Excellent Mission Opportunity

A great experience to understand how we can come alongside those in need. EM is professional and they have a system that allows both independence and structure in a balance that provides a great mission trip and help for those who need it.

3M SA Trip

I did a 3 month trip to South Africa with EM in 2018 and it was incredibly life changing! Great organization with fantastic staff and amazing ministry partners. I highly recommend doing a trip with them!!

Parts of the program are very good

Parts of the program are very good, some others need a little polishing. My students and I enjoyed being able to mix them up in the their groups each day as to who was working together. The particular site we were on wasn't extremely organized and there were a few frustrations along the way. I'd spoken with other youth leaders prior who had had very good experiences other places, so might have been a rarity. Admin staff prior to the trip was excellent!

Being involved with Experience Mission...

I would recommend Experience Mission to anyone who professes Christ.
Being involved in the IMMERSION program through Experience Mission, I have had the privilege of working within a group of people that sets the bar in many ways in terms of serving, life, and mission's. The quality of this origination is marked by their humble approach to life, the way they serve their staff and community partners, and their commitment to sit, walk, and stand in a biblical worldview. This organization and the staff seeks to make Christ known in a way that dignify's the God given value of His creation: all peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations. It gives young adults a platform to grow in their relationship with God, themselves, others, and the world, while offering them an opportunity to step into a great adventure. When we love others as He loves them, Christ is glorified and His kingdom comes on this earth as it is in Heaven. This is the offer of IMMERSION and Experience Mission. Will you take the step into a great adventure?

I have been thoroughly impressed with…

I have been thoroughly impressed with my involvement with EM. I went on a 3-Month trip with them to Costa Rice, where my whole idea of missions was reworked and my understanding of missions grew much deeper, and all of that has influenced the way I approach life and ministry for the better. Because of my initial involvement, I chose to plan our high school mission trip through EM, since I knew I could trust them and their way of doing missions. Their approach is much more relational-focused than what I have experienced with other organizations.

Experience Mission

I have gone on two missions trips with EM and couldn’t have asked for a better organization to grow through. I went to Africa both times and have grown so much in both my faith and as a person. EM provides the best staff possible to ensure a safe trip but also to ensure that each member has a great experience serving wherever they choose to go. So glad I chose to serve through EM!

Good mission, a lot of growth needed

I am glad I went on my 10-week EM Immersion trip to Costa Rica. I met some amazing people, had experiences I will never forget, had my perspectives challenged, and my mind broadened. However, the trip certainly was not what I thought it was going to be. I felt as though the organization painted a different picture of what the trip would be than what it actually was. Yes, I understand that different cultures operate at different paces. But this felt more like poor organization and false advertising. If you're laying the groundwork in the community and do not yet have an organized ministry there, just be upfront about it. I felt our team was not so much serving the community in a way that was intentional and organized, but rather trying to repair previously damaged relationships and gain the trust of the community, thus laying the groundwork for future mission work. That is an important step, but that is not where my team and I expected to be. In short, I lost some trust in the organization and admittedly became a little jaded (we all did), but it's an experience I wouldn't undo. I appreciate what EM is trying to do, and I want to see them succeed. They're just still pretty young and their youth shows. I wouldn't discourage anyone from doing an Immersion trip - but just ask a lot of questions.

My time serving on an IMMERSIAN team…

My time serving on an IMMERSIAN team was the most transformational experience of my life. Taking time to step away from the pace of life in the U.S. and learning that other cultures have a lot to offer, some of which cannot be put into words, changed me for the better. I encourage anyone and who is looking to serve the kingdom, or even just looking for an intercultural experience to do so through EM. You will never be the same. And you’ll never regret it.

Doing Missions Well

I have worked with EM in several different capacities and they truly have a heart for relationship and sharing the love of Jesus. I love the approach they take in missions- restoring and maintaining dignity for those we work with, keeping humility, and ultimately loving God and showing that through service and the building of relationships.

Experience Mission is a one of a kind organization!

Experience Mission is a program that I recommend to anyone and everyone! I had one of my most life-changing experiences on their 3-Month Costa Rica Immersion missions trip. If you are considering partnering with this program or joining one of their teams, you should definitely do it! The heart of their organization goes absolutely unmatched.

The budgeting was sketchy and leadership untrustworthy

The budgeting was sketchy and unorganized. My team leaders were not leaders at all. In the 3 months I was gone I saw them once a week if that. We were supposed to have one on one meetings with them every week on top of debriefs every Monday and weekly community projects together as well. That wasn’t the case at all. I felt isolated from my team and not listened to or even prioritized by leadership. This may not be the case for every team that goes with EM abroad. It just happened to be my experience with my specific team leaders. The country and the people were amazing but I would not partner with EM again or refer them to a friend.

I went on a 3 month Immersion program…

I went on a 3 month Immersion program through Experience Mission to the Middle East a few years ago. This program provided the perfect balance of guidance and independence, knowledge and exploration, fun and seriousness. I recommend Experience Mission for anyone looking for a life changing, Christ-centered, immersive experience!

Is it fair to review Experience Mission?

I had an incredible experience with the staff and the trip with Experience Mission; however, that is extremely subjective because I think going on a mission trip was in line with God’s plan for me. It’s a great organization and such wonderful experiences. It really has to be something you’re doing for Christ and with Him or it may otherwise not be so enjoyable. As an organization, and for what they’re doing, 5/5 stars and I will always always support them. But don’t let good reviews be a decision maker if you’re looking at missions! Really seek God’s plan, and if it’s not missions I strongly suggesting helping fund what He is doing through Experience Mission.

I love this organization

I love this organization. They get back to you super quick, answer every question, and are super personable. Experience Mission is passionate about building relationships, and they do so excellently. My life has been changed from the mission trip I took with them. They are intentional about loving like Jesus does, and they partner with amazing communities to help accomplish that mission. They helped ease all my worries and fears about leaving the country for the first time. I would 10/10 recommend.

Maybe Some Things You Should Change

I was apart of your Experience Mission Costa Rica Immersion program in the summer of 2018. Something I thought was interesting was during training, we were told not to bring gifts or give money to the locals. When I was there, there would be one week short-term teams that would come in and give gifts as prizes and things like that. In my opinion, this is wrong. Even though these teams were not mine, I saw them doing the opposite of what we had learned. I know that it is up to the immersion intern to deal with things of that nature, but it was never seen as a problem.

Despite that, I enjoyed the experience of living with a host family and being able to learn more of their language and more about their culture.

Thanks for you review, Abigail, and you're totally on the right track! We tell all of our short and longer-term volunteers not to bring things to give away in our international communities, but unfortunately, some still do, complicating relationships we've built over many years with the community. We've made this a special point of emphasis over the last year or so, and most volunteers now understand the negative implications of handing things out for free instead of building authentic relationships. We hope your time in Costa Rica had a positive impact on the way you view God and people as you live and serve others back home!
