Trying to provide validation proof was an extremly hard experience. 5 times my photo was rejected for various reasons. One even said it had a screen protector and cover on....which it didn't another one said i had sent back only, when infact i'd sent both front and back photos.

My phone suffered water damage, so I needed to make a claim through my insurance to get it replaced.
From making the claim to receiving the first replacement device took about a week. That’s not bad on paper, but because nothing really moves over the weekend it does make the whole process feel a bit longer in practice.
The claim itself involved quite a few photos and documents. They asked for the IMEI number, which is fair enough, but it had to be sent as a photo rather than a screenshot, which meant needing another device to take the picture.
They also required the original purchase confirmation email as proof of ownership. That makes sense, but it does rely on still having that email months after buying the phone (in my case around eight months later).
I also had to send the damaged phone off using my own packaging. Some insurers I’ve used in the past have provided packaging, so that was a small inconvenience.
Unfortunately when the replacement device arrived it turned out to be faulty. After reporting it I was asked to send photos of the phone powered on and off and of the back of the device. I understand checks are needed, but it does feel like an extra step considering it was the replacement that had been supplied as part of the claim.
I was then asked to return the faulty replacement so it could be inspected. There was a bit of back and forth around postage, as the initial instructions suggested sending it via Special Delivery at my own expense even though the device had arrived faulty. After raising this with them they confirmed they would reimburse the postage once I sent the receipt.
After the phone was inspected, I was contacted to ask if I was happy to receive the replacement in a different colour because my original colour wasn’t in stock. It wasn’t my first choice, but as I use a case anyway and mainly just wanted a working phone back, I agreed.
The replacement has now arrived and so far everything is working as it should. All in all the claim took just over a month from start to finish.
Summary
Process – quite a few steps and bits of admin along the way.
Speed – the first replacement arrived fairly quickly, but things took longer once the faulty replacement had to be returned and checked.
Result – the first replacement device was faulty and had to go back, but the claim was eventually resolved with a working replacement.
