Extremely disappointing experience at Harvey Norman Blanchardstown-over €800 spent and still no resolution

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Harvey Norman Blanchardstown. I spent over €800 on a DJI drone and accessories, and what should have been an enjoyable purchase has turned into a frustrating experience that has wasted far too much of my time.

My original drone developed a gimbal issue and was replaced. Unfortunately, the replacement subsequently developed the same reported fault. After already going through the replacement process once, I expected Harvey Norman to take the situation seriously and help me find a fair solution.

Instead, I am being asked to return the drone for another DJI assessment, with no guarantee of a replacement and the possibility of additional repair costs. I understand that physical damage needs to be assessed, but the recurring gimbal issue and the history of the previous replacement also need to be considered. After spending this amount of money, I expected clearer communication and a more reassuring response.

What made this experience even worse was how my wife and I felt we were treated when seeking help in the store. I raised concerns about my interactions involving Kevin and Deepak, whom I understood to be an assistant manager. My wife came home extremely upset after her experience. We went looking for help with a product we had purchased, not an argument. Customers deserve to be treated respectfully, even when a problem cannot be resolved immediately.

I escalated my concerns to Robert Gilmartin, the Store Manager, and copied Colin Curtis into my correspondence so senior management would be aware. Katie Madill from customer service subsequently acknowledged my complaint, apologised for the inconvenience and confirmed that the store interaction was being investigated internally. I appreciate that acknowledgement, but the drone issue itself remains unresolved, with no replacement offered and uncertainty about possible repair costs.

What frustrates me most is the amount of time I’ve had to spend chasing a solution. I run a business, and my time is valuable. I bought this drone to use it, not to keep sending emails, repeating the same explanation and facing another assessment without knowing whether it will actually resolve anything.

I am now considering resolving the drone issue through my insurance, subject to my policy terms. However, that does not mean I am satisfied with the way Harvey Norman has handled this complaint. I should not have to look elsewhere for a way forward and still be left disappointed with the service I received from the retailer.

I would have preferred to resolve this matter directly and positively. Unfortunately, the recurring fault, the uncertainty around the proposed assessment, the time wasted and our experience with customer service have seriously damaged my confidence in Harvey Norman Blanchardstown.

I hope management takes this complaint seriously, reviews the concerns raised about the store interaction and considers how this situation could have been handled better.

Based on my experience, I would think very carefully before making another significant purchase from this store. Spending over €800 should not leave a customer feeling this frustrated, unsupported and disappointed.

Excellent service from Mr Krishna. We came in planning to buy a mattress, and he explained the pros and cons; we were very happy with his explanations, so we bought the best one in the shop. He has good knowledge of the section and a good approach toward his customers.

I bought the product to pick up from one store, but they told me it was out of stock at that store (even when the store website showed it as available). They told me I could collect it from a farther store (10 more minutes of travel by car).They provide a solution, but if the product is not available in any store, it should show it as such on the website.

Great products great delivery time and good quality
