I really love Grubbys recipes, they are different from many other recipe boxes. I have just bought their cookbook because I love the recipes. Unfortunately there is always a problem with some of the produce each week, usually it's food past it's best and unusable. Each box always arrives damaged, not Grubbys fault I know. Also there isn't a spice rating for each recipe so sadly if you don't like hot food you either have to try it and see or avoid all recipes that might be spicy. This is the second time I've tried Grubby boxes for a month and it's still the same problems I had last year. Not ideal.
However, the customer service is always pretty good and everyone is very friendly.

Every meal we’ve had has been restaurant quality. Everything comes ready it its own paper bag and the quality of ingredients is great.
If you want to eat more veg this is the box for you. The portions are very generous and filling. Every meal is colourful and the flavours and textures are very well thought out. I don’t usually eat processed vegetarian meat alternatives, however I did try some during my subscription and was really pleased to find the “sausages” were excellent.
Amazing food, super fresh ingredients, and incredibly easy recipes. I love that Grubby is 100% vegan — every meal has been full of flavour and really satisfying. Couldn’t recommend them enough!
Really enjoying these nutritious meals, full of flavour and so useful to have a nutritional breakdown, as I'm keen to increase my protein levels now I'm entering my mature years !
Really delicious plant based ready meals! Easy to order, great service!
New to Grubby and enjoying taking advantage of their introductory offer of 25% off our first 4 boxes. The portion sizes are generous and extremely tasty. Would definitely recommend!
Everything went wrong. The freezer pouches burst making everything wet & defrosted. Recipes are illegible, food spoilt, box crushed. Put a complaint in on Thursday, it's now Sunday and heard nothing!
Love the recipes they have improved greatly over time but it’s expensive and on occasions the food is damaged in transit or doesn’t last as long as it should
So many different recipes. Great flavours. We are not vegan but love the meals on Grubby. The app is very easy to use. Delivery has been very reliable too.
Delicious vegan meals!
Tasty and great value meals. I occasionally eat meat but try to eat vegan meals as much as possible. Grubby has taught me lots of new recipes. If you like meat, try a recipe with Fable meaty mushrooms - tastes exactly like steak!
I had a problem with my order for next week and it was really quickly handled and sorted by Matilda. Thanks
I’ve really enjoyed trying Grubby! The recipes are tasty, the portions are generous, and everything I’ve made so far has been great. I also love that Grubby collaborates with other companies (like Symplicity, who make mushroom mince) - it’s a fun way to try something new. There’s a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and I find the packaging very convenient: each recipe comes neatly packed in a single bag with everything needed for two meals, so it’s easy to just pop it in the fridge until you’re ready to cook.
That said, the packaging is a bit of a mixed bag (no pun intended!). While convenient, sometimes sturdier items like cans can squash more delicate produce - I’ve had a couple of tomatoes turn up damaged or even mouldy. I’d also appreciate illustrated recipe cards, as the current text-heavy layout can be a little hard to follow at times.
My biggest sticking point, though, is the price. It’s noticeably higher than similar services, and on top of that, some recipes come with extra charges. Given that plant-based ingredients are usually cheaper than meat, this feels a bit surprising (perhaps it’s down to economies of scale). If the cost were about 20–25% lower, I’d happily stick with it long-term.
Overall, Grubby offers delicious, creative meals and a great variety of plant-based options - just a few tweaks on packaging, pricing, and recipe cards would make it perfect!
I have been getting Grubby boxes for well over a year now and I'm still not bored. They have such a good selection of meals and are always adding new things.
Having recipe boxes takes away a lot of the mental load of planning, shopping and making meals, amd has really cut down on my food waste.
Their customer service is excellent - any minor mishaps have been quickly, happily, and generously corrected.
I had only planned on getting the boxes for a few weeks during a busy time of my life but here I am! I've learned a few tofu tricks along the way (and had tempeh I enjoyed eating for the first time ever).
The meals pass all expectations every time. The flavours and textures are better than most restaurants!
Loving the meals.
Veg/salad sometimes not its best
The owner/founder have to understand that people are paying for your brain, your chef level experience, your organisational skills, your timely delivery of some basic ingredient which is fraction of the cost. There is nothing wrong with paying a premium for cheap ingredients - I am mom with a full time job, I am paying just so I can let my brain rest after work and mindlessly follow a recipe.
I am not paying for an amateur telling people to put soy sauce and nutritional yeast in everything!!!
Both of the recipe I tried feels like what a uni student first time away from home come up with! Experimental, randomly invented way of cooking some rather simple sauce!
There's something wrong if your recipe for Bolognese sauce and Swedish meatball sauce have so much in common:
- Bolognese - Veg Stock, Tamari, Nutritional Yeast, Tomato Puree
- Swedish Meatball - Veg Stock, Tamari, Nutritional Yeast, Dijon Mustard, cooked with diced onions
I made the Bolognese first, already shocked that they are not using fresh tomatoes, or at least, tinned tomatoes... It just taste of salt and nothing else, even when I added lots of sugar to balance it out. I had to bulk it up with more than double the amount of pasta (because I do not have extra gnocchi at home), and now I have a whole fridge of awful tasting, bland pasta/gnocchi Bolognese.
When I cooked the Swedish meatball, I was careful enough to put only half the veg stock, Tamari and nutritional yeast. It still taste exactly the same as the Bolognese, very salty and no other flavour. I added an extra spoonful of my own Dijon mustard, another blended and fried (not diced) onion, 1/3 box of soy cream and some honey. My addition made the flavour more interesting but the intense saltiness is still overbearing. I was ok to eat it, but my partner and my kid left it.
Also why are you asking me to make my own Swedish meatball from some vege sausages, which is a complicated mission. But just to boil some fresh beans for 4 minutes?!!
If people order a food box from you, they are not asking for to make meatballs (a product that can be bought ready made) from sausage (another product that can also be bought ready made). just give them some vege meatball. Research the proper way to make a professional swedish sauce from scratch, and get people to pan fry the beans which also just take 4 mins but 100 times tastier!
Still have a couple of meal to try. But I will definitely research a proper recipe and use my own ingredients, so essentially, I am doing both the organisation and the ingredients gathering myself. Totally don't see the point of ordering this.
