Great Experience!

This was my first time selling through an Auction House so a totally new experience!
I had inherited a fair amount jewellery from my Aunt and decided to have it valued with the intention of putting it into auction.
Raphaelle Godfrey and Sara Malorgio couldn't have been more helpful with their advice on value and whether items were best sold individually or in small 'lots/bundles'.
The auctions have yet to take place and I'm well aware that not all items may sell. However, once again, I'm sure that I can ask the advice of Raphaelle and Sara on the best way to proceed.
On my experience so far I can thoroughly recommend Chiswick Auctions to anyone wishing to have items valued and/or placed into auction.

Very professional from purchase to…

Very professional from purchase to collection. Great communication from Eva, John Rogers and Mary Matthews was great at pointing me in the right direction to collect when I did a “man look” at the address 😀. Look forward to any future dealings as you made my first experience a great one. Thank you.

Thank you Toby!

I recently needed to auction several items that I had inherited. I emailed enquiring how I should go about arranging this and received a quick response from Toby Roberts, Head of Interiors, Homes and Antiques. I went to see him and was warmly welcomed and he was understanding and informed about the items. He kept in touch throughout the whole process and gave me confidence that I was dealt with fairly. Watching the live auctions was fascinating and Toby was very professional and entertaining. I cannot praise him highly enough and I will always use Chiswick Auctions in the future.

Amazing Service

From the outset, in dealing with Mary Pelletier and then subsequently with Chiara Macerola, the experience has been terrific. They have both been so professionals, amazing and super helpful. I could not have asked for more from the both of them and will absolutely continue to use the services of Chiswick Auction.

Books & Works on Paper Auction

I put up a book for auction and Clive Moss the head of the book department appraised the book and entered it in the sale for a second time as, at the sale in January, an interested buyer withdrew his bid before that sale.
We discussed the estimate and agreed the reserve. I was pleased that the book sold for the reserve price and although I have dealt with Clive previously I am grateful for his expertise.

Outstanding Service from Chiswick Auctions

The service from Chiswick Auctions, represented by Mary (Senior Specialist, Photographs), blew me away. Mary 'went the extra mile' to confirm and reinforce the provenance of my photographic print. This led directly to the achievement of a sale price beyond my expectations. Mary also kept me informed throughout the process and was a pleasure to partner with. I recommend Chiswick Auctions without reservation.

Banned from bidding because I queried dubious authenticity!

I frequently bid on various auctions online as I specifically collect Princess Diana Hand Signed items. I purchased, what appeared to be, a very attractive Signed piece, with Diana's signature on the mount. However, upon receipt, I was horrified to see that the photograph itself looked extremely dubious. It had an almost glittery effect on it, which, when queried, was put down to "silvering". I was not convinced. It appeared to me as if it had been produced from a printer, and had certainly not emanated from Kensington Palace.

I asked further questions about the provenance and after numerous emails, I had to make it clear that I felt it was a fake. Albeit an extremely good one, and intended to pursue a Chargeback.

I received an extremely rude email from the Director (I had told Chiswick Auctions that I am a journalist and would pursue media attention) banning me from bidding on their auctions. Something that slightly amused me.

I was interested to see today that a Signed Diana photograph has sold for half the Auctioneers' estimate! What a surprise. The piece looked authentic, but by excluding bidders like myself, Chiswick Auctions have done the seller a disservice, and lost commission themselves.

Undoubtedly, the least professional auction house I have dealt with. Avoid!

Reply from Chiswick Auctions

We were surprised and disappointed to read this review, particularly as it relates to a transaction from over six months ago which, to our understanding, had been fully resolved to the client’s satisfaction.

The signed Princess Diana piece in question was carefully authenticated by both our in-house specialist and two independent experts. We provided this documentation to yourself at the time, in response to concerns.

The photographic print did show signs of “silvering”, which is a well-documented and natural characteristic of black and white photographic paper as it ages. Silvering can occur due to various environmental factors, such as humidity within a frame or housing; it can also be a result of mount adhesives used on photograph versos. Additionally, photographs are by definition multiples; in the trade, a print made within five years of its negative is typically classified as ‘vintage’; however there can be many multiples made from a given negative, for as many years as the negative remains in good condition. The photograph we offered at auction was carefully inspected and it was printed on photographic paper, definitely not the product of a modern inkjet printer.

Although we were and still are confident in both the authenticity and description of the piece, we issued a full refund as a gesture of goodwill. This is not something we typically offer, but we hoped it would bring the matter to a satisfactory close.

We were disappointed by subsequent threats of negative media coverage, which we felt left us with no option but to prevent you from bidding in future auctions, a decision we don’t take lightly.

We always strive to act professionally and with integrity. While we appreciate all feedback, we do feel this review does not fairly reflect the care and transparency with which we handled this matter.

I would like to thank the Team from Chiswick Auctions for an outstanding experience selling most of my ceramic collection. A special thank you to Jo, who was exceptionally knowledgeable, highly experienced, and showed genuine passion for her work from the very beginning. Her expertise and dedication made the entire process smooth and reassuring. She took great care in presenting my pieces and kept me well informed throughout. I’m truly grateful for her support and the professionalism of the entire team. Highly recommended!

For my first experience of selling pieces it was a really interesting, profitable and friendly experience!!

I have never used action house before but Joanna Lloyd made the whole experience very enjoyable and very profitable!!! She did her research on each piece she took and even looked into pieces which neither of us were quite sure if there was any value attached to them. She gave me lots more information on the pieces I’d given her which was really interesting and she also introduced me to other experts who also gave me great info on other pieces that we had.
Joanna and the many others that she introduced me to were all extremely helpful, informative and realistic about what I could expect from the pieces.
I will be back !!! Recommending Chiswick to others for both buying and selling. Some really interesting pieces in the sales!! Go take a look!!!

One of the nicest auctions houses in London…

Chiswick Auctions are extremely responsive with estimates on items. All departments contacted have been excellent and team members diligent and helpful in all enquiries. It is also lovely to be invited to private viewings which adds to the excellent customer service and experience.

When delivering items for consignment we have found the process easy, the reception on arrival friendly and a very positive experience that instils trust that items will be cared for and in safe hands.

It is without hesitation that they are one of nicest auctions houses in West London. With some excellent auctions results.

Highly recommended.

Very patient and helpful, really took care

Very helpful talking me through submitting items for auction. One member of staff, Chloe McKay, visited me to take photographs so Jo Lloyd, the specialist, could let me know estimates before I committed to the auction and delivered the lots. The photographs in the sale catalogue were excellent. Jo also checked descriptions with me to make sure I was happy with them, adding additional details was easily done. The whole experience was great. I have only taken a star because I have to wait 28 days to get the invoice and final figure.

Fabulous Customer Service!

I was the winner of a recent auction at Chiswick for an oil painting by American artist Harold Weston. It was the first time I ever participated in an online auction like this and I was very apprehensive at first - especially given the expected difficulty and expense to get the item back to me in New York from the UK. I mainly came here to say that Tracy Keane of Cheseick, their Head of Client Services, went to such extremes to help me it was incredible. Her assistance to me went went way beyond anything I have ever experienced in customer service from any company for any product. My painting arrived save and sound in New York yesterday, and at an expense way less than it could have been. I owe it entirely to Tracy.
