Helpful and reasonably priced.

Been with Footman James for a few years. I own a number of classic bikes, and often have to amend my policy. There are always real people at the end of the phone (who are inevitably helpful) and the admin fees are reasonable. An increase in policy price this year, but everything’s increasing. My only gripe is the long periods on hold trying to get through on the phone.

New customer

New customer. Spoke with Joseph and Jade before taking out a policy. Excellent service. Both very helpful, polite and not pushy! Premium was nearly £1000 cheaper than competitor! Very happy!

Waste Of Time

Literally a waste of time. Ive had my classic car insured with them for several years. However i needed to add a named driver to the policy. Ive phoned them 5 times and they just leave you hanging on. I also requested a call back, but they didnt. I dont have time to waste like this so i will be changing to another company

It is not Footmanjames, It is Ageas you have been warned!

Word of warning do not be like me and get promises that do not exist. Insured my classic car with this company promised expert, knowledgeable, understanding team for the classic car and owner. Absolute hogwash, lies. Check your policy you are probably being farmed out to Ageas, take it from me you really do not want to go there. They saddled me with a team leader engineer from Ageas that would be more efficient stacking supermarket shelves than he was a classic car expert. He would not know the meaning of the term. He was very good at instigating and manipulating though. Ageas love these guys; it gets them record profits.
Not doing footmanjames any favours though.
I SPECIFICALLY CHOSE this glossy website company and the promises they made. It was an absolute con.
Should change the name to CONMANJAMES would be more appropriate and truthful.
You know the barn finds that are worth a fortune. Not in the hands of these con merchants. Scrap price only is more like it. If you have a precious vehicle, run before it is too late. Ageas removed my vehicle where it was hidden away, they then sent strange man to MY HOME! no previous knowledge, no appointment, totally humiliating and privacy breeched. There was NO VOID,I had to wait 9 days for a second offer when the entire time Ageas in house engineer Mark was plotting and maliciously bullying the situation even though he openly admitted he had no idea how to VALUE A CLASSIC CAR. All he had was an outdated car and classic guide. This man is a run of the mill in house engineer who manipulated a vicious vendetta against me. He used a personal injury agent that had NOTHING TO DO WITH ME to ENGAGE HIMSELF. The stranger he sent to my home was USED just so he could end up in control of my E30 325i convertible, refurbed, superb engine, newly resprayed with tons of bills and history lost and stolen by Ageas. Totally false engineer statement ensued compliments of Mark and his malicious, vindictive, bullying, overbearing actions. CONMANJAMES did not give a damn about the abuse I received. Now, CONMANJAMES believe ignorance is bliss. CHECK without DELAY if you have a treasured classic BE VERY AWARE. This company LIES about what you are getting. MY MENTAL HEALTH HAS BEEN SHOT thanks to this GLOSSY WEBSITE COMPANY. As for AGEAS their actions were nothing short of ILLEGAL. I am in bits. I Have just received the best advice EVER. I have 6 YEARS to BRING A CASE AGAINST ALL ILLEGAL ACTIONS CARRIED OUT BY CONMANJAMES AND Mark and Bridies disgraceful, malicious, vindictive, bullying abuse.

Sub optimal premium discussion

Been with FJ for years and years as has my wife who also has another bike policy. Others premiums actually reduced this year yet mine went up by a similar percentage. On discussion of this, the attitude was very much take it or leave it.

Some questions during the renewal process were also asked multiple times as if they didn't fully accept the reply first time around which I found slightly concerning given my direct non-nonsense, clear approach which I use with ALL online business with ALL insurers.

A premium compromise was (finally) reached by reducing the joint annual mileage allowed but their attitude this time left a bit to be desired.

This interaction wasn't awful or unpleasant but it is not what has been experienced with FJ in the past. I am not looking to move this business this time but I will now be 'looking around' in future for a comparison of premium and cover.

Finally, as long as you work within the requirements of GDPR, I would recommend recording ALL calls to FJ and other insurers.

Overpriced.

I have had footmanjames insurance on and off since 2009 for my classic vehicle.

However, in recent years my premium has more than doubled, with no effort to even match competitor prices (May I add competitors offer more services also).

The uplift in price has been more noticeable since they went more mainstream, moving location from waterfall lane to castlegate.

The level of knowledge, and customer service has severely dropped since the move, in fact. It’s a shame, but I’m unable to justify paying £300 more for a service that others offer.

Their attitude is very much ‘this is the best we can offer, we can’t price match, or discuss loyalty discounts’.

Shame, but honest review nonetheless.

Do NOT trust footman James with your classic car. I used their approved accident repair centre halo and have received my 1968 bus back in an unroadworthy condition with wiring for my indicators left dangling, no bulb fitted and no bulb holder to fit one too as they used the original that was damaged when I hit a deer!
As a result of the dangling wires I have a blown flasher relay and blown fuses, an earth was taped to the back of the front panel and the work is generally just shoddy.

I was shocked ,disappointed and disgusted with the price hike of over £60 on my classic car insurance when I advised that I had a no fault insurance claim with my daily car which had been hit in the rear and I was not to blame. The other driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Any opportunity to increase my premium!

Seem good but premiums going up !

I've used them on and off for years.Always polite and helpful but I've never had to make a claim so can't comment on that. A multi-bike classic policy was about £70 all-in just about 2/3 years ago (£25 extra fee per bike if you add after policy issued....some firms charge £50---rip-off !). But now my renewal is £156....I can get same on compare-site for £84.....so shop around !

What happened to the prices

Recently had a quote from them having previously had two Mk1 mx5s under the same policy at £130 three years ago. Now I only have one Mk1 and they wanted to charge me more than what it costs to insure my daily?! Rubbish!

Footman James

Having had policies before and them being competitive. But found they had charged quite a hefty premium given another insurer responded a day later but with double the mileage allowance and a lower premium. Footman James can't/won't match the lower premium. Though only a day they want to charge a fair few fees for cancelling within the 14 day period. Used to be good but seem to think customers can be levied a variety of fees if they want to change or ask for comparable cover/cost to other insurers.

Do not use this company for classic car…

Do not use this company for classic car insurance. My Morris Minor went on fire and luckily I had a fire extinguisher close by to put it out before serious damage was caused. When I contacted them to advise of the incident I was informed to clean up the foam as it would corrode the inside of the engine bay. The service from this company has been appalling to say the least but the worst was yet to come. They have advised me that my claim has not been accepted as there is no fire damage. Needless to say I will be fighting this all the way!

Pretty useless service I’m afraid

Pretty useless service I’m afraid. Firstly after a whole year of lockdown they put the renewal price up by more than the cost of living. Never answer their phones and when they finally did the lady on the other end was bored and put the phone down on me. Probably ay happy in the knowledge that I wouldn’t get through to them again. Took my business elsewhere now.
