I answered an add on line to sell my gold, quick evaluation and great prices. I completed the application and description form and added photos, a day later I was instructed to bring my gold to one of their shops, so my first concern was why was I not just told to bring in my gold instead of all the paperwork and photos. I arrived at the shop and was met by a sullen looking female who took my gold off me and went into a back room, I asked why are you not apprising and weighing my gold in front of me, she replied our scales are in the back. I could hear her on the phone to another branch so it was then obvious that I was being dealt with by some who has neither the skills or the authority to appraise gold.

The value at that time of my gold (112 grams) was £2.864.00, Mays disgraceful offer was £2050 which was £800 less than scrap value despite three of the five items were in better condition that some they already had in the shop window and would not have been scraped. The lesson here is simple, don't deal with back street so called gold traders because they don't trade they rip off, stay away from MAYS.

Received a reply from Mays which just added insult to the initial insult. Readers take note: Bolton Bullion in Farnworth gave me £660.00 more than Mays offered, my advice stands, STAY AWAY FROM MAYS.

with 9ct gold currently selling for around £24 to £25 a gram scrap value to be offered around £17 a gram (oh it had a broken clasp) is frankly insulting !! and to add insult to injury was LESS than cash converters were offering !!!

Great small jewellers, some good quality used pieces at decent prices. Seen a piece and called a couple of days later to see if they still had it. Held it for me until I could get back without a deposit. Even got it nicely gift wrapped for xmas as well.

Lovely friendly staff. Went in to sell some old gold and was surprised how knowledgeable the gentleman was and helpful. There was no hard sell, in fact he could sense I was somewhat reluctant to sell some items and encouraged me to keep them if I wasn’t 100% sure. The lady was really friendly and helpful too.
