Booked through British Airways holidays, good prices, great service with the pre check in which saves time.

Entry level car was in poor condition with faults on reverse warning light and tyre pressure. This was not mentioned at handover. In addition, the car was clearly aged as it had many bumps and scrapes.
On return on the Friday at around midday to Belfast city airport there was no Avis staff present at either the return office or inside the airport - very strange for a normal working day. This meant no confirmation of all in order on return was received either then or later.
What then happened shocked me a bit with a £200 charge to my credit card. I had to chase Avis to explain what this was thinking it might be some form of return charge. Turns out it is a security deposit which was not explained until later querying what charge was.
All in all not a good experience.

All steps in this process went so smoothly. A short wait to be seen by a very friendly Avis lady. Interview lasted on a few minutes and we had just a two minutes walk to the car.
The car was a 2025 model with just 16,000 miles on the clock. It served us perfectly over our long weekend and returning it also went without delay and we were delighted by our overall experience with Avis

Car collection fine from
Belfast international airport - upgraded for free - hidden extras on insurance etc but we had our own - drop off not so good - to City airport - returns check in staff had written the wrong number plate on their paperwork prompting us to receive calls and emails asking where their car was - a massive shock to us as we were back in England by then ! Not a great returns system, as he was reluctant to hand over any paperwork confirming we had returned the car ! Mmmm - all a bit suspect to me !

Excellent service from AVIS at Derry airport. Met with a lovely smile and pleasant manner by Brian- a very friendly guy.
Fast efficient pick up with the car, it barely took more than 5 minutes to complete. No problems with the car - it was very clean and tidy. Return was the same as pick up- all sorted very quickly.
Thank you Brian!

Avis Dublin airport attempted to post a €3880 charge to my credit card for Miscellaneous Services. Had my bank not alerted me to the attempt and me nearly missing my flight by returning to the returns desk to sort out this a charge would have occurred. The origin is an error in Avis systems. When you return the car the preauthorised excess should be removed before the final invoice is issued. Apparently sometimes this automatic removal does not happen and the full charge placed on the card. A manual override is necessary. I strongly suggest every Avis customer carefully inspects the documents they are required to sign when returning the car to ensure that such an error does not happen to them. Avis customer services at the airport acted very quickly, but had they not done so a very expensive charge would have been made.

We were given a dangerously faulty car, with the engine oil completely empty, which put our lives at risk while travelling abroad for work.
After two months of back-and-forth with customer service, the only solution they offered was a €15 refund for the oil, completely ignoring the seriousness of the situation and the danger we were exposed to.
Customer service has been non-existent, the attitude negligent, and the lack of responsibility truly alarming.
A dangerous, frustrating, and unacceptable experience from start to finish.
We will never use Avis again and strongly recommend that other travellers avoid them as well.

Easy service - a breeze through the airport collecting the keys and on my way in 30 mins - if only every hire was so simple

I never had an issue when collecting my car. Always giving the right information for the car details. Friemfly and engaging staff. On my last visit the repestantive from another car hire helped even though he is not working for Avis. Shows real commilment and teamwork. Highly recommend

Great price , good quality car which was clean , easy to drive and efficient meant that having an Avis rental car while in Belfast recently was a pleasure and helped make for a great trip.

On the 16th of October I rented a car ( small group A )through the Avis Prefered program at Dublin airport. Having rented many cars through Avis Preferred I was very disappointed when I picked up the car allocated to me. The Dacia Sandero had no infotainment or even a radio & one old USB contact which was useless for charging my iphone 16e. I was offered another car ( which I accepted) an Opel Corsa this time with an infotainment centre but no USB for my phone, which necessitated buying an adapter cable. I recently rented a Group A car at Alicante Airport & was given a brand new Renault Clio with a very generous spec & this has been my experience at this location before & at other UK airports. The bargain basement offerings I’ve been offered (on at least two occasions) at Dublin airport are not up to Avis Preferred & reflect poorly on the brand. My conclusion, a less than satisfied customer.

So smooth from booking online to collecting car a Derry airport. Couldn’t have been easier.
Martin was excellent agent at airport, seamless transaction, knowledgeable and friendly and pleasantly witty! Brought car to front of the building for me. 5 stars all the way

I see your reply, but what you were saying is just not true. I had my own automobile insurance on my card. I was never told that if I produced a letter that that would eliminate the $30 charge. I did have a letter on it that I was never told that producing a letter would help in anyway. Also, you took a €5000 hold on my account until I return the car.
There is literally no way to rent a car at Shannon Avis without getting nondisclosed fees added onto the rental. It is impossible to do. I specifically asked the question how can I avoid the fees and they said there is no way to avoid the fees.
So you are continuing to mislead and misrepresent the facts.
My original review is below in it stands.
Warning!! Bait and switch on fees!! The rate quoted is not the rate you will receive!
Avis likes to quote you a low rate, but then when you get to the counter you must either buy their insurance or they will charge you a fee to not use their insurance. That's right, a FEE NOT TO USE THIER INSURANCE!!
They call it a "security fee" or a "premium location fee."
My advice: Don't rent with Avis. Use a company with transparent pricing.

Always use Avis when hiring a car in Ireland. Amazing customer service and friendly. Never have to wait long which is always a bonus. Got an upgrade this time loyalty pays!

Avis never fail to provide me with a professional and friendly service, whenever I use them. More often than not, I even get an upgraded vehicle too. I highly recommend them.

Would give zero stars if that was an option…
On the first day we picked up our hire car we were pulled over by the police in Northern Ireland due to the car being flagged as stolen. The police officer fixed this issue for Northern Ireland, but advised us to contact Avis as it could have still been flagged as stolen in the Republic of Ireland.
We contacted Avis immediately after to notify them that the car was reported as stolen, however received no response. Followed up a couple days afterwards and still no response. Got to returning the car and advised them of the issue, which we were told would be escalated to the manager, but have still heard nothing. Sent a third follow up and still no response. At the time of writing this review it has been two weeks since we had this issue and still nothing from Avis.
Beyond disgraced at this error on their behalf, by giving us a car they had flagged as stolen. This has been made worse by zero response and customer service from Avis. Will never rent with them in Ireland again.

No problems here; easy to making booking alongside the BA flight. Desk immediately obvious in the Arrivals Hall. Friendly and efficient staff with clear and transparent explanation of costs/insurance options. Collection point a short walk from the terminal and drop off could not have been easier. A very positive experience that I hope to repeat next time I visit.
