Hire Humans!
This is a case study example of what happens when you don't use humans. On 9/4, I ordered my prescription and sent the authorization to my provider. One week later, I checked the status and they had no record of my request. Two weeks later, I sent the completed authorization to a chatbot. The chatbot filled my order after I paid. Today, I received an email issuing me a refund; they were unable to get through to my provider!?!

I have been a long time user of cost plus drugs. They have saved me a lot of money over the years. But I have found in the recent past that the customer service and the receipt of doctors prescriptions has severely been impacted by a lack of customer interface. I tried four times to contact cost plus. - I could not get an answer and there is no one to talk to. I got to a point where I needed to get medicines that had been ordered. I could talk to no one and I got no answers. I’m very disappointed at the responsiveness. The real problem is the headquarters telephone number for cost plus in Dallas actually puts you in a communications loop with no end.. I had to get my medicine elsewhere. Too bad.

My actual prescription from doctor to costplusdrugs pharmacy took longer than normal, but they have very affordable prices and very good customer service I've talked to over the phone! Also very fast shipping, it's crazy! Thank you Mark Cuban for making it happen!!!
Jury's still out
Kroger discontinued their Rx program, so after comparing costs, I switched to Cost Plus, even though I've had terrible experiences in the past with other mail order Rx. My drug is a very common generic.
I set up an account and designated it as my preferred pharmacy in MyChart (hospital system portal) before going to see my Dr. I had no issues with Cost Plus receiving my prescription. Dr ordered it on a Monday, it was sitting in my cart when I got home, I placed my order, and it shipped out the next day.
I didn't receive it until the following Tuesday due to delays with USPS. I was one day away from being completely out and getting pretty nervous, but it all worked out.
If you need your meds urgently, if you're on an uncommon med, if your meds need to be temp controlled, or you're not tech literate I'm not sure I would use Cost Plus. If you do use them, I would HIGHLY recommend to plan WAAAAY ahead to account for any mishaps and still get your meds on time.
But for me and my situation, it was ok (after reading the other reviews, I may have just gotten lucky). We'll see how it goes with the refills.
TERRIBLE SERVICE, VERY UNRESPONSIVE.
Been trying to order a prescription from them for over a month. My dic sent them my scrip as I've seen the fax report, and nothing has happened. Messaged them a couple times and got no response. So I called them a couple days ago and was told they'd be getting back to me within 24 hours. They've not done so. Unless you have no other option, avoid this company like the plague!

Mark Cuban needs to fix the many issues this company has. Almost impossible to speak with a live person so you have to send an email that can take days for a response going back and forth. Then they mail the RX and the tracking number CANNOT be listed and it comes off as google error. RX was sent in 7-8-25 and today 7-19-25 I still have no RX. Granted the price is right but if you need faster this is NOT an option.
No customer service
Only runs on an automated system. My doctor requires a phone number and address, but contacting them did not yield these results. Instead they directed me towards a fact that did not contain the information requested. How hard is it to let someone know your mailing address and phone number? Stupid

I have been ordering medications which were not covered by medical insurance from a Canadian Pharmacy for the last 6 years for cost savings. Last week, during an internet search, I found Cost Plus Drugs Company and did some back ground research. Some negative but not recent reviews.
I asked my doctor to forward my prescription to costplusdrugs.com (the receptionist informed me that they have sent several prescriptions to this company which gave me some reassurance). An Email notifying me that my medication prescription was received 20 minutes after my Physician sent it in on Monday. My account was set up prior to having any prescriptions. I set up payment and reviewed my final cost with shipping. The cost was 75% less than the Canadian Pharmacy. I approved the order and I received the medication the same week. INCREDIBLE! My Canadian prescription always took over three weeks.
I highly recommend using this mail order pharmacy with confidence.

Less than half of what I was paying before
Cons: They don’t carry all of my prescriptions. Kind of a bummer since I that means I have to get some sent to a different pharmacy.
Pros: The ones they do carry come in at less than half of what I was paying with my insurance at a regular pharmacy, including the cost of shipping, AND I just noticed my order today is a few dollars **cheaper** than it was when I started ordering the same meds a few years ago. 👏👏
Great Deal, easy experience
Every prescription I've had has been substantially lower on this platform (cash price as my insurance isn't taken on Cost Plus) than it is through CVS with my insurance benefits. They don't carry every medication, but everything that I'm prescribed that they do carry I've had my doctors transfer here. I had one medication that was a $5 difference, but everything else was significantly lower. Medicines that would cost me $30 each after copays, I ended up paying $30 in total for three medications! Prices and the deal do vary of course, but it's easy to check the cash price and if it's available on the site before your doctor sends over the script. Just make sure to select the proper quantity and dose or you're not going to get an accurate price preview which is probably the issue the people who left bad reviews experienced.
Once my doctor's sent the script, I got it within 2 weeks all three times and twice it was within a week.

Awlful customer service!! You can't even speak to someone!! I'm trying to change my password and it's not working!!! I didn't want to use them in the first place but I can't get the drug I need anyother way!!!
The Best !
My initial prescription was botched by my Dr.'s staff. After explaining what went wrong to his nurse, the script went through and I received my meds in about 10 days. I was emailed a refill reminder and again, seamless.
A prescription that Humana would not cover and was $70 at Costco, $110 at Osco, north of those prices everywhere else was $25.00.
Needless to say (but I will anyway) I am ecstatic ! I only wish they had a broader selection so I could move more of my scripts to CostPlus Pharmacy

My personal experience with Cost Plus Drugs was/is fantastic! I signed up, completed the prescription form, and emailed it to my doctor. My doctor sent the prescription to Cost Plus Drugs the same day. (Yeah, my dr’s office rocks.)
My prescription used to cost me $30 for a 3-month supply WITH insurance. With Cost Plus Drugs, I pay $15 for a 3-month supply with NO insurance ($10 for meds, $5 shipping). I ordered on February 5th, and it shipped on February 8th. Shipping took about a week, but I ordered early, knowing it would be mailed. *I don’t check my mailbox every day. It could have taken less time.
I received emails for every step of the process. The website is easy to navigate. This is my first time having prescriptions mailed. I’ve been extremely happy with the service.

Not Worth the Hassle
My first order with Cost Plus Drugs took a week or more to get placed because the company has two addresses (Ohio and California) and the two seem to be unrelated or do not communicate with each other. This makes it difficult for the prescribing doctor to place the order. After using all of my authorized refills, I asked my doctor to order more refills. She placed the order 3 times, using fax and escribe. Cost Plus says they still do not have a prescription for me.
The savings from Cost Plus (less than $20 per year) is not worth the hours of effort and frustration attempting to place an order. I'm switching to a company with customer service.
