We recently attempted to onboard with GoCardless as a legitimate UK business with a strong social mission and were abruptly informed without context that our account was being closed. No prior warning. No rationale. No opportunity to rectify anything. Just a cold, automated email at 3am with zero explanation.
Since then, we've tried every channel to engage—emails to multiple teams, phone support, even escalation. Not a single response. No courtesy. No engagement. No clarification. Just silence.
We are not disputing any regulatory obligations. We are highlighting your failure to communicate transparently, engage professionally, or treat customers with basic respect.
This isn’t just unprofessional—it’s plain rude. And it's deeply damaging to trust. Why would anyone think it’s acceptable to conduct business this way?
We’re left with an unresolved issue, reputational risk, and zero clarity. If this is how you treat prospective clients, it raises serious concerns about how you'd handle actual clients and their customers.

Customer service via email is strong and inviting. Systems are well-versed with stringent security measures. Aftercare service is thorough and reliable.
Our service offers strict payment terms, allowing GoCardless to be an option selected by customers with our invoices. After updating and executing the processes, I found the outcome to be somewhat satisfactory in the end.

What a load of crap after a few weeks of getting signed up and everything sorted. We are told that it does not integrate with Quick Books in our area, the main reason we signed up. No explanation just tough it does not work with Quick Books in your country here is a list of other accounting packages that work in your area. No thanks Good luck Go Cardless and thanks for the false advertisements. Oh and it takes 12- 24 hours for a response to an email. So we probably dodge a bullet really.

Like others have mentioned, our account was deactivated. They closed our account without clear reasons or next steps to open our account again. "For security reasons, we are unable to provide any further detail regarding why your review was unsuccessful."
I would not recommend using this company.

Signed up for 3 days didn’t even get to use it and they shut my account with no explanation. Spoke with customer service and they barely spoke English. That was enough for me. Would be a great useful tool for business if it was run properly but unfortunately it’s not. Beware

Setup my account with verification and authentication. After collecting money from customer before even I received it they said my account under review and failed. What a joke! Now I need to bother my customer to see if they got refunds and I'm left with no money at all.

Signed up for an account, everything seemed to be going well. Actually, some cool payment set ups that I got working in testing.
Then out of nowhere (and lucky before we had done a full go live), automated account deactivation with no reason given to why.
It scares me that I almost trusted this company with taking payments, when they think its acceptable to use a robot to instantly dismantle your whole subscription system!
Seems from the reviews that this isn't an isolated incident. Would avoid at all costs.

Set up go cardless for my business and in less then a day they suspended my services! Silly me, I actually gave them my bank account details. I suspect these guys are not completely legit.

Maybe GoCareless should pivot to a completely new field of business - maybe teaching business students how NOT to run a payments provider.
Their onboarding team don’t know how to onboard, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn’t even know what a DD is. Knowingly telling a customer they can receive payouts when their account is still undergoing a review is a serious cognitive fart.
Their indignant attitude didn’t help them either.
It’s quite hilarious that they made a loss of £35m in the last financial year and it doesn’t surprise me. When their staff demonstrates the poor level of skill, diligence & competence that they do, then their finances can only go one way.
Not a brain cell between any of them, they backed themselves into a corner & had to admit they screwed up. I bet they’re sitting there still wondering why none of them have had pay-rises or that their careers aren’t going anywhere….

I am about to start trading as a sole trader so am setting up my apps, website and payment systems. I thought all was going well then after about a week of setting up my account and before I have even taken any payments they flag my account and shut it down.
I also paid for a few thousand advertising leaflets which included my gocardless QR code which are now completely useless

We transferred over to GoCardless. What initially seemed like a complex process was made very straightforward by the support team, and Majid in particular. He was able to answer all of our questions and solve our concerns quickly and easily. The platform is easy to use and his help in transferring us was brilliant. Highly recommended.

I have been a customer since 2023 with no charge backs. My account is in good standing........ I changed my address and sent documentation to prove it, and they said they are closing my account because i'm out of business.... !?!?!?! You can't call or get anyone to call you. Be careful, have a secondary form of payment from your customers ready to go. If i can't get this sorted, this will look real bad. There has been no changes to my business other than an address change.

Update: did some digging and it February there was an article showing they reduced their workforce by 20%

They are bleeding money. I'm definitely going be working on a backup plan.

This has been the most disappointing experience I've ever had with any company. In hindsight, I regret not reading the reviews here before signing up for an account. It appears that many others have faced similar ongoing issues with this company.
For over ten years, I've processed credit card payments through the same provider without any problems. I decided to use GoCardless as an additional option for direct debit payments.
Their verification team requested my ID and bank statements, which I promptly provided. On 24 April 2025, my account was activated.
I then invited my first customer to switch their payments to GoCardless and test the system. The customer accepted the invitation sent by GoCardless, entered their banking details, and I set up a one-time payment for their current invoice and a subscription for future recurring invoices starting the following month.
Initially, everything appeared to work smoothly. However, on 5 May 2025, I received an unexpected email informing me that my account had been deactivated without prior notice or opportunity to appeal. Despite being previously verified, my account was suddenly deemed unverified and terminated.
To make matters worse, the payments director, who had been in constant contact with me, completely ignored my attempts to resolve the issue. They postponed meetings and stopped responding to my emails. This company is an absolute disaster.

Terrible service and explanations! I set up an account to build the flower subscription side of my floristry business giving customers confidence and reliability setting up their direct debits and also giving myself an automated reliable and flexible system. Perfect I thought! NOPE! 2 months in and my account has been reviewed and cancelled! I have no access to see which payments are pending from who and no explanation was given as to how I seem to have mis complied with the t's and c's. Go cardless will not issue money back to MY clients so I have to sound like an incompetent fool asking them to get their money back from this company by getting in touch with their banks and then somehow hope they trust me enough again to set up a new DD for their goods. I know it would make me think twice if I was a customer so I'm expecting to loose business because of this. It makes small business owners look like fools and damages our reputations. I think this is shockingly bad service and I would not recommend this company to anyone no matter the size of their business. It seems if you don't process enough cash for them you get cancelled....even if you are paying the best part of £100 a month for the privilege of their platform so they get paid either way. Your communication is really patronising, your explanations complete fluff and resolutions for pending payments absolutely despicable.
