Never again!

The person who was handling my case changed three times. The last one I was allocated couldn't speak to me on my phone as it was faulty on the day he rang me. By the next day he had put in my claim without even emailing me that he was going to do so. He had little knowledge of the issues but went ahead anyway. I fully expected to be awarded several thousand pounds but recieved £295. The issues are still unresolved; my bathroom ceiling is still down, my garden is still full of sewage etc., and this ridiculous state of affairs has been going on since September 2025. Not happy.

Gowings made my landlord respond to my longstanding issue

I was approached by a third party regarding a disrepair at my home that my social landlord had neglected and once Gowings had been in contact the landlord quickly swung into action. However, the issue is still not completely resolved, but I do feel that nothing would have happened if Gowings had not acted on my behalf.

Good news

Good news, things are getting better and better.
Growing Solicitors have supported me regarding the house disrepair and my landlord had finally agreed to repair my property.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I've been waiting almost 2 years to write this review, as I wanted to make sure the conveyancing case is finally closed and confirmed.

Please read it all. I usually write only positive reviews, because I understand that sometimes things can go wrong. But this is not the case here.

What can I say about ? AVOID AT ABSOLUTELY ANY COST – ESPECIALLY JONATHAN!!

I didn't have a single positive interaction with them. It started with delays in the buying process, which pushed the whole transaction back by a few weeks. The reason for that was the case being moved between different case handlers who clearly did not communicate with each other. I had to explain everything again and again from the beginning.

They were not able to send a simple email confirming acceptance of the offer to the estate agency, despite plenty of emails, calls and even a few visits to the office. Because of that, the other side could not issue their documents, which directly caused further delays.

Jonathan W. is the most unprofessional and incompetent worker I have ever dealt with. He ignored my issues and concerns, was not able to give me any clear answers or guidance, and failed to handle basic communication properly. He could not write appropriate emails to the other side and also failed to prepare and send me the Land Registry letter.

I contacted them again recently, around 1.5 years after I moved in, only to be told that the original letter had been posted to me in October 2025. As confirmation, I received a letter written and signed by Jonathan confirming the end of the process — but the date on the letter was 23.04.2026, not October 2025.

This means I never received the original documentation from Land Registry, and Gowlings failed to complete this properly.

You're paying them a horrendous amount of money and you're left on your own. It is hard to understand how this company has such good reviews.

I am not here to theorise — I am here for facts. And the facts are simple: Gowlings failed at every single stage of my conveyancing process. Before the transaction, during it (causing delays due to basic actions not being completed), and after completion.

I would probably never have received my Land Registry documentation if I had not chased them again myself.

Don't let these people damp test your home.

We live in rented social housing and last year, Tuesday 29th July 2025, representatives of this firm were knocking on doors to see if tenants had problems with damp. They wanted to do tests to get things improved and possible compensation. We have damp so gave them access. It took about an hour and they said we had a good case. They left leaving numerous small holes in the walls from the device they used for testing. They didn't ask permission for this.
We didn't hear anything back for months. Earlier this year we emailed them twice and they never replied. We then telephoned them for an update. We spoke to a receptionist who said we didn't qualify. We said we were unhappy about their lack of communication and the holes in the walls but she didn't offer for us to speak to anyone else.
We accept that we didn't qualify for the scheme and that is not the issue. We are unhappy that they had no intention of keeping us informed, answering emails or that they left loads of holes in our walls.
Avoid them if they call at your home. They are complete users and totally lacking in courtesy.

DO NOT USE THIS SOLICITOR!

I had a case running for months, lots of evidence of negligences domestically, then they did not take the case to court, they verbally said over the phone "we promise you the money, about £1000" and then did not get the report they needed, refused to get a different surveyor, or back up the case proceeding. A waste of my time and should have used another damages solicitor.

Absolutely Awful Company - AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Absolutely Awful Company! Do not go with them for any repair claims! My claim has been going on for nearly 2 years now. They're communication is awful, they 'send' letters you never receive, never get back to you after emailing or calling. And then to top it off want to accept a ridiculous offer and tell me its up to them! Absolutely disgusting that they cant communicate and keep you informed, you have to accept a ridiculous offer after bringing your claim to them and letting them in your home! AWFUL

good communication and follow ups

its been a long process getting the counical to fix all the problems with my home, but after 9 years I pritty much gave up. but then Gowing law came, they did an inspection, ask for all proof i had of my contact with the council but after 9 years i've lost most of it.
I did check online what they was like before signing anything, in the end i had nothing to lose.

It turned out to be one of the best decisons of my life. yeah it took months too sort out. but in the end we won, and i did not have to lift a finger. the council was given 150 days to complete all repairs. at the end i was being made redunant from my job so a little over 150 later i forgot that the council had not completed the work. Gowing law kept in contact (not like pest calls, only when there was a logical need, or update) they automattcally handle the late repairs problems and kicked the council to move faster.

I really can't fault them, however the council !! I did this not really caring or wanted any money. I just wanted a home that was not falling apart and freezing. I was rewarded money but the council checks if you O any rent and if you do will credit your rent instead... so that is want they did...but i don't O any rent. infact i've been in credit for at least 5 years of about £500.

I did raise this with the gowing law, and i said in the end if i really need it and can ask to releasse some of my rent if i ever need it.
But to my suprice after that a few months later after all repairs are done, i get a cheque from Gowing law. not much and was most likely because the council was late on there repairs. but I am very happy they did what they could so I received some money instead of having to jump through hoop having to talk to the council to release credited funds. (it would be like talking to a brick wall)

If i ever need to sue the council again.. I would happy use Gowing law. very professional and understanding to my personal and mental needs.

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about, but if you read them and inbetween the lines. its clearly angry people who can't think straight and dont understand the process. Yeah it takes a long time to sort out. But YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING, they will fight you war for you.

ps please note the date of my experience was almost a whole year ago and its only just been concluded I know we started contact a month or 2 before august i think (lost my job after that) work started in late november, concluded in feb i think. I've been very busy

poor support for disabled customers

After 4 months, I have had no allowance made for my disability, and everytime I complain and ask for either a x senior partner or the DEI manager, ask i get are complaints.

This form seem to ignore their obligations to identify themselves, as they make up excuses that they cannot call from the main number, which are anti scam measures advised by the ICO and the met police. I feel abused by what seems to be arrogant staff who bully people into using non secure phone numbers.

I have tried to get a senior partner yesterday, but instead of them making reasonable adjustments for me, they wanted me to make unreasonable adjustments for them!

It was a friendly service all round

It was a friendly service all round, the lady at the beginning was fantastic and I found the surveyor a little bit edgy and didn’t see the issues as much as what the lady did. Still waiting on cheque but can’t complain would definitely recommend!! Many thanks
