Good service, good pricing. However, last year we had our newly installed boiler and water tank serviced. The technician missed the fact that the water tank’s back glow pipe wasn’t the correct size. I... See more

HOT/COLD OUTDOOR TAPS

I had two outdoor taps fitted and I was more than happy with the service. I had a leak in the fitting and the engineer returned and rectified this free of charge without any hassle. Professional outfit and would recommend.

A complex problem handled poorly

I asked D-MAC Services to investigate a problem with rainwater entering my boiler flue, dripping all the way down the boiler and onto the worktops. This only happens with heavy rain and strong wind blowing it in the general direction of the flue. The wall of the flue is exposed to the elements and there is no way of changing it to another wall.

The engineer who initially visited wasn't sure how to deal with the problem, but contacted a colleague who had experience of similar situations. This was fair enough as it shows the benefits of using a large company which collectively has a wide range of experiences, but I was still not entirely convinced about their confidence in fixing the problem.

The same engineer eventually came to my home to replace the flue, but this was at 5:45pm when the initial appointment was around 1pm. I can understand engineers being a few hours late when juggling several jobs, but I wasn't even aware they worked this late and most of my day was spent waiting. My boiler was given a service at the same time, however this seemed rushed and I waited a week before having to phone up and get a certificate emailed to me.

The initial repair unfortunately did not solve the problem so I phoned to arrange for remedial work. The office staff arranged this no problem and at no extra cost. This time the angle of the flue was changed by the engineer, but only slightly as it was close to a steel beam. There has been no strong winds blowing rain towards my flue since then so I am unsure the problem is fixed. I feel this is unlikely though because there has only been a slight adjustment and the general consensus with people I have spoken to about the problem is that in certain circumstances you cannot fully solve it.

Also during this second visit I was disappointed the engineer left PPE and other waste in my and other people's gardens. This shouldn't be happening any time, never mind during a global health pandemic. He also left the job unfinished when roughly 15 minutes more work was all that was required. In his defence, on both visits he could have done with help as it seemed a two man job. Ironically, when he did come back to finish the job there was a colleague with him, however this final task only required one person.

Overall, I appreciate it is a complex issue I have with my boiler which may be impossible to fully resolve. However, I would appreciate if the company said either that they did not know how to fix the problem or that what they proposed may not help. However they tended to speak in absolutes until after the work was complete, then began conveying their doubts. Of course I chose to trust them and therefore take a share of responsibility, but I feel they were not entirely honest during the whole process (which also dragged on far too long). I do not grudge the company the money I have gave them considering the amount of work done and the option I have of additional remedial work at no extra cost, however I was disappointed with the overall level of service and quality of work, therefore I have my doubts about whether they can help further if the problem continues to arise. Unfortunately I would not recommend this company to anyone else.

Make sure you specify your instructions

Turned up on time and carried out the work. Cleaned up afterwards but left a radiator outside my house which I had to call to arrange collection. The outside taps are slightly out of alignment and they also left the old cold tap. I didn't ask for this to be removed but assumed they would simply replace the cold tap and add a hot tap. I now have 3 outside taps.
