They charged me 3 months after I cancelled...no refund

They overcharged me 3 months after I was able to prove cancellation in a timely manner and they acknowledged this and claimed that they would mail me a refund check. I was told by people that I would never see that check because they had a reputation for this. They were right. Anytime Fitness never refunded me. It's theft and highly dishonest and bad business. Never again.

Impossible to cancel a membership - do not join

I decided to cancel my membership so I went to the gym one day and the rep was not there. No problem, I'll get them on the phone. Called them in the afternoon and no answer. No problem, I'll email them. Sent an email and no answer. I went to the gym almost very day for 2 weeks and could not find someone that worked there. Finally almost 2 months later, someone got back to me via email.

The kicker was, I could not be compensated for the months I was charged while try to cancel. I was CHARGED EXTRA to cancel despite being told that fee was going to be waived when I first signed up. This is a complete racket of a business. DO NOT SIGN UP. Reported this activity to the FTC.

A gym should be treated like community

A gym should be treated like community, not like business! they charge fees for failed payment and give an excuse of payment getaway... Why should you aren’t adjust it accordingly because gym isn’t a mandatory place for anyone, people go to make themself feel better, stronger and connected. They charged 60 RM just for 6 days delayed on fees! Could you amazing something like that from a gym? pathetic. It’s better you go to a local gym because they will treat you like community.

I’m writing this reviewDeceptive “Free 18 Sessions” Promotion — Fraudulent Membership Enrollment to warn others…

I’m writing this review to warn others about my experience with Anytime Fitness – Grand Parkway, TX, owned by Benjamin.

I found an ad on Craigslist that offered 18 free personal training sessions — it specifically stated “no catch.” The ad and follow-up text messages (which I’ve saved) clearly said the sessions were free and that this was not a paid membership. Based on that, I scheduled a time to come in.

When I arrived, Benjamin was friendly and welcoming. He asked for my ID, saying it was just for verification. I never signed any paperwork or provided any payment information. The entire visit was presented as an introduction and orientation for the free sessions.

However, right after leaving the gym, I received an email notification saying, “Thank you for signing up for your membership.” I was completely shocked — I had not signed, agreed to, or paid for any membership.

The following day, I received devastating medical news at my doctor’s appointment: I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. As a widow and mother of three, this was an extremely difficult time. I immediately called Benjamin to let him know I would not be able to do the sessions because of my diagnosis. His response was dismissive — he told me, “Oh well, you’re already signed up for the membership.”

I reminded him that I never signed a contract, made a payment, or agreed to any terms — and that his ad and messages stated “free sessions, no catch.” He told me to contact corporate, so I did. Corporate informed me that this particular Anytime Fitness location is privately owned and that the owner himself (Benjamin) would have to fix the issue.

Instead of correcting it, Benjamin sent a contract I never signed or authorized to collections for $708. I have since been contacted by multiple credit agencies trying to collect on this fraudulent “debt.”

I have text message proof and documentation that show I was misled and that this offer was represented as 100% free. I was never given a membership agreement to sign, nor did I give permission for my ID information to be used for a contract.

This entire experience has been deceitful, unethical, and extremely stressful — especially while dealing with a serious medical condition. What was presented as a simple “free trial” turned into a credit nightmare.

Please be careful before providing your ID or personal information to this location. I hope Anytime Fitness corporate takes action against this type of misleading behavior and protects future customers from the same situation.

Extra charges to cancel!

Piled on extra charges when I cancelled, in violation of contract. Contract said 30 days' notice required to cancel, but when I tried to cancel during an account freeze, they insisted on activating the cancel after the end of the freeze in order to extract an extra month's fees. If there is a fee to cancel, say that, don't fraudulently name it a "notice period".

BEWARE

BEWARE! This company has ALOT of small print....and a very long contract that they are hoping you dont read in it's entirety.

Let me help you .... dont be in a rush to sign like we were.....!
The representative wont be upfront about the contract ....they leave little tidbits out such as a $54 gym enhancement fee every 6 months added to your payments of $80/month

Let me explain..... I had a car wreck which led to surgery. I am unable to workout due to an injury. I went to the gym TWICE before I was told I needed surgery ....

I emailed them to cancel after explaining that I would need surgery.

According to their contract:

YOU MUST BE DEAD OR PERMENANTLY DISABLED to cancel.

Strange.....but here is where you realize this gym is NOT the place for you. There's other gyms that gives more bang for your buck.

You must cancel 30 days in advance AND the penalty is 50% of what you owe or $300 which ever is greater.

From conception the fees were $38.49 biweekly @39 weeks. Total for 39 weeks beginning in August would be $1501.00 total......TWO months into the contract im told my balance is over $1500 🤣. MORE than the ORIGINAL balance although they received all payments up to date. ...

Wait for it...... they are charging TWO $54 fees for gym ENHANCEMENT...which somehow adds up to $181.49.. for a gym I WONT be using AFTER I cancel the contract. So why am I being charged for that again?

For the $80 a month.......THIS GYM IS TINY. Parking is a joke. Equipment is jammed atop equipment....
There toilet/shower combination is ridiculously uncomfortable.....
No lockers just cubby holes.
Every bit of equipment is sitting flush to the equipment next to it.

Cross training ability is a joke here since theres ONE of every machine except treadmills and elliptical.... they claim peak hours are in the evening but the space is so small it ALWAYS feels crowded!

Other places are alot cheaper! Larger! And offer more for your money..... plus the contracts are not sketchy with interchangeable interpretations.

No where does the contract speak of paying gym enhancement fees to cancel.
I mean why would I pay to enhance a gym that im no longer a member of?

Attempting to charge FUTURE DUES AND THE TOTAL BALANCE left? Basically charging me TWICE because they wanted a 30 day notice to cancel...which was originally given Sept 6th.

I cant speak for other anytime gyms but this particular one is not worth the trouble or money they charge..... Anytime Canal Street....thumbs down!

God forbid you get injured and are unable to workout out....

Think twice before going anywhere near this especially the one in Armstrong Creek, Victoria. They're only interested is your bank account and certainly not your physical well-being. I was injured in their "assessment" so cancelled and they set debt collectors onto me. Scumbags

Don’t bother!

I would think twice about getting a membership at anytime fitness. not only are they a lot more expensive then other gyms, in the contract you sign, there is a section that states if you want to cancel, it is your 30 day cancel request. which means you still have access to the gym for 30 more days and we are going to charge you 2 more payments. crooks! Who does that?! If I’m canceling my membership, it could be for many different reasons. What if I can no longer afford the mmembership? You’re doing to still charge me an additional month?! I would never refer this gym to anyone! Also, I went there some months back with my son who is 13. The guy working there at the time said it was illegal for minors to be in the gym under 16. Which I know is a lie. I went back later to cancel my membership and the lady was trying to talk to me about memberships for minors, she said he is able to come but he would need a membership, which costs the same as my membership. I am not paying over $40 for a membership for my minor son. this place is ridiculous!!

Anytime Fitness is the worst gym in…

Anytime Fitness is the worst gym in Australia. I paid for a 12-month membership to Anytime Fitness Buderim, QLD 4556. The GYM was a rathole. Old and unsafe equipment. No trainer on-site. In 2 months, they just shut and left due to financial issues and the landlord changing the keys. I wrote several times to AF support. Man! Their customer support is the worst I've ever encountered. Finally, they asked for my account details for a refund and disappeared, ignoring all my follow-up messages. I had to lodge a formal complaint to QLD Consumer Affairs. Never go near them, even if that means you have to work out at home. They are the worst.

DO NOT JOIN ANYTIME FITNESS ABBEYWOOD

DO NOT JOIN ANYTIME FITNESS ABBEYWOOD – They intentionally blocked my access despite full payment being made. The excuse given was that I had changed banks and needed to provide new direct debit details. Instead of resolving the issue properly, they escalated matters and even passed my information to a rogue debt collector. This is completely unacceptable and highly unprofessional.

Anytime Fitness in Worthington

Anytime Fitness in Worthington, Ohio is the worst gym experience I’ve ever had. I tried to cancel my membership because I had to move. I provided the necessary documentation. I was told that everything will be fine. Six months later I get a notice from collections for over $550. I have. I tried to call corporate numerous times to get no responses from far. I am traveling back home to confront the manager who lied to me in person. This gym is the worst experience I would never recommend it to anyone unless they want an absolute headache. Also, they never had their TVs on. The music was never playing. The whole experience was pretty awful. Chris Whitt is an awful Liar and the worst manager I’ve ever met. You can’t get a hold of him. You can’t get out of corporate. It’s a joke. It’s a scheme. It’s a scam.
