At first...

At first, it was difficult to understand how it worked—especially the part about managing contacts—and I still don’t know where the backup files are stored. But it’s the best tool I’ve ever used for managing email accounts.

Hi Marilina, thank you for your review.
For Windows, the default location for backup files is an "eM Client" folder in your Documents.
You can verify the location in Settings>General>Backup, and you also have the option to change it there. Then new backups will be stored in the folder specified by you.

If you need any more help, please feel free to contact us at support.emclient.com – we're here to assist you with any questions you might have.

eM Client is very efficient and stable

eM Client is an efficient, stable solution, and I really appreciate being able to manage a large number of IMAP accounts, with proper synchronisation with online services (Google Calendar, CalDav, CardDav, Google Contacts, Slack, etc.). I haven’t encountered any particular issues, and I don’t regret my purchase.

However, I do regret that eM Client doesn’t have a proper HTML text editor for emails (for example, emojis are poorly implemented, and you can’t use keyboard shortcuts) and that the widgets have been discontinued.

Hi Damien, thank you for your review.
We're glad to hear you like the app.

A full HTML editor has already been requested on our Sleekplan, so make sure to add your vote: https://emclient.sleekplan.app/feedback/187977.
This helps our developers prioritize improvements for future updates.

Regarding emoticons and widgets, please reach out to us via support.emclient.com and include more details - what issue did you experience with emoticons? Widgets should still be available - what makes you believe they were discontinued? We'd be happy to provide further advice. Thank you!

It's a good email client, the only problem seems to be that I can't start google meet meeting from the client, I have to go into my gmail and start them there. Otherwise no problems.

I don’t like two things about the mobile version. When I open a file from an email and want to send just that file, without forwarding the entire email, and I choose the option to send via em Client, nothing happens - the email simply doesn’t open. When I used another application, this wasn’t an issue.

The other problem is the search function. It never finds what I’m looking for, or even if it does, it only shows results from the last 30 days. I have thousands of emails going back years, and I can’t search through them at all.

I’m using the free version, if that could be the reason.

Hi, thank you for your review.

If you're having issues forwarding files via eM Client, please reach out to our mobile app support team at mobile@emclient.com and let them know more details about the issue, exact steps, your OS version and app version. They'll be happy to troubleshoot and assist you.

The search issues in the mobile app may be caused by the server-side search not working as it should. Please try turning off "Use server search if available" in the Search bar under Options. Also, make sure your sync time period or download scope match the messages and the parts you want to search in. In Settings > your account > Services, tap IMAP/Exchange, then enable "Download messages for offline use and to search in message bodies." Next, go to "Customize download options" and set it to "Full messages with/without attachments." Finally, adjust the Message sync time period in the same section to match the scope of messages you want to search in.

Former Outlook user

Having used Outlook for many years I was having real problems plus I had no interest in paying a fortune for MS365. So I very nervously decided to change. The reviews for eM Client were very good so I gave it a go about a year ago. To date it has been flawless, no problems and does all the basic things I need it for perfectly.

Lacks lots of useful features to get 5 stars

Lacks lots of useful features. Like does not automatically detect the language for a spell check. Every time you have to do 3 steps to select the language manually. The "attach" button gives you a drop out list, where, however, you see no recently opened documents. When you want to move a message to a folder, a drop out menue does not show recently used folders for storage. So, you have to go all the way and select manually. What i liked about the app, is that all senders have clear icons, which Oultook does not do. Connection and synchronisation with calendars works very well.

Hi Oleg, thank you for your review.

The option to add recent files when adding attachments has already been requested on our Sleekplan, so make sure to add your vote here: https://emclient.sleekplan.app/feedback/147916. This helps our developers prioritize improvements for future updates.
The automatic language detection for the Spell checker is also being considered, you can add your vote or follow the idea here: https://emclient.sleekplan.app/feedback/133419/

For moving messages, we currently have Quick Move (using the "M" keyboard shortcut), which will have the last used folder pre-filled and Move to folder (right-click>Move to folder), which will keep the last 10 folders that you moved a message to - this folder history is not mixed with the Quick Move nor drag and drop move.

If you need further assistance, please contact us via info@emclient.com. Thank you!

How do I get my old Apple email to stop stealing emails?

20 April 2026

Reply from eM Client

Hi Stuart, thank you for your review.

It sounds like you still have one of your accounts set up in the Apple Mail app, possibly as a POP account. This means your emails are downloaded to the app and removed from your email provider's server. To avoid losing any emails, change the setting in Apple mail to keep your messages on the server and then export them so they can be imported into eM Client.

Go to the Mail app  on your Mac.
Open Mail > Preferences (or Settings)
Click Accounts uncheck the option to "Remove copy from server after retrieving message" for the affected account/accounts.
Close the window to save this change

Then select one or more mailboxes, and choose Mailbox > Export Mailbox.
Choose a folder or create a new folder, then click Choose.

Then go to the eM Client app and go to File>Import>Files>Mailboxes (.mbox). Select the .mbox file you previously created in the Mail app.

Only when all of your emails are safely imported in the eM Client app, go to your Mail app settings and remove the account from there.

If you're unsure about the process, please don't hesitate to reach out to us via support.emclient.com and we'll be happy to assist you.

It's not Outlook :(

Outlook finally crashed too many times so I moved to EClient.

I REALLY wanted to love it, but there are few things I can't stand, that to me, could easily be fixed:

#1: The order of reading a string of emails is backwards - the NEW string is at the bottom of the sting, making it hard to figure out sometimes, who had the last word (they have been aware of this issue for a long time, but choose not to do anything about it!).

#2: There IS color coding of appts (once you figure out how to do this), but my calendar doesn't always come through with the colors and my calendar will often randomly defaults to all YELLOW appts, which isn't helpful.

#3: Again, something that should not be an issue but is - the spell check SUCKS! Even the most common words get flagged when sending an email and I do mean COMMON, like "which" or "timeshare", etc. I'm just asking for a reasonable spell check and it's definitely not in E-Client (because of this, you have to "accept" about 10-20 "words" every time you hit send on an email - a PITA (oh, did I also mention that it doesn't "learn" the words I do accept...)

Hi Jerolyn, thank you for your review.

1. By default, conversations show the latest messages at the bottom, allowing you to read them in chronological order. If you prefer to see new replies at the top, you can easily change the sort order to "Latest on top" in Settings>Mail>Conversations or via the View>Conversations option in the main menu.

2. When viewing multiple calendars, the color of the calendar may take priority over the tag color. If you would like to display your assigned tag color instead, you can adjust this in Settings under Calendar > General. Just change the "Source of event's color in multi-calendar mode" option to "Tag then calendar." The calendar turning yellow might be a result of viewing multiple calendars, which can prioritize calendar colors even if the additional calendar has no events. This is just our best guess, so please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team with more details for confirmation.

3. The spell checker might be set to a different language, causing false positives. You can change the language in Settings>General>Spell-Checker. We’re also adding multi-language support in the upcoming eM Client 11. To ignore specific words, right-click on them and choose "Add to dictionary" - just "accepting" a change will not save it for future cases, they need to be added to the dictionary. If you want to disable the spell check before sending emails, go to Settings>Mail>Compose and uncheck "Check spelling before sending message". For more details, check our blog post: https://www.emclient.com/blog/improve-your-email-game-with-built-in-spell-check-and-ai-tools-709

I did not choose this programme

I did not choose this programme: when I upgraded my computer to Windows 11, the technician who did the data transfer replaced my Outlook Express with eM Client without first referring to me because he subsequently advised that he thought it was the better of the two and have found systems. I acquiesced to this and have been wholly satisfied with eM Client but I cannot in all honesty say what the advantage is.

Hi James, thank you for your review.
Outlook Express is a very old program (support officially ended 20 years ago) that cannot properly work on Windows 11, so it makes sense that your technician recommended replacing it.
