Il Marchesato is a family Company founded in 1978 in Saluzzo, a tiny town in the North West of Italy, not far from Turin.
The name is after the old name of the area, and it means “The land of the Marquis”, a common way in the ancient times to define places according to the nobles in charge. From the beginning Il Marchesato makes hand made luxury umbreallas, walking sticks and shoehorns with a vast array of high quality materials.
Every single piece is mounted by hand, precious textiles cut by hand, sticks and handles are worked by the family members and porcelain handles painted by local artists working with the Company since longtime. Even the top notches and runners of the umbrellas are mounted and tested internally one by one.

Be aware you will receive a bill for Duty Charges
After the umbrella arrived, I received a bill for $60 USD for Duty Charges. I was not informed that I would incur this additional cost.

It’s important to clarify that these import duties are not applied or received by us, but are taxes imposed directly by the government of the destination country — in this case, the United States. This is a recent measure introduced by U.S. customs authorities, and it is entirely beyond our control.
We also wish to highlight that this information is clearly stated on our website: in the Delivery Rates and Refund Policy pages, and during checkout, where a note (accessible via the question mark icon) specifies that custom duties are always excluded.
While we fully understand your frustration, it’s unfortunate that your review does not mention the quality of the handmade product, the speed of production and shipment, or the customer assistance we always provide with care and dedication. Reducing the experience to an external customs tax doesn’t reflect the level of service and craftsmanship we consistently deliver to all our clients worldwide.

My umbrella arrived with a broken part of it! The ear of the dragon of the handle was broken! Such a dissatisfaction for such an expensive item!

The umbrella is great!
However, I have lost a stone from the Panther umbrella and been trying to get a replacement stone. I think they should just send a few extra stones of each color when umbrellas are sent out.
The Trump tarriffs were not fun to pay, but I know that is not your issue.

Not worth the cost
At first glance, the umbrella is lovely, but for the cost I expected more. The embroidery is cheap looking, poorly sized and the plain white thread contrasts with the pink/brown tones of the umbrella. The chain is flimsy and cheap. There is a lack of detail on the sculpting of the handle.

I was hesitant to order an umbrella due to the cost, although I moved forward with my order. I received my order so quickly, I was quite surprised! I have zero regrets spending the money on the umbrella because the quality is fantastic and I absolutely love the print.
