My daughter and I needed to take out a funeral plan for my sister who is a Care Home with dementia. Everything was explained in detail, including the need to contact the cemetery for her to be buried with our Mother and father.
As a Co-op member the lady in question gave a generous discount towards the cost.
Found Chris very informative taking the trouble to explain everything required and what options are available. Also what choices may be asked and what can be discussed in the future.
This was an easy plan to set up
I have used this service before for another family member. It worked very well.
as members of CO OP we benefit financially in difficult times financially.
It was a nice simple process, you know what you're getting and y
All easy to understand, but I would have liked a copy for both my sons. I chose the Gold Plan.
Claire listened to what we wanted and explained our plan in great detail. It was easy to arrange.
Choice and ease of purchase - simplified process.
We bought funeral plans for both myself and my husband at the Chester le Street funeral parlour. Donna took care of both and she was excellent. We chattered briefly before starting which put everyone at ease for the task ahead as it’s not easy booking something like this. Donna explained how things would go and it was all done in no time. We also got £100 off the plan making it £1600. We have not yet received all the paperwork but am advised it’s on its way.
the lady was very clear on all aspects and any question we asked
Absolutely excellent.Staff were great . They made things so easy when I was so upset about losing my husband. We have always used the co-op funeral service. They are just the best .Stirchley co-op funeral services are excellent .

I have lost 4 family members and planning their funeral didn’t give us time to grieve so I wanted to make sure that my children and grandchildren don’t go through this. My husband and me have planned with the co-op, It was so easy to do online and if I called to question anything I got to speak to a person and not have to wait in queue, would highly recommend

On New Year’s Day 2026 we met Clair for the first time at the
Co-Op Washington Funeral Care.
Immediately felt her warmth put us at ease straight away. No planning of a funeral is without pain ours had a tragedy & sadness attached. We had already made the discussions before speaking to Clair everything was planned just date & paperwork.
We communicated with Clair & Sonja from then onwards. Both committed understanding & caring.
On the 14th January my Mother-in-Law Cremation took place. From start to finish all the Staff were wonderful helpful & caring.
The Celibate Hilary was excellent the service was so personal to my mother-in law & our family it was like she knew us.
Clair’s care and kindness was overwhelming.
We met with Clair again to arrange the burial. Once again everything was sorted with upmost care & attention to detail.
The date for burial was 31st of March we asked Clair to attend where she read out a beautiful poem & played a chosen song. It was a quiet peaceful send off only immediate family members attend exactly how Lily would have wanted.
It meant so much for Clair to be stood there with us on the final good-bye from start to finish an amazing supportive woman. I have said when my time comes Clair please send me on my way.
My Dad in 2003 then my Mum 2010 were also Co-op Funeral Care Washington I can honestly say if you want the perfect send off for a loved one 100% Washington.
Many thanks to everyone involved.

Lack of response from Man Director.
I lost my mother last summer and Coop organised her funeral which was faultless. All paid for in full before the service took place in August. I received a letter from their head office on 6the November 2025 demanding payment and accusing me of owing them money. I became very distressed whilst I was still grieving for my lovely mother. I called them in Manchester, however, no one called me back. On 12th January 2026 I wrote to Managing Executive Director, sent recorded delivery. No response. I wrote again to the Managing Director on 5th March 2026, again recorded delivery. To date I have not had any response from Coop and more disappointing that their chief executive has ignored my letters. I suspect that I am not the only person to have received this treatment. The lack of response has added considerably to my distress and compounded my grief. Losing a loved one is already difficult without being treated with ignorance by Coop Funeral Care.
My sister passed away in Dec, it was sudden unexpected. The staff were polite and patient. They arranged a wonderful funeral for my sister in City of London. Had livestream and we were able to walk in front of the hurse. The Hoe street branch are so much appriciated and all involved with the service.

Mum died in February and had a funeral plan with the Co-op. The funeral plan was raised when she lived in Darlington but she died in Lincoln. She wanted to be cremated in Darlington. I rang the number on the funeral plan documentation but was told that I had to ring the local major branch (Lincoln). I did so and was told that because she needed to be moved to Darlington, I had to ring Darlington to start the arrangements. I phoned Darlington who said that because it was an inter-county move I had to call my local major branch (Lincoln) to start the process. Called Lincoln again but was told that they were Co-op Lincolnshire, not Co-op National, so I had to call Grantham. I called Grantham who began the process. That was then my 5th call at a time when I wanted things done via 1 call. I live just outside Lincoln, but could not go to my village branch (200 yards away) or my local big branch 2 miles away (Lincoln) as they are Co-op Lincolnshire. Grantham is 26 miles away and I had to go there twice to make arrangements. To be fair, Grantham were very good and things ran smoothly once I was dealing with Grantham. However, Co-op is the symbol on the funeral plan, so I don't care it it is Co-op Regional, National or inter-Galactic, one call to the number on the funeral plan documentation should have been enough to sort everything out. Co-op emailed me afterwards for feedback which I submitted, and despite that feedback being very negative I haven't heard anything from them since
