Reviewers also reported feeling pressured into expensive procedures or euthanasia without full transparency or consideration for alternative, more affordable options. Extortionate prices

The vets we have been going to for many have been taken over by IVC. This company has no interest in providing reasonable priced animal care. They have now put a mark up of over 250% on medication even though they own Pet Drugs Online (PDO) who offer up to 76% off. The co founder of PDO John Campbell, helped launch PDO to in 2005 to allow pet owners to dramatically cut their pet health cost. What IVC has now done is to raise the cost of prescriptions from £12 to £25 per item this basically nullifies any savings that can be made. You also need to be careful that your vet doesn’t charge you for medication that doesn’t require a prescription and can be bought locally or online at a far cheaper price without notifying you of this. An example of this is Remend Corneal Repair Gel 3ml. Standard Retail Price £14.62 online price £8.34 and Vet price £32.41 this is a mark up of 288% against their own companies PDO’s price. The cost of food supplied by vets has also increased significantly and is again a lot more expensive than available from shops like pets at home, for example Purian 3kg Sterilised cat food £23.49, Vet Price £38.00. I think if possible you should find a local vet who is interested in your pets welfare and providing a service at an affordable price. This review is not against the staff at my vets, they still provide an excellent service.

Greedy Corporation.

Our vets have been taken over by IVC as have numerous others in our area. Although the service provided has remained reasonably the prices have gone through the roof. I threw my teddy out of the cot when I found out that I was being charged 3 times as much for medication as I should have been paying. Further research has shown that treatment costs and written prescription costs are roughly twice that of other vets in the area. We have now switched to a vet that is a 45 minute drive away as the 3 practices closer to us are all now owned by IVC. It isn’t surprising that IVC are under investigation by the CMA.

Depressing

I work in animal rescue and have emailed IVC several times mainly to disuss costs of treatment.
Some of the charges are just extorniate. With the current cost of living crisis many owners just cant afford the rise in charges.this effects people who are on low income but arent on benefits so dont have access to other vet options eg pdsa
My own vet was bought by IVC they have lost many longterm customers..and I am actually concerned that they will close. So IVC are shooting themselves in the foot because of their business not animal welfare ethos

All about the money

Since IVC took over our local vets, the prices have skyrocketed. They no longer care about the animal's welfare, just the money. I have since changed practice to a small family run firm.
My advice would be check the vets you are thinking of registering with & if they belong to the IVC Evidensia group avoid at all costs !!!!!

Disgusting price increase.

Since IVC took over our local vets the price of medication for our pony has gone up by 60%. Other vets and online suppliers still charge the old price.
Luckily we've found another vet to treat all our animals.

No help for our sick dog

No help for our sick dog unless a very high payment! Only after your money. The law here states they have to help but they didn't. Now our little dog is dead

It’s time the government retracted…

It’s time the government retracted their 1999 act by allowing anyone and any company without being a qualified vet to buy and own veterinary practices and hospitals, This has opened the floodgates to greed abusing client mental health, knowing U.K. is well known as animal lovers and we would do anything to keep our dogs, cats, etc alive. These diabolical companies are playing with people’s emotions. How on earth can they charge min £1.8k just for investigations plus the min £7k for an operation that’s the minor end of the scale. How can they Substantiate their very high fees. vets used to deal with anything that was put in front of them and got on with it, now more and more vets are doing referrals. Why??? Do they earn commission for each referral, this is the only explanation to this current lunacy state of affairs in the veterinary industry. IVC are spending £10m to refurb Southern County Vets in Hampshire, how did they manage that knowing last CH accounts show they are over £85m in debt and they are a high risk company to go under.😡

Greedy.

Same as other recent comments really. Very disappointed that long established private (not greedy) practices are being bought up by companies like this and customers charges rocketing. Our dog is diabetic and needs to have glucose curve repeated every few months.

Taken from their website…” Our guiding principle has always been our conviction that the best way of achieving high-quality clinical care and exceptional client service is through local leadership. ”

Rubbish. The charge for the glucose curve has increased from £38 to £50 to £122 in the space of two years.

Sad times. Off to try and find another independent ☹️.

Substandard Service & customer care

Cockfosters Veterinary Practice - This is a practice that has shown an utter lack of professionalism & care of my animals for the last few years. My dog has been under there supervision & after 3-6 months of constant visits, test & medication they want to do further tests all of which they had done before several times & could not get to the bottom of his constant issue. I eventually asked for a referral to the RVC. They have made progress in dealing with this in less than 3 months. The Cockfosters Vets even managed to mess up my repeat fleaing & worming prescriptions which took over 2 weeks from the point of ordering & they only explanation was the system went down without an apology for the error. Appalling vets with no customer care

Sad and disappointed

I have been a long term user of Gilmore vets and am shocked with the service I have received over the last 18 months. Covid has affected a lot of things, but care, customer service and advice I didn't expect to be any of them.

Every time I call I am unable to get through to speak to anyone and every time I've succeeded I have been met with rudeness and lack of ability. I loved this vet and the staff, however since the acquisition by IVC, they have spiralled to being just a money making entity. Their prices are now ridiculous and their best interests are not with their patients.

Not a great place to work.

Not a great place to work.
Condescending staff, lack of progression and no places to park to get to work (even after stating plenty of parking)
All about the small company mentality but in reality nothing like it
