Interest in the lawn and in us, plus superb expertise..

The staff take a personal interest both in our lawn and in us as people. The summer drought came just after the lawn was scarified, leaving it bare and patchy, for a number of weeks. The staff were hugely encouraging, giving the patches (and us) their best TLC. Then the deluge came; and the lawn returned! Two months later, it looks better now than it has for some years, thick and a lush green. Mowing it is now (almost) a joy!

Have been a customer for many years

Have been a customer for many years. Our lawns are the envy of the neighbours who always comment on them. Treatments definitely work and given the option of additional procedures but there is no pressure. Pleasant operatives and always arrive on the day of booking. Highly recommend.

Poor customer service at Head Office

Not for the first time telephoned to request a later Treatment Date than that suggested on the Invoice covering October visit.
First call in office hours 1.15 no answer .
Called an hour later- don't know name of recipient since those involved in running this business in Wales wrap themselves in anonymity.
Been customer 15 years, 12 with local husband and wife franchisees very helpful & personable.
Subsequently the operation was run out of North Wales 150 miles away. Other than the technician, company reps seem reluctant to give out their names.
I was calling to request a later date for the first 2025 treatment.
In the early days of this contract 3 annual treatments were deemed sufficient then it became 4 which I had had for past 6-7 years. Now seemingly 5 are deemed are the industry norm.
It became apparent that Lawn Master wanted me to go onto a 5 treatment cycle 10 weeks apart. There are 52 weeks in year - into which 10 does not divide.
I had not set my mind against this , but wanted to understand the practicalities before committing.
This seemed to enrage the accounts manager and she advised she was cancelling my contract & put down the phone.
This is a first for me and I've been around 84+ years.

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few points following your recent conversation with our team.

Our standard treatment programme has always consisted of five feed and weed treatments per year, along with one annual aeration, as clearly stated on our website.

(Kevin) previously managed the Guildford area and we can see he had provided a reduced number of treatments prior in your case. However, our standard programme remains consistent nationwide.

During your recent call, you requested to postpone your next treatment again, as you have done on previous occasions. Our colleague explained that your next visit is scheduled approximately 12 weeks from your last treatment.

You mentioned that you believe treatments should be carried out every 13 weeks to fit within a calendar year; however, our standard programme operates on an 8–12-week cycle.

Extending the interval beyond this period can leave the lawn more vulnerable to weeds and disease. The weed control products we use are effective for approximately 8–12 weeks, after which weed regrowth is likely to occur if further treatment is delayed.

As per your specific request, your lawn currently receives four treatments per year, spaced at 12-week intervals. While there are 52 weeks in a year and these treatments cover approximately 48 weeks, this does not mean that treatments become more frequent or closer together. It simply means that your next annual cycle commences in the following year, ensuring your four-treatment schedule remains consistent.

Finally, I would like to address the conduct of the recent call. Our team members are trained professionals whose role is to provide guidance and assistance. It is important that all communication remains courteous and respectful.

For clarity, our colleague did not terminate the call, it concluded after they asked whether you wished to cancel your account, to which you responded, “I’ll be in touch.” Any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate.

Lawnmaster Lawn Services

We have been using Lawnmaster to maintain our lawns. Recently, during a routine visit, their operative, in their observations and recommendations section of the invoice, indicated there was evidence of chafer grubs in our lawn and proposed a treatment cost of £308. Chafer Grubs can decimate a lawn and can be a serious problem. Lawnmaster’s invoice also mentioned that “Chafer Grubs require a minimum of two applications a year”.
So firstly, when I asked Lawnmaster to provide evidence of the Chafer Grub infestation they refused so we were left questioning on what basis they had come to their conclusions and hence what was the justification for the £300 treatment charge. Should we as customers not have this explained to us?
Secondly, when we asked Lawnmaster which insecticide they were proposing to apply to our lawn as part of the treatment as we have pets and wildlife and we wanted to understand the impact so they were not adversely impacted, Lawnmaster would not disclosure the product they were planning to apply stating it was commercially sensitive. Based on advice from local lawn experts we have been informed there is only one licensed product that can be used in the UK on Chafer Grubs which is effective which is Acelepryn.
Thirdly, we have found out from other local lawn maintenance providers as well as the manufacturer of the insecticide that the application of this insecticide to treat Chafer Grubs in Sept/Oct is unlikely to be effective as they are fully grown and can survive the application and the treatment needs to be applied in May-July when they are hatching and young.
We have been disappointed with the service from Lawnmaster in the Guildford area and the response from their head office as a result of the above. We believe they have withheld information we should be provided with as customers and not been transparent about the recommendations they have made or provided evidence to back them up. If we were customers without the means to do the background research we may have ended up paying a large sum of money needless. We would expect Lawnmaster to treat its customers fairly, honestly, transparently and with respect and we have found this not to be the case.
As you can see below, Lawnmaster have become confrontational and aggressive when asked for evidence of the chafer grub infestation they claim I need treatment for and details of the insecticide. All the product information I have listed above is available to anyone who has access to the internet. There seem to be an increasing amount of low scoring reviews for Lawnmaster so something to bear in mind when you are considering a provider for Lawn maintenance as customers should not receive treatments that may not be needed, are costly and details of the treatment are not forthcoming. I am
happy to send pictures of our lawn following Lawnmaster claim we have chafer grubs to anyone reading this review so they can see for themselves.

We feel it is important to clarify a few points regarding the information shared in your review.

The product and application methods used in treating chafer grubs are commercially sensitive. Publicly disclosing these details misrepresents our operational practices and risks the integrity of our services. Such information is intended only for licensed professionals, to ensure safe and effective use.

The fact that you are publicly sharing product information for a professionally licensed product is frankly reckless. We therefore respectfully request that any reference to specific products be removed from your review as you are putting the public at risk in doing so.

One of the reasons why many products in the professional turf industry get revoked, is because of people like yourself who believe they can buy and apply whatever they wish and then publicise it where they like.

Our operative recommended a treatment based on clear evidence of grub activity observed during his visit, following industry standards and best practice. Timing and application are carefully considered to minimize lawn damage, considering grub lifecycle and environmental conditions.

You have tried to state in your review that you were concerned about pets and wildlife, however the email string tells a different story. You purely wanted to see if you could apply a treatment cheaper yourself, quoting the use of nematodes in some of your emails. You repeatedly made reference to the price of the treatment we offered in multiple emails.

The price you were quoted was fair and reasonable and you will have identified this in your research.

We explained multiple times that nematodes are extremely ineffective due to the restrictions and limitations in applying them with success, but that was not good enough for you.

All products used in our industry are fully licensed, legally permitted, and applied in strict compliance with UK regulations. Safety for pets, wildlife, and customers is always a top priority. Proprietary product information is withheld to prevent misuse or unintended harm, which is standard practice across the professional industry.

Lawn Master is committed to providing professional, transparent, and effective advice. Recommendations are always made in the best interests of the customer.

With respect, we are the largest group of turf professionals that provide lawn treatments in the UK. We got to this position because we know what we are doing. If you want to take the advice of your own research and other “local lawn maintenance providers”, feel free. Just bear in mind you will likely not have a lawn left by next year.

Don't use this firm

Don't use this firm. They are a very big waste of money and do not improve your grass. We used them for around 2 years. Weren't ever impressed and the prices for everything were extortionate. After the 1st year we decided to give them another few months. They did treatments at the wrong times. Ran them all one month after the other when they should have been spaced out. A number of other things could be mentioned but the final crunch came when they scarified the lawns in the middle of a heatwave and despite daily watering by ourselves the lawns were ruined. Our lawns never looked worse than when being treated by this firm. Visitors and neighbours alike passed comments on how poor our grass looked. They spent very minimal time on them, saw it all on our CCTV, and nothing was really effective. The weeds were never any less than prior to using them. If you're wondering whether to try them or not.....take my advice and DON'T. You will waste £100's. Ours was well into 4 figures and we achieved nothing from the investment. We'd never let them back.

Not impressed at all

Not impressed at all. I paid for the feed and weed treatments. My lawn isn’t very big but the last visit was just under 2 minutes from arrival to departure. Quick up and down spreading some granular substance, missing areas then 3 very brief squirts of weed control in 3 corners. The lawn has red thread worse than ever. No advice or solution offered. Seems like paying lip service to me. Disappointing waste of money.

I wanted to follow up regarding your recent lawn treatment and subsequent cancellation.

The lawn is approximately 50 square metres, and treatments of this size are completed efficiently using a calibrated spreader to ensure even, consistent coverage. Weed control is applied as a spot treatment unless a blanket application is required, which wasn’t the case here.

The visit took place on 16th July, rescheduled from the 11th due to high temperatures. Our technician noted someone was home at the time, and no concerns were raised during or after the visit.
Regarding red thread, we’ve only started seeing signs of it in the area following recent humid weather. Prior to this, including at the time of your treatment, we had no reports—even on lawns with previous occurrences. Had our technician seen anything of concern, it would have been reported, and we’d have contacted you directly.

As payment was made shortly after the visit without any issues raised, the cancellation came as a surprise. Normally, if a customer is dissatisfied, we’d expect some feedback at that stage.

We do, of course, respect your decision and appreciate your previous custom. Should you wish to revisit this in the future, we’d be happy to help.
