I have been a fan and user of Blinkist for several years. I found the summaries pertinent and useful, and the variety of summaries was also great. More importantly, to me at least, was support after the sale! When I have contacted the support team at Blinkist I have ALWAYS received a prompt and helpful response with solutions to issues being experience. Rarely is support after a sale so positive.

Extensive library which includes a wide range of subjects and leading authors. The summaries are well done and the overall experience is thoroughly enjoyable. The support team responds really quickly and are most helpful.
I highly recommend this program.

This company steals from consumers.
They do not notify you of upcoming renewals or charges and when you immediately respond and try to cancel, they refuse due to "policy". They call it "policy". I call it "stealing", "fraud" and wildly dishonest and deceptive business practices.
I had a similar issue with another platform based in the US where I was charged for annual subscription that I didn't authorize, and they listened to me, responded immediately, reversed the charge and cancelled the subscription - no questions asked.
THAT - is good customer service. While I don't use their service and didn't remember signing up for it, they made it right and saved their brand reputation. This kind of behavior is the baseline. In a world where transference between brands matter, Blinkist is not only failing, but I would argue behaves with a deceptive, crooked, criminal lean.
I asked the service representative to please share the specific details of my account - where / in what state it was created, whether it has ever been activated, and if it has ever actually been used - in order evaluate the validity of this charge, my customer standing, likelihood of if I'd want the subscription renewed, etc. It's pretty basic use of customer data to understand if I am an active customer or not and if I'd actually intended to subscribe to anything, much less renew or if the account was created fraudulently. They refused to share this information, most likely because my account will show that it has never been used or even fully activated. If they took a moment to look at the actual data, they would see that subscription and renewal was not my intent as a consumer and give me a full refund. They missed the opportunity to not only make it right for me, but also to protect the brand over the long term.
This is bad business. They are stealing from people and should be held accountable.
If you don't believe me, here is Google Gemini's review:
"Based on user feedback and reviews, bad experiences with Blinks Labs GmbH (operator of the Blinkist app) primarily center on automatic subscription renewals, difficulties in obtaining refunds, and issues with app content quality, specifically regarding AI-generated summaries.
Here are the specific, recurring complaints:
1. Billing and Subscription Issues
Automatic Renewal Charges: Many users report being charged for a full year of service after a free trial, sometimes alleging they cancelled, yet still being charged.
Difficulty Getting Refunds: Several users have expressed extreme frustration with the company's refusal to honor refund requests, even when requested shortly after a trial ends, often describing the process as a "scam".
App Store Complications: For subscriptions made via Apple App Store, users report that Blinkist denies responsibility for refunds, directing them to Apple, which creates a loop of non-resolution.
2. Content Quality and Technical Issues
Quality of AI Summaries: Recent complaints indicate a dip in quality, with some users noting that AI-generated summaries feel "bot-like," repetitive, and inferior to earlier human-written ones.
Accuracy Issues: There are reports of factual errors within the summaries, including incorrect details, such as in the case of a user finding inaccurate information in a summary of Dune.
Unusable Highlight Tool: A specific complaint notes that the highlighting tool is broken, consistently cutting off letters at the start and adding random characters at the end.
Dislike of Narrator Voices: Some users find the audio narration "tasteless" or annoying.
3. Customer Service Complaints
Lack of Response: Several users have reported that customer service is slow to respond, unresponsive, or sends generic canned responses that do not address the specific issue.
"Other" Cancellation Trap: Users trying to cancel have felt pressured or misled by cancellation forms that limit options to just "Other," making it difficult to state the actual reason for leaving.
4. Product Value
Superficial Content: Critics argue that the 15-minute summary format is too superficial to offer genuine learning and that the content is overpriced compared to other, more comprehensive services."

I like the content is available in both text and audio form. I can review books before getting full versions.

I get a lot of value from these Blinks. The summaries of great books here on Blinkist are well-spoken, short, and to the point.
At the end of these excellent summaries, they provide a 'Final Summary' that explains what you just listened to in an even more concise, narrated way. It really helps the main points stick! This is very close to a full score! :)

After reading the “one star” reviews it is obvious that the subscription process is something no one should deal with.

It's easy to sell things but not always easy to follow up with good customer service when things go wrong. I'm happy to say that's not the case with Blinkist.
There was an oversight with two payments going through. I emailed and they requested info. I duly sent info. They quickly replied just a further check, I didn't reply as I missed the email. They sent a further email is all well can we help. I replied and now have the confirmed refund and all is well.
Not often companies follow up when things are left hanging, they are normally happy that you went away. Blinkist didn't and that makes all the difference. Widy was great
