Beautiful rural location

Beautiful rural location, but close enough to Dunkeld for days out.
The booking process was simple - I like that you can secure with a deposit and pay the remainder closer to the travel date.
We managed to see red squirrels, a hare as well as lots of rabbits! The bird song each morning was a joy and the 'dark sky' for star gazing was something I had not realised we would have.
Would thoroughly recommend the house and the location.

Lovely place but no privacy and noisy ( lorries) We enjoyed our stay at the Old Forge…

We enjoyed our stay at the Old Forge Cottage, it was laid out well, it was spacious, cosy, well equipped and clean (just the blinds got missed.) The cottage was in a good location for visiting places like Bakewell and Dovedale etc. We recommend The Pack Horse Inn, in New Mills for food.

We didn’t receive a welcome pack even though some other guests have received cakes etc. We feel consistency is key when it comes to the little touches.

This property is NOT NOT NOT dog friendly!!!!!!!!!! We decided to pop our dog into a kennels at the last minute due to the heat wave and I’m glad we did. The patio is shared between 3 properties and there hasn’t been any attempts to create a safe private area for anyone. You can quite literally walk into another person property. Please be aware that if you are staying in Lyme cottage, there is a cctv camera on the wall looking into you patio space and the large door opens inwards straight into the area. Also be aware that the property on the end is either owned by the cottage owners or rented out. We had a man walking backwards and forwards regularly on the communal patio.

What we weren’t told is that the property is opposite a lorry haulage/ distribution centre so we were woken up at 2,3,4am with the lorries coming and going.

We personally wouldn’t stay at this property again due to the lack of privacy and the noise from the lorries. We did however have a lovely family holiday despite this!

Everything we needed was at hand

Everything we needed was at hand. Instructions were clear and a very useful folder was left showing wahts on and where. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Adequate parking was nearby and you pay by donation. It is a very dig friendly place. We had a brilliant tour of the Adnam's brewery in the town. The cottage was in a perfect location.

Lovely apartment in great location

Good communication with company. Clear instructions about location and entry to property. Instructions provided for appliances, but nothing about the property itself e.g. recycling/rubbish and local amenities.
Damage deposit returned promptly.

Disappointing

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Bowness-on- Windermere, which is a lovely, very dog friendly town and the cottage is in an excellent location. It’s less than a 5 minute walk to the lake and within easy walking distance of plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops, making it a great place for exploring the area. The off-street parking is a bonus, although we did find it quite difficult to use. The angle of the gate combined with the corner of the house, makes manoeuvring onto the drive challenging, and we would struggle to see how two reasonably sized cars could comfortably fit as suggested. We were also disappointed to discover that the property is semi-detached, as this wasn’t clear from either the online photographs or description. During our stay, we could hear noise from the neighbouring property, which appears to be another holiday rental. We also noticed a number of people regularly walking down the access road, seemingly assuming they could access the holiday park at the rear, which did reduce the sense of privacy. Unfortunately, the property wasn’t as clean as we would expect on arrival. We found several spiders webs, the bath plug hole was full of hair and there was a lingering unpleasant smell around the rear door and corridor area. The online photographs also make the ground floor appear much brighter that it is in reality. We found it to be quite dark and the furniture throughout felt rather tired and in need of updating. Given the price of the accommodation, we were also a little surprised that there wasn’t even a small welcome pack provided on arrival, as this is something we’ve come to expect from similar holiday properties. We love visiting the Lake District and will certainly return in the future. However, while the location of this cottage is excellent, we don’t feel it offered the standard or value we were expecting and unfortunately we wouldn’t choose to stay at this property again.

This is the third time I've booked…

This is the third time I've booked accommodations in England through Holiday Cottages. Twice, the accommodations were great; unfortunately, the last one was a letdown. I had hoped that booking through Holiday Cottages would provide me with a certain level of assurance and a minimum standard of quality. Do you inspect the accommodations regularly?
The booking process and the way the addresses were provided were great.

A lovely cottage in a great location

We had a lovely week at this beautiful cottage which has been renovated to a very high standard. We loved the kitchen with its island unit and bifold doors. All the rooms are attractive with some retaining original features. The property was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The cottage is in a great location with easy access to the Sandringham Estate and the beaches on the North Norfolk coast. We would definitely like to return sometime soon.

The location of the house was ideally…

The location of the house was ideally placed with a local Inn 10 minutes walk from the house and supermarkets and shops 15 minutes away by car.
The house was very spacious and comfortable with a large enclosed garden which was ideal for our pet.

The cottage was amazing

The cottage was amazing. A member of staff at Holiday Cottages made an error with our booking, which Holiday Cottages sorted very quickly. They went above and beyond to reach a satisfactory conclusion. We have used them before and will definitely use them again
