We paid for Business class seats 3 months in advance for 2 bullet trains. Close to our travel dates, the tour agent told us there were no Business or First class seats in both trains. On our 1st train, we saw there was no passenger in the Business class carriage. For our 2nd train, counter staff at the station told us there were lots of empty Business class seats. Not using this tour agent again.

We (a group of 6 including a 95 year old lady) were on a trip through China. We asked the agency to book for us two separate segments of GaoTie, first from Shanghai to Fuzhou and then from Fuzhou to Shenzhen.
For the Shanghai to Fuzhou segment, the agency bought us 6 tickets in business class with one of the six being located in a different cabin due to the fact that these business class cabins have only 6 seats in each. As such, it is quite understandable that one of us was separated from the group.
For the Fuzhou to Shenzhen segment, the agency called me the moment the ticket purchasing opened telling me that all the business class seats were sold out within 20 seconds. As a result, we were downgraded to first class. The agency refunded us the fare difference promptly. What we noticed after we got on the train was that the business class was wide open with many empty seats. I presume the reason was that GaoTie changed the type of cars they put on that train.
Overall, I find China Highlights being highly professional, very reachable and very responsive. These are the important qualities for us, a bunch of people living in the US and are unfamiliar with the ins and outs of purchasing GaoTie tickets.

Booking HSR tickets in China would be extremely challenging for non-chinese speakers, particularly from overseas. The China Highlights team were very easy to deal with, communications were clear and they were pro-active. Getting seats on the fastest trains is a very competitive process, with 1st class seats selling out within hours of being released. One train booked fine, but on the second, the seats weren’t available when Chine Highlights went to book. The communication with Trent was excellent, we agreed an alternative from the options he offered and it was swiftly booked.

Really easy booking process, and tickets came through perfectly.
