wrong tow truck, and be left stranded on the side of the road not only once but possibly twice all in the span of a one-day rental.
Just to contrast all the bad stuff on…
Just to contrast all the bad stuff on here:
I've used Alamo a bunch of times throughout the U.S. and I've never had any issues what so ever with the car, service or hidden charges. I get that most people who write reviews are those who have the misfortune of getting screwed in some way, but that's definitely not the norm (unless I've been crazy lucky).
Alamo Rent A Car was a complete…
Alamo Rent A Car was a complete rip-off.
My family and I took a one week vacation to Mallorca, Spain while on overseas work assignment in that country.
I rented the car via Expedia and paid for full insurance coverage.
When we arrived at Aeorpuerto San Sant Joan in Mallorca the representative at the Alamo counter tried to tell me that the insurance coverage I purchased via Expedia was not valid and offered me a plan through Alamo directly. He, Alvaro, also charged me an extra 110 Euros for my rental period explaining that these were local fees not counted in the online rental.
When we went to pick up the rental we were shown a compact car. We were a group of five with one child. I protested, was resisted but stood my ground and finally we were taken to the van that I initially reserved through my Expedia booking.
These were THREE attempts (one successful) in scamming me.
How disgusting! Shame on you Alamo Rent A Car! Suffice to say, I have and will never rent from this company again, and have spread the word to all my family and friends.
Never will use Alamo Again!
Rented an Alamo car in November for travel in February 2019. Got to Santo Domingo and waited 2.5 hours before I really pitched a fit and was driven to a car 10 minutes away. Standing in the hot, humid, sticky heat after traveling all day was not the way I wanted to spend my 1st day of vacation. Was given a car. Representative said if the bumper falls off, don’t worry. Really??
4 days later, I returned the car. Alamo gave us $15.00 to leave a good review. They can keep their $15.00. They were awful to work with. The car was fine, the Customer Service was the absolute worse!! This company is really terrible!
I won't say my experience was great
I won't say my experience was great but it was definitely not bad. I might think again before availing your service but I will definitely consider it.
Thank you!
Awful company - Alamo in Florida
We used Alamo in Florida. To be honest, the car and service at the airports were all ok and good but since then they have really angered me. Their customer service after they have had your money is AWFUL - so, DO NOT USE!!!! Find a different company. I have tried multiple times, a good 12 emails to this company to retrieve my stepdads phone that he left in the car by accident. They are no help what so ever, not replying to my emails, not locating the phone - they just don’t care at all. This is my stepdads business phone and although it was his fault for forgetting it, as a business you should be prepared to deal with these accidents. We can even see the phone on the lost and found page - what is the point of having a lost and found page if you have no intention of giving anything back? Probably kept the phone for themselves.
Awful company - do not use - do not think we will ever get our phone back because of their awful customer service.
Extremely bad experient with Alamo at…
Extremely bad experient with Alamo at San Francisco Airport. Upon arrival the automated machines kept aborting part way through the booking so I had to join the queue instead. Upon being served I said that I have the maximum cover in place and therefore do not want any additional cover. I was asked to initial several times on a form, and was at no time told that I would be agreeing to taking out any additional cover.
When I returned home a cost of $64.22 was added to my credit card. When investigated what this was for Alamo said it was for Roadside Plus and that I had agreed to it as it had my initial beside it. I had at no stage had this pointed out to me, nor had it been discussed when I took the car out. The Alamo employee, called Dan, just added this cost.
When we went to collect the car that we had pre-booked c11 months before, we had to wait 2 hours for it to arrive!
The customer service was abysmal. They prey on tourists from long-haul flights.
AVOID using Alamo at all costs. I definitely will NOT be using them again.
I wouldn't recommend this business
I wouldn't recommend this business, its a total ripoff.I did my reservation as one package through spirit and I went to pick a car at the airport, I had to pay an extra which was double what I ve been charged already(Tax, fees, insurance, other crab). The agent was unfriendly.Never again
Appalling customer service. If something goes wrong, you're on your own!
On highway 41 we had a problem with the car, we had switched to economode about 10-15 miles earlier, when we lost all power, apart from the radio bizarrely! The engine stopped, no power brakes, or steering five people and luggage in a Dodge Caravan, two ton people carrier. This happened on a downhill, fortunately there was a turnout at the bottom of the hill and , with a struggle, I brought the vehicle safely to a stop. Roadside assist didn't volunteer to come out, and I got out of office replies from the San Fran office. Next stop Yosemite park with steep mountain roads!! It has taken over 2 months since we came back from the states, with help from the LA office and UK customer services, to resolve this. long delays in replying or unanswered emails. At no point was the seriousness of the problem acknowledged. We were an irritating customer being fobbed off. DO NOT rent from here, if something goes wrong, you're on your own!
