An excellent and knowledgeable company.

I have made many purchases from Exotic Pets, the first being an aquatic sharp ribbed newt. They gave me excellent advice about habitat, temperature and food etc. Following their advice my newt, and 4 others I purchased, are thriving. I have also bought live food for my tree frogs and decorations for their vivarium. You can phone or email Exotic Pets and they will always offer great, and knowledgeable advice.

Corn snake

Perfect delivery happy with the corn snake that arrived safe an healthy although it wasnt the snake i ordered rated 3 stars due to bad communication and waiting 3 weeks for my order when told it would be before that time but looking to order from you in the future hopeing for a better experience

Thank you for your review.

From speaking to my colleague I understand the corn snake purchased was actually a pre-order animal and when it arrived with us from our breeder we weren't happy with it's feeding routine. Unfortunately pre-orders can take a little longer to arrange as we have to be certain of the health of each animal in our care before we arrange the transportation of them.

Sadly in this case it transpired there were some missed feeds, so we thought it best to offer you an alternative animal rather than delaying the order any longer.

This is a rather an unusual circumstance and we can only apologise and we do also hope you're experience will be better next time.

Great experience- will use again.

Ordered 2 giant millipedes. Company refused to deliver any sooner as potential of overnight temperatures dropping below safe limits for invertebrates. Animals clearly first. Arrived yesterday, with heat pack still slightly warm. Beautiful creatures in good health. Delighted! Great comms from customer service. Happily recommend

Will never buy from here again!

I hate leaving bad reviews but i felt i needed to here! I ordered a new viv, it was never dispatched. When i inquired i got an email back saying it would be dispatched that Wednesday and it never was, when i again sent an email they never replied so i ended up calling them, no answer, calling , no answer and my third time calling them they finally answered. I said i wanted my money back as i needed a new viv asap, the man on the other line couldnt care less about my experience, didn’t apologise or even try to offer an explanation. Im still waiting for my refund.

Thank you for your review.

As this was a special order item and it was purchased over the Christmas/New Year period unfortunately we couldn't obtain stock until the end of the first week of January, this is because our supplier was on festive shutdown. Although we ordered this in to arrive to us at the first opportunity we had, our supplier failed to deliver on the date we expected.

We can only apologise for this delay and the fact we had to cancel and refund the order as we couldn't get it to you on time.

Amazing frozen delivery

Amazing frozen delivery, had issues with other sellers beforehand where small rat orders would be semi-thawed upon arrival, the exotic pets ltd order came really well packaged, with ice packs and everything was well frozen. Will only be buying frozen food delivery here from now on.

Extremely good and fast service.Ordered from them a few times:and snakes always arrived lively and unstressed!!.Fed readily a couple of days after settling in!!very readily..Good contact with the staff,friendly!and knew their buisness..Would willingly order from them again!!! My daughter extremely happy with her beautiful baby corn snake!!!!What more could you ask for..Thanks for great service.!!!!

Ordered 2 x different types of uv bulbs…

Ordered 2 x different types of uv bulbs ,
Paid for next day delivery after waiting 5 days i messaged customer service told them my order number and how apc havent updated tracking and asked if i could have a refund on my delivery fee due to me not receiving next day. Melissa replied and completely ignored my question about a refund and gave me my tracking number to trace it to find out. Even though i sent her my order number and my enquiry was about the tracking not working?? So completely useless juat fobbed me off it seems. Got in touch with the local depot to be told they was smashed in transit and sent back to exotic pets. Chased melissa up who said she would send me another order right away. 2 and a half weeks in my lizards are starting to look ill both without uvs and ive heard nothing or received nothing

Avoid at all costs stick to your local pet shop!!!!!

The perfect place for your exotic pets!!

Where to start?
Website is simple and easy, everything is really detailed with a lot of information and care sheet for your animal.
Delivery was really fast, got my order dispatched on the same day and delivered the next.
Had a problem with a box of Locust that came with just a few units, contacted customer service and received a reply on the same day (Saturday) and they offered me a refund or the money credited to my account to a next purchase.
Really efficient and reliable.
Great experience, will definitely buy again!!

Extremely long delivery wait

My experience of excotic pets uk has unfortunately been a not so great experience. I ordered a reptile cork log which was in stock at time of purchase. At checkout it said my product would arrive within 1-3 days however 8 days later after ordering the status on my order is on awaiting dispatch! I find this extremely disappointing given the price that it is still awaiting dispatch 8 days after ordering. I am highly concerned I may not receive the cork log at all and have payed over £12 for it including delivery. I bought this product based on the glowing reviews yet I am really dissatisfied with the service and never thought I would leave 1 star.

I bought the exotic pets Praying Mantis…

I bought the exotic pets Praying Mantis Starter Kit, along with a fruit-fly culture and some other small bits. Sadly my experience with my purchases as someone new to the hobby of mantis keeping has not been good. The company is currently experiencing an issue with their fruit-fly culture supplier, so when mine arrive they were moldy and mostly dead (only 8 adults left, no maggots etc). The decorations that I received in the starter kit were also lack-luster, as some of the sticks easily developed mold after a few days in a moist environment (mantises live in high humidity!) and there wasn't any leaves like the picture showed, as the kit was 90% moss - I ended up buying some extra bits for decoration from other sources. Finally the spray bottle that is crucial for the care of mantises didn't work at all and was very cheap in design, it barely sprayed any water and after a lot of trying, only got leaked on where the water started coming through the handle. I also ordered some feeding tweezers which when arrive came in damaged packaging and the logo was rubbing off the handle as if it had already been used.

The customer service in response to the fruit-fly situation was ok, they were polite and understanding however I did have to call as they took a long time to reply to emails, I did receive a refund though so they get an extra point for this, but I haven't even bothered with the rest of the issues as it was quite the hassle.

Postage-wise the items took a while to be dispatched but I can't fault this due to the current situation, and was within the 4 days they guarantee.

Outstanding service

Amazing service ... animal welfare is their passion ..... went through a welfare check prior to dispatch to ensure everything was in order. Dispatched and arrived on time by a very attentive courier .... I am over the moon. happy with my geckos, set up and live food ... would highly recommend xx

Live food

I normally visit my local pet shop to buy live foods for my son's leos, but even then, there's usually some dead insects.Very impressed with Exotic Pets, I received live, healthy insects, not a single dead one at all. Had my doubts about how fast the delivery would be (lockdown has slowed the mail), but they arrived very quickly and well wrapped up. It takes a lot for me to be impressed enough to leave a 5 star review, but these guys have definitely earned it.

Extremely poor customer service and bad attitude.

My second complaint is I bought 3 packs of calci worms - I have had previous packs before and had no issues with them. The other morning I woke up to find a trail of them from my bedroom to the stairs. They had escaped out of the tubs because the new tubs they were provided in weren't adequate. The lip of the container had ridges in them instead of being smooth allowing the calci worms to escape. When I messaged on Facebook to complain and ask for them to be replaced it was implied I was a liar. After spending 1k on stuff from their shop I find this highly disrespectful. How much does it cost you to buy the calci worms? I'm pretty sure you can replace 3 packs with no real loss. We were also going to buy another reptile from them in summer which would have been another £600+. That is no longer on the cards and your customer service needs improvement. My partner called the shop and they basically deflected the situation. Didn't offer any solution or advice just that it was our fault.

I've decided to take my business elsewhere and buy from somewhere that appreciates their customers. They clearly can't handle any criticism whatsoever and you can see that from other negative reviews in Chris' responses. And some advice--if you are going to let Chris deal with complaints it might be a good idea to teach him some customer service skills. Even just an apology would have been accepted and a gesture of good will such as a replacement or points added to my account if you didn't want to offer a refund. They also ignored some of my messages and just haven't responded

The bearded dragon was stated to be 5months old. When looking on size charts (which we couldn't accurately measure because he has a missing tail) I was concerned that he was the size of a 3 month old bearded dragon. So we went into the shop and clarified. Chris said that they had purposely been stunting his growth because he'd been through a "traumatic experience" . Basically they haven't been feeding him enough. For a 5 month old bearded dragon he should be eating almost triple what they were feeding him. This makes me question their care practices. If he had been left any longer his growth could have been severely stunted and who knows what other health issues he may have had. Since bringing him home he has finally shed and is working on his second shed. Which is just a sign that he needed more food. He also seems to be getting happier every day. He's not used to being handled at all. I understand they have a lot of reptiles to take care of but some handling should have been done.

The advice given about not reading everything on the internet was general advice, so you did not become confused as a newcomer to the hobby. There are many contradicting articles and many hobbyists become lost before they get started. Therefore, we encouraged you to write down questions and ask us in store when you visited. We are happy to share our experiences with all customers and we believe it makes us all better keepers.

The tank you purchased was 4x2x2’ and a standard 150w bulb would ordinarily provide a basking spot suitable for the bearded dragon you purchased (controlled by a high range dimming thermostat). In most circumstances you do not require additional heating, and this is sufficient. We always ask customers if your household is cold, and advise occasionally you may need ceramic heaters, but it is generally not needed. Often incorrect thermostat probe position is the biggest issue of vivarium’s not reaching temperature or thermometers not being used correctly.

The new  HabiStat kit you purchased did not come with dechlorinator as standard, however yes, you are right it is always good to treat all water with exotic pets to remove the risk of any harmful metals, chlorines and chloramines. Therefore, we recommended ZooMed Reptisafe to you on your returning visit.

Regarding the calcium and vitamin supplements, each manufacturer has their own advice regarding this. When Arcadia Earthpro-A and Earthpro-Mg were first released it was stated that reptiles receive sufficient vitamin D from good quality fluorescent lighting. I shared with you that their position had changed, and they were now recommending the use of a multi-vitamin powder also (containing D3) and explained their website had a supplementation cycle to follow. This was not us misleading you in any way shape or form, it was following the advice of one of the UK’s leading brands and us then passing this latest information onto our customers.

The first question we ask when any customer highlights an animal not eating is “What are the vivarium temperatures?”. We do this because 99% of the time this is the issue, the point we made above about thermostat position will likely have been the cause here. If you told us the temperatures were correct,then we would likely have advised the animal to settle in for a few days,stress of a move could be a possibility, although not normal with bearded dragons. If your temperatures were low during this period, yes it would not eat properly. Unfortunately, this is not something we can monitor from the shop, we can only advise based on information you give us.

At no point did we purposely say we had stunted an animal’s growth, that statement is wholly untrue. The advice given was that the animal had been kept with its siblings while younger (standard practice) and unfortunately it had its tail nipped off by a clutch mate. Once this happens our standard practice is to separate these animals into a vivarium on their own to aid recovery. Chris did explain that this would slow down their growth as the animals take time to recover/heal and they use a lot of their energy, which in turns slows their growth down against healthier siblings. To suggest that we do not feed our animals enough is quite frankly ridiculous and ill informed.

Calci worms in those tubs were ventilated with a ridged lid,this was a different style container to the regular ones we stocked and was due to supply issues leading into the COVID-19 crisis. Nobody suggested you were lying, when we asked you questions it was clear that you had left them on top of a vivarium (directly above the heat lamps) which made the tubs sweat. Naturally,the grubs were too hot and looked for ways to escape. When soil becomes damp and condensation spreads up the wall of any plastic container, the grubs will look for ways out! If this were a problem usually, we would have them all over our shop and obviously we would not stock them. We did not feel it was appropriate to replace the livefood tubs on this occasion.

We appreciate all our customers and will take all constructive feedback on board; you have made a good point about the dechlorinator and we will pass that onto the person that deals with starter kits.

Chris is a valuable, experienced, and essential member of our team, it is disappointing to hear feedback such as this considering the number of hours he spent trying to help you. The advice given has been based on his years of experience in the industry and as a hobbyist, we strongly believe he has only ever tried to help you, as has the rest of the team.

Fantastic shop

Fantastic shop, easy to order online to collect or be delivered. Lovely staff who could not be more helpful if they tried! Always available to give advice and to have a chat. Great variety of stock and livestock. Animals are always kept immaculately, and I always end up coming out with more than I went in for! Wouldn’t shop anywhere else.
