Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 81 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Consumers find the wireless device very helpful for daily cooking routines and appreciate the initial performance when preparing meals. Many users mention that the physical design is appealing and the equipment works nicely when grilling various types of meat. Some reviewers were not happy with the poor connection stability and the frustratingly short battery life experienced during longer cooking sessions. People also noted that customer support can be extremely difficult to reach and often unhelpful when hardware or software issues unexpectedly arise. A few individuals additionally stated that the expensive items failed prematurely after just a couple of years of very occasional use.

Incredibly unreliable for a premium product

Incredibly unreliable for a premium product. Have owned a meater+ for a few years now and it’s been riddled with problems. Battery life is now so poor, I get one two uses out of a single charge. At least 30% of the time it just doesn’t connect and I’m unable to start a cook.

You’d expect better than this on a budget probe but for this price it’s unacceptable.

Hey Nick, thanks for sharing this. For more consistent performance we recommend using fresh alkaline batteries instead of rechargeable ones since alkaline cells provide 1.5V compared to 1.2V from rechargeables, and that extra voltage can help the dock fully charge the probe and improve overall reliability over time. For connection consistency we suggest keeping the phone and dock within close Bluetooth range during setup and cooking, with minimal walls or metal objects between them as these can weaken signal strength. It also helps to keep the app open while starting a cook, confirm the probe is properly placed in the dock before charging, and restart both the app and mobile device before use if anything feels unstable. Making sure firmware and the app are fully updated can also improve connectivity behavior. MEATER

Lasted just over a Year

Received as a present just over a Year ago. Now wont hold its charge for more than about 15mins. Multiple new batteries installed, cleaned charging station, still no joy. I was going to buy a few more of these but it's too much of a risk given how expensive they are. This one is going in the bin

David, your feedback is incredibly important to us, and we truly appreciate you sharing your experience. A probe losing its charge after a relatively short period of use is not the level of reliability we want our customers to experience, especially after you had been considering expanding your MEATER setup further.
Rapid battery drain can be related to internal battery degradation, charging contact alignment, incomplete charging cycles, or communication interruptions between the probe and charger dock. We recommend confirming the charger dock battery is brand new and properly installed, cleaning both the probe and dock contacts with a soft cloth and allowing the probe to remain fully seated in the charger for several hours to ensure a complete charge cycle. Verifying that the app and firmware are fully updated may also help improve charging communication and overall performance.

Before disposing of the probe, we would genuinely appreciate the opportunity to review your setup and explore possible options with you directly. Our team is available through support.meater.com, where we offer both chat and phone assistance, and we would be happy to continue working with you toward the best possible outcome.

Chris, your feedback means a lot to us, and we truly value you taking the time to share your experience. We understand how surprising it can be when a probe stops functioning properly, especially after enjoying the product.

While the probe falls outside the warranty coverage period, our team still wanted to provide an opportunity to continue enjoying the MEATER experience by extending a discounted replacement option. We are always committed to supporting our customers whenever possible and helping find the best available path forward.

If you are open to it, we would welcome the opportunity to review your case again and discuss whether there may be alternative options available beyond the discount already provided. Feedback like yours remains incredibly important to us as we continue improving both our products and customer experience.

Absolutely unacceptable customer…

Absolutely unacceptable customer service from Meater.
One of my probes stopped working after less than a year and a half — for a product marketed and priced as “premium,” that alone is disappointing. But what was far worse was the way customer support handled it.
I wasted weeks going in circles with their support team doing endless pointless troubleshooting: reset this, test that, send videos, send screenshots, repeat the same steps over and over again. Every reply felt designed to delay rather than actually solve the issue.
Eventually, they told me they would get back to me with a solution and even asked for my full personal address because they were supposedly arranging a replacement. After keeping me waiting for weeks, they finally sent a pathetic one-line response saying that Malta is “not covered under warranty.”
So after wasting my time, collecting my personal details, and creating the clear expectation that they would replace the faulty product, they simply backed out with a technicality they could have mentioned from day one.
This is not how a serious company treats paying customers. Meater may have good marketing, but their after-sales support is terrible. Completely destroyed my trust in the brand.
Do not trust this company.

Hi Ronald, thanks for sharing your experience. Malta is not excluded from MEATER warranty coverage, however warranty eligibility can vary depending on specific product conditions and the results from the checks completed with our support team. The questions, tests, videos, and screenshots requested during the process are part of how we identify what is happening with the product and determine the most appropriate resolution available. This is an important step so our team can accurately evaluate the behavior being reported rather than making assumptions about the cause. We understand that the process can sometimes feel lengthy, especially when multiple tests are involved, but the goal is always to fully understand the situation and provide the correct path forward. Hey Riaan, thanks for commenting and sharing your experience. If battery life is only around an hour after a full charge, one of the first things to check is the type of batteries being used in the dock, since rechargeable batteries can sometimes reduce performance due to their lower voltage compared to standard alkaline batteries. We recommend using fresh alkaline batteries in the dock and ensuring the probe is fully seated when charging so it can reach a complete charge cycle. It can also help to confirm that the charging contacts are clean and making solid contact. We want your MEATER to perform as expected throughout longer cooks, so these steps should help improve runtime consistency. MEATER

Probe has a lot of issues

Probe has a lot of issues. Brought from barbecues galore. The probe has always had connection issues, it works for about the 1st 2 hours of any cook and then just drops out connection between the probe and charger block.
I have followed all of the cleaning, charging and reset instructions with no luck. Same thing happens. The probe has never been over heated so it seems it’s just a bit of a lemon. I would recommend you save your money.

In response to the reply from Meater, I have also completed trouble shooting with the probe on my bench in close proximity to the charger block and within 300mm of my phone and experienced the same dropouts. So no issue with distance or disturbance of the signal. I have reset and repaired Bluetooth connections and checked for firmware updates nothing seems to fix my issue.

Hey Owen, thanks for commenting and sharing your experience. When connection drops after a period of cooking, it is often related to range or signal interference between the probe, dock, and mobile device, such as moving outside Bluetooth or WiFi range, physical obstructions like walls or metal surfaces, or even the probe being placed back into the dock during an active cook which can switch it into standby mode and interrupt the connection. Since you have already gone through cleaning, charging, and reset steps, we recommend also testing in a more open environment with all components close together and ensuring the dock has a clear line to your mobile device throughout the cook. We want your experience to be consistent from start to finish, so if this continues, please reach out to us so we can take a closer look and help further. MEATER

UK and Ireland agent are a joke.

The parent company will have to take responsibility for this review even though it relates to their agent for the UK and Ireland. The product is fantastic and a joy to use……….until it goes wrong. I’m not going to go into detail, as I’ve been typing all evening dealing with a representative on the support channel, and getting nowhere fast. JDM, who are the agents for Ireland are impossible to deal with. Basically, I’ve purchased a €120 kit that broke and I don’t think anything is going to be done about it. I value my time so even this review is hassle. Bottom line, steer clear of this product if you expect professional after sales service.

Hey Nicholas, thanks for sharing your experience. Connection drops like the one you are describing are usually related to range or interference between the probe, charger, and your mobile device, so it helps to keep all components within range and avoid barriers like thick walls or metal surfaces that can weaken the signal. It is also important to keep the probe out of the charger during a cook, since placing it back in the dock will pause the connection, and to make sure your phone stays within range and connected to WiFi if your setup uses it. This is not the experience we want for you, and in most cases these adjustments get everything running consistently, but if it continues we would like to take a closer look with you, feel free to reach out to us at +1 888-407-0303 so we can help get you back on track. The best customer service

I've used this product for a year and think it's great.

I had an issue with charging and tried everything and couldn't get it working.

I started a live chat and got Sara who was absolutely incredible and solved all of my problems, went above and beyond. A real credit to the company, you need to clone her. Thank you for sorting my issues.

The product itself is great, very accurate and well built. And if you ever do have issues you know you've got the support to fix them.

Connectivity issues in every product

I have been a meater customer from the early days. Meater +, Meater Block, Meater Pro Duo. While the tech kept improving (higher temps, thinner needles, wifi etc.) one main problem remains: Connectivity. It’s unstable, off and on etc. it’s mostly annoying when you just put everything on the grill and then both meater pro devices decide to lose connectivity “move your device closer to the probe” while the distance is literally 30cm. Interestingly, on all 3 models I have purchased over the years, these issues start at a later point after the purchase. Few weeks/months in. For that kind of money I would expect something way more reliable.

Good day, Jens. We really appreciate you sticking with MEATER over the years and sharing this perspective, it carries a lot of weight coming from someone who’s used multiple generations of the product.
The pattern you’re describing, where connectivity is solid at first and then becomes unstable over time, typically points to the connection between the probes and the charger gradually becoming less consistent. Since the system relies on that link to relay data, even small inconsistencies in power transfer or contact can reduce signal strength and cause those “move closer” messages, even at very short distances.
A helpful step is to thoroughly clean the contacts on both the probes and inside the charger, then ensure the probes are firmly seated and left docked for about 20–30 minutes before use. This helps confirm they’re maintaining a stable charge and connection. Also, keeping the charger positioned as close and unobstructed as possible during cooks can improve consistency.

That said, the behavior you’re describing isn’t expected, especially across multiple devices, and we want to make sure you’re getting the level of reliability you should at this price point. Please reach out to us at support.meater.com. We’d really like to dig into this with you and work toward a solution that restores your confidence in the product.

Great if it works!

Bought one of these for my husband for Christmas several years ago. Fantastic! After about a year it simply stopped working. To be fair, Meater’s customer service was excellent in that they replaced it with new one for us. Sadly, that second one has now stopped working. I suspect a replacement one won’t happen twice, so we’ll have to learn to live without it ☹️

Doesn’t work with a closed lid BBQ grill

I am not reviewing the company, I am reviewing the product - Meater SE. It may be because it’s the entry level model (yet it’s c.£80, so not a bargain basement price), but it doesn’t work most of the time when grilling on a Weber BBQ with a closed lid. I contacted the company about it and they patronisingly explained that I may want to familiarise myself with Faraday cage effect to understand why it doesn’t work. Ok, thank you. I understand that bbq grill reduces Bluetooth connectivity, but there are definitely probes that work despite being in the closed grill. My guess is it’s just not very strong Bluetooth connection and I need to buy a different probe from a different brand.

Eugene, we really appreciate you taking the time to share this honest and detailed feedback. We completely understand how disappointing it can be when the connection does not remain stable during a cook, especially with a closed-lid Weber grill.

The behavior you’re describing is not the experience we want for your MEATER SE. Closed metal grills can significantly weaken Bluetooth signal strength due to the metal lid acting as a barrier, which may lead to intermittent disconnections. While some reduction in signal is expected, the connection should still feel more dependable during normal use.

A possible resolution is to keep the charger base as close as possible to the grill, ideally within a few feet, and positioned so there are minimal obstructions between the charger and your phone. This often helps improve signal stability. If the behavior continues even with the base nearby, it may indicate reduced Bluetooth performance from the charger or probe that should be reviewed further.

Please reach out to us at support.meater.com so our team can work with you directly and help restore the reliable performance you should be getting.

Reply from MEATER

Pat, we really appreciate you sharing this. Losing connection halfway through a cook and not being able to reconnect can be incredibly surprising, this is not the experience we want for you, especially when you’re relying on it for timing and results.

This kind of behavior is often linked to a drop in communication between the probe, charger, and phone. It can happen if the signal is interrupted, if the probe isn’t maintaining a stable charge, or if the app has difficulty re-establishing the connection after a brief drop.
Keeping the charger as close as possible to the cooking area and ensuring a clear path between the probe and your phone can help improve stability. Restarting the app can also help it reconnect more reliably.

We’d really like to help you get back to a smooth and dependable experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at support.meater.com, we’ll gladly work through this with you step by step.

Thermometer completely fell apart after…

EDIT : Despite telling me to get in touch to "explore other options" I was just told they were unable to help. I suspect they just use this as standard reply to bat away negative reviews as I have seen the same reply on other reviews.

Please be very wary of using this product it is clearly very cheaply made and is potentially dangerous with strange white adhesive leaking from the product with normal and actually quite infrequent use ruining any meat you are probing. The number and regularity of 1 star reviews pointing out issues is very telling - I wish I had checked before purchasing.

-------------------------

Thermometer completely fell apart after pulling it out of a joint of meat with a strange white adhesive going everywhere meaning I had to throw the food out as had no idea if it was food safe or not.

Was 2 months out of warranty and I got the expected response that they were unable to help as it was out of warranty.

When spending £100 on a meat thermometer I would expect it to last more than 2 years with light use, and the fact their warranty only covers that says a lot about their expectation of the the quality of the product. I have a Thermapen which is coming up to 10 years old and still going strong.

Very disappointing, will buy a ThermoWorks RFX which apparently have much better build quality than Meater.

James, we really appreciate you sharing this experience. A probe coming apart during use is not expected and can understandably raise concerns, especially when it affects the food itself.

When a probe separates like that, it can indicate a failure in the outer seal or internal bonding that is designed to keep all components securely enclosed during cooking. Even over time, this isn’t the kind of performance we aim to deliver, and your expectations around durability are completely valid.

We understand you’ve already been in touch regarding the warranty. Even so, our team would be happy to take another look and explore any other options that may be available for you. Please feel free to reach out again at support.meater.com, we’ll gladly review your case further with you.

MEATER response sounded nice but….

MEATER replied as per below but having reached out as requested they still won’t help so their response is purely to try and bat away the poor feedback. AVOID buying these probes unless you are happy to pay so much for a few cooks.
Loved this whist it worked but after 17 uses it has packed up. Seems the poor quality reviews I have often read are common. Outside of warranty (two years) but something that is only used once every few weeks should be about usage not time. They can see my 17 cooks - perhaps about 30 hours. At £4 a cook I would avoid buying one of these! They had the cheek to suggest I could buy one with a 20% discount as an apology! So that means they want me to pay for 80%! Save your money and stick to a timer and basic thermometer!

Hello Jenny, it’s great to hear how much you enjoyed it while it was working, and your perspective on usage versus time is genuinely important. Getting only a limited number of cooks out of the probe is far from the experience we want anyone to have, especially when it’s been used carefully and infrequently.

When a probe stops performing after light use, it can sometimes be related to internal sensor degradation or the battery no longer maintaining a stable charge over time, which can affect overall reliability even if the total usage hours are low. In some cases, this shows up as the probe no longer powering on consistently or failing to maintain a stable connection during cooks.

We completely understand wanting long-term value from your purchase, and your comments around cost per use and overall durability are very important. Our goal is always to provide a product that holds up consistently and delivers the experience you originally enjoyed.

Our team would really like the opportunity to take another, more detailed look at your case and see what options may still be available to support you. Please feel free to reach out at support.meater.com, we’ll be glad to review everything with you and work toward a more satisfying outcome.

I don’t trust it, chicken was undercooked.

Red meats are ok but for whole chicken i really don’t trust it.
A 1.7kg chicken packet and web guidance gave 1hr 30 plus. Meteor came back with 50 minutes, last chicken i cooked skin was pasty and following meteor juices were not clear then when carving their were pink bits so it went back in the oven post carve whilst rest of food sat there waiting.

I’m ok with this for red meats as i like it pink/rare but with chicken i’m not touching it if it doesn’t look cooked.

For £130 i trust the oven timer more than the product and have a real lack of confidence in it. Only had it at xmas as a gift, if i had the receipt i’d probably ask for a refund.

Hi Richie, thanks for sharing your experience. When poultry finishes earlier than expected it is often related to probe placement or the starting temperature of the meat. For the most accurate reading the probe should be inserted so the internal sensor sits in the center of the thickest part of the chicken, roughly halfway between the minimum insertion line and the ceramic handle. If the sensor is too close to the surface it can read the hotter air around the meat and signal that the cook is complete sooner than expected. It also helps if the chicken is not extremely cold when it goes into the oven, since very cold meat can affect how the cook and rest times are calculated. Placing the probe away from bones and large pockets of fat also helps ensure the temperature reading reflects the true internal temperature. If you would like, our team can walk through probe placement and cooking setup with you to help get the results you expect. You can reach us at +1 888-407-0303 and we are happy to help. MEATER

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing this. That is not the experience we want for you. Could you let us know which MEATER model you’re using so we can guide you with the right steps? Regarding the temp difference, an instant read like Thermapen measures one internal spot at a single moment, while MEATER tracks internal and ambient temps over time and factors in cool air around the meat, moisture, probe placement, and hot or cold spots in the cooker. For connection, drops can happen if the probe is docked during a cook, if the phone or dock is out of range, or if metal or walls block the signal. If it is no longer connecting at all, we would like to help directly at +1 888 407 0303. MEATER

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your thoughts. MEATER’s time estimates are dynamic and based on real time data from the cook, so at the beginning there is limited information and the algorithm needs time to understand the size of the cut, cooking environment, and heat flow. That is why estimates can shift more in the early stages and become much more precise toward the last part of the cook. Factors like large cuts, lower temps, lid openings, and hot or cold spots in the cooker can also extend or shorten the projected time. For more predictable planning, we recommend preheating thoroughly, limiting lid openings, and inserting the probe correctly past the safety notch into the thickest part of the meat. If you would like, give us a call at +1 888 407 0303 and we can walk through your setup and cooking method together. MEATER

Unable to get refund from UK purchase and customer support phone number charges £100 for a phone call

Bought from Meater directly in the UK but had to return it due to it being a duplicated gift.
Had to pay own postage at £10 for tracked delivery but after 3 weeks no refund was received and needed to follow up with Meater.

There is no way to contact Meater via email from UK and had to call them on a +1 overseas number. A 25 minute phone call cost me £116 from UK to the phone number provided by Meater for help and support. Was promised my refund in 10 working days but didn’t happen. So had to call them again for another 25 minute call at another £116 bill chasing up my refund.

So overall it’s cost me £10 in postage and £220 in phone calls chasing up a refund that should have been refunded automatically.

Strongly advise against buying directly from Meater if you are UK based and instead buy from a UK 3rd party retailer.

Whilst customer service on the phone was good, the fact that there is no email to contact customer services and you can only call an overseas number at an extortionate cost is very poor customer services, so avoid.

Good day, Sarah. We’ve taken a look internally and can confirm that your refund was successfully processed yesterday. Once a refund is issued from our side, the timeframe for the funds to appear back in your account depends on your bank and payment provider. In most cases, this can take a few business days, though some banks may take slightly longer to finalize and post the transaction.

We completely understand how surprising this situation has been, especially given the additional postage costs and the time spent following up. That’s certainly not the kind of experience anyone expects when returning a product, and we truly appreciate your patience while this was being resolved.

For future reference, dedicated support options for UK and Ireland customers (including the correct UK contact number) can be found here:

Generally ok … but….

Generally, this product is fine. But it has two flaws. Firstly, the Bluetooth range is massively overstated. I have an Aga. The charging unit has to sit next to the Aga. If I move to my sitting room, about 6m away it loses connection. Contrast that with the stated 75m range. Nonsense. Second the remaining cook time calculation is ridiculous. On a long slow cook for pulled pork or beef it goes from 1 or 2 hours left, to ten minutes, to rest now in about 5 minutes. That algorithm needs a lot of work.

The behavior you’re describing isn’t what we expect, regarding the Bluetooth range, metal appliances like your Aga can significantly interfere with the signal, which is why the effective range can be much shorter than the stated 75 m in open-air conditions.

As for the remaining cook time, the algorithm estimates based on current probe readings, and on long, slow cooks, rapid changes can happen when the meat’s temperature accelerates toward target doneness. While this is normal under certain conditions, we understand it can be confusing.

A couple of tips to take into consideration, ensuring the probe is clean, fully charged, and the block has fresh batteries, can help improve stability. If you continue to experience an inconsistent connection, please reach out to us at support.meater.com with your MEATER model so we can review your setup and provide guidance to improve performance.
