As a student, NEVER give this to your kid

I HATE IXL as a student. I used it a lot In especially as an elementary student, and it ruined my love for math early. It is EXTREMELY stressful, and the point system is torture. I’ve asked classmates, and not a single person likes it. It causes stress because it’s near impossible to get a perfect score. The worst part is that it lies to your face, saying it increases your confidence. In reality, it’s greatly decreased my confidence in math, feeling that I’m awful just for missing one answer. Also, for neurodivergent people like me, it’s not only wildly impossible to keep focused, but I had MANY meltdowns, even as a young kid. If your a teacher or parent, NEVER give this to a kid, just use any other app.

O IXL, the horrible one

O IXL, titan of tabs and torment untold,
Spreadsheet monarch with a heart of cold,
You promise “practice” in gentle disguise,
Then drop twenty questions like meteor skies.

Your SmartScore climbs like a mountain of ice,
One slip—and you tumble down… not once, but twice.
Ninety-nine glory within student sight,
One decimal wrong—goodbye to the height.

You whisper “adaptive,” but students all know
That means “harder questions the moment you grow.”
You lure us in with a cheerful green check,
Then shove us backwards for one tiny speck.

Oh ruler of retries, emperor of grind,
You test not math but strength of mind.
Fractions repeat like an echoing cave,
Each one more confusing, each one less brave.

“Find the slope,” you chant again and again,
Numbers reshuffled, same headache, same pain.
X disappears, Y runs wild,
Algebra turns savage, logic turns mild.

Your hints cost points like a toll on a road,
Three points vanish for knowledge bestowed.
“Consider the pattern,” you vaguely declare,
While confidence evaporates into air.

IXL, scoreboard tyrant, calculator king,
You make wrong answers a dramatic thing.
One misclick, one rounding mistake,
And suddenly everything’s at stake.

Your progress bar crawls with theatrical flair,
Two percent gained after ten minutes of stare.
Victory tastes like cardboard dust,
Perfection demanded, or back you must.

You are the pop quiz that never ends,
The loading wheel that never bends.
Students stare in silent dread,
Watching SmartScores drop instead.

Ninety-eight… ninety-five… ninety-two… fall,
Each mistake echoing through the hall.
“Almost there!” your cheerful cry,
Then subtract five points… why, oh why?

Two trains leave stations, here we go again,
One goes north, one through my brain.
Word problems march like an endless parade,
Logic dissolves, confidence fades.

Oh IXL, endless treadmill of doom,
Digital dungeon of fluorescent gloom,
Yet still we return, assignment in hand,
Bound by homework across the land.

IXL sucks.

Alright, so. I'm excellent at both English and Math with straight A's for the subject. IXL is so frustrating. My teachers assign one almost every day, expecting it to get done by midnight...

Here's the thing. IXL? It's 'lying'. It's goal is to make children's education be improved. However, it does NOTHING. Students, like me, can not focus on IXL. It drains us. Now, I know this might sound cringe, but it is from my IXL and classmates experience.

Teachers, please do not assign IXL homework to everyone. At most, do a Group Jam. You and your students can work together to do it.

And if you didn't get any of this...

ixl lowk sucks xd the system lowk bunz

IXL is not good.

IXL is the worst platform I have ever used, and schools are using it to prepare for STAAR. I feel like if I use IXL to study, I will end up failing my STAAR. You can be on an absolute roll and then miss one question, and you're back to square zero.

ixl is the wort learning platform ever…

IXL is the worst learning platform ever. It gave my child a wrong answer and made my child fail his exams, and with their smart score '' made my child feel dumb when he did not get good marks. My child was not that good at learning, but IXL made him stupider at first. His test scores were low, and we thought that oh it's ok, he is probably getting used to IXL, but now this is unexpected, this is an American company, that's the problem

IXL Needs to be removed from all schools.

IXL is so bad, as a student I hate IXL as it is such a struggle to keep your smart score up. And it makes me feel dumb as I go to a lower smart score if I am stuck in a low smart score because that shows I am dumb and my "SMART" score isn't high. I hate IXL and I wish it could just be removed from all schools.

Very overwhelming and frustrating

As a student, I have been using IXL for years now, every time I get assigned an IXL either it takes me 5-20 minutes or I get stuck in a “loop” were I answer a couple questions and gain 10 points but if I get one question wrong I loose 20, I hate IXL so much.

IXL? more like Diexl!

This website sucks. For one, they call the score "Smart" score, which is offensive for kids who are not doing well. I'm currently in 6th grade and my math teacher sometimes assigns 10 assignments in one day! Also, the score system is garbage. It gives you 10-20 points on the first few questions, but when you're at 80-90 points, it gets rid of 10-20 points if you get a question wrong! This is so rigged. I currently have ADHD and autism and this stresses me out so much at school. This website should be deleted instantly, IXL, if you read this, please fix it!

IT’S THE BEST! (at being the worst).

A crashed-and-burned hunk of garbage. IXL is mental torture. The SmartScore will always drop more than 5 points when you get to the “challenge zone”, the explanations when you get it wrong are almost as if it’s going “DuH… I duNnO!”, and to prove my point FURTHER, it has induced stress in me countless times. Whether it be at home or at school, IXL is a complete TRAINWRECK.

I used to like math and I was good at it

I have always had a strong aptitude for and interest in mathematics. However, my experience with the IXL platform has significantly diminished both my enjoyment and engagement with the subject. Rather than reinforcing my understanding, it has often felt unhelpful and discouraging, making it more difficult for me to stay motivated and continue progressing in math.
I'm in 6th grade.
