Jacket Broke but now replaced
My Makalu Men's Jacket zip broke irrecoverably after 3 wears / 2 weeks after buying.
Update: issued a new jacket following sending the coat to them for fixing
Mountain Equipment Stuff
I recently bought a Mountain Equipment light waterproof jacket and a fleece. I paid more than I am used to for this type of clothing. I am pleased with the style, fit, function and colours but I am disappointed with the quality of the fleece. Despite very light casual use (certainly nothing close to mountaineering), a seam has opened up under the arm. Given the price, this is unexpected and unwelcome.
So impressed with Mountain Equipment
So impressed with Mountain Equipment! I don't often write reviews, but the customer service I received made me want to give credit where it's due.
I'm on my 3rd Mountain Equipment (ME) jacket now and they've just got better and better. The first was good, I've had a softshell for years which is still going strong and when I upgraded to the Gore-Tex Pro hardshell (Shivling) it was a whole new level. Still 100% waterproof after countless storms, and the fabric is still robust despite being screwed up in a bag, battered by storms and dragged around Scotland. Despite the durability, it's more breathable than any jacket I've ever owned. Great fit too.
I had a slight issue with the internal cord in the hood, but they fixed it quickly and neatly and I now fully expect to get many more years of use from it.
Generally very impressed with ME as a company. I only invest in gear which has been certified by FAIR WEAR and ME are a leader in the field. Social justice is paramount to me, so to have an ethical company, making decent waterproof jackets with excellent customer service... what's not to love?
I have had a 140L Mountain Equipment…
I have had a 140L Mountain Equipment kitbag for many years, way beyond the 3 year guarantee period offered by Cotswold Outdoor where it was purchased. It easily swallows my ski gear including helmet and boots and enough clothing for a week long ski trip and comes in under the 23Kg wt limit for most airlines. Recently one of the plastic tyres on the bag wheels split. Customer services were very helpful and supplied 2 new bag wheels free of charge. Great service.
Great Customer Service
My wife and I have purchased several Mountain Equipment products over the years. We're currently both wearing their Goretex jackets and as always we're very pleased with the build quality and waterproofing. My wife's jacket developed areas of delamination on the sleeves at the elbow joint where they continually bend. Her jacket has three layer Goretex Pro, so a superior quality jacket. I contacted Mountain Equipment to report the issue and explained that the jacket had light use but was over four years old. Apart from this issue it looked as new. In my opinion the issue lay with the Goretex, not Mountain Equipment themselves as every other aspect of the jacket was perfect.
After exchanging Emails, they asked if I could return the jacket for inspection. I did but wasn't overly hopeful that they could do anything with it. Yesterday, a couple of weeks later, I received an Email offering a new jacket (£450 on their website) for free! Following assessment they had decided to replace it for me. Only issue I've ever had with their products and was handled really well. I and my wife will continue to be loyal customers going forward. Exceptional Customer Service! Can't ask for more from a manufacturer.
Amazing Customer Service
I wear a lot of Mountain Equipment gear and have always found it first class and great value. Recently my three year old Changabang jacket starting soaking a bit of water into the bottom of the sleeves so I returned it for repair. Given the age of the jacket I expected to pay for it to be fixed, but no, without any debate Mountain Equipment identified a possible manufacturing fault and simply replaced the jacket. Things sometimes go wrong and despite the best quality controls, no product is perfect all of the time so for me great customer service is how a company deals with these blips and in this instance my experience was brilliant. What a great company !
another BUDGET brand overcharging the customer!
I used to think they were ok at first, I considered them a budget brand that was half decent for the price, but now they think they are a top brand and charge top brand prices, but there is no way they are anywhere near the quality or brands like RAB or Patagonia.. it’s just CRAZY
What a fantastic company
What a fantastic company! Have been wearing ME stuff for the last 15 years or so and could not be more happy withe the quality. On last trip to the alps i found the cuff straps on my Changabang jacket were starting to break. I got in touch with ME customer service also mentioning that the logo on my gilet has worn away. They repaired them all even for free. Thanks!!
Do NOT buy any gear (trust me)
I bought a few items from Mountain Equipment (pants, mittens, jacket) literally everything broke down (holes, tears, cuts etc) after 1 time use only.
For outdoor use you could better use a Hugo Boss suit instead of this use piece of crap. Dont buy/ dont use!!
Customer service is even worse!!
Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money. Mountain Equipment Rupal jacket. States hard wearing and for mountain use. Don't make me laugh . A light scrape on a wall destroyed this coat with a tiny scratch that is now permeable and when I contacted customer service I was offered a patch . The jacket was just 2 weeks old . Buy a Mammut or Berghaus instead. They probably won't post this review but I'll be posting it everywhere in places they cannot control
Good aftersales service
I bought a shivling goretex jacket. I hadn't had it long when I ripped it on barbed wire. I contacted mountain equipment who repaired it free of charge. Excellent customer service.
Bought a superflux jacket which…
Bought a superflux jacket which basically fell apart after 6 months tried contacting ME who just ignored me a very rude ignorant company who make extremely poor quality products I have a montane jacket that is two years older than the superflux jacket and it still looks like new never again you have been warned.
Litmus jacket not fit for the hills.
I've perservered with a Litmus fleece for a year but now abandoning a jacket I consider as unfit for purpose. Mainly due to the lack of windproofing and coarse weave. Even cycling with it over a tee shirt in spring is cold. I would not dare to take on a serious hike. Pile is also looking tired and shabby. Way overpriced for its quality.
Triton waterproof insulated jacket
Advertised as insulated waterproof jacket. It's well made and warm can use zips with gloves on . However soaked through in an hour during a day's persistent rain in the lakes. Breathability limited of course by insulation. Overall good for cold dry weather or light drizzle but not waterproof for more than that .
Love Mountain Equipment
I've been buying Mountain Equipment fleeces for nearly 40 years, and have been happy with everything I had.
A few months ago I got a Mountain Equipment Touchstone Fleece Jacket. I was a bit hesitant on this purchase as they don't come cheap, but I needn't have worried, it's just great.
I got it for winter use, and bought a size up on my usual size so I could wear it over the top of a lighter fleece when it's really cold, and it works a treat.
I can report that despite a fair amount of use (I'm outside 4 or 5 times a week) there have been no problems with it, and it shows little if any signs of wear.
It maintains my trust in the brand.
Further to my last review
Further to my last review, My items never turned up, did not even get the courtesy of a reason why the items. never appeared apart from an review reply 'MW are sorry I am disappointed and to email if I wanted to discuss further' I did get a refund of amount paid.
My point is MW did nothing to replace lost items or offer any sort of compensation. 44% Good reviews on this site, should signal 'Must try Harder' to senior management I would think.
Came across their promotional code on…
Came across their promotional code on social media, used this and purchased some items, Mountain Equipment took my payment and send me a confirmation email that my purchase was being processed.
ME then came back to me suggesting that their promotional code which they provided and was accepted by the website was unauthorised, that they would be cancelling my order and issuing a refund.
The refund took a several days to receive and I complained to customer services who did very little to help. Customer services requested my contact number so they could discuss my concerns, I provided this on 1st November and I have still had no contact from them.
I believe this is false advertising and 'click bait' to gain 'foot traffic' to their website. From my experience I believe this is nothing but a scam and this site shouldn't be trusted.
Very poor quality, despite the premium price
I'm sure some of Mountain Equipment's products may be good quality, but their Mission Pant (trousers) are not, they very poor quality for £140.00. After only 7 uses they are covered in bobbles and are clearly wearing quickly. The front of the thighs and crotch areas are horribly bobbled, and all they have done is a few hikes and several washes. I've owned £30 pairs of trousers that have proven to be far more hardwearing. I did contact ME, who said this rapid degradation shouldn't be the case (though of course they would say that), but also qualified that statement with by advising that their warranty "does not cover damage caused by normal wear and tear".
I will never buy another ME product and will warn others stay away and consider competing brands whose products can be relied upon.
Excellent customer service
I orderd Wellington boots and trousers and they had problems with there new warehouse and because the delivery was going to be late they sent me the Wellington boots and trousers for free was over the moon with there kindness😁👍👍👍i would totally recommend mountain warehouse
DO NOT TRUST
I have returned some items, and I paid for the delivery as they promised they will refund me but it is nearly two months I am still waiting. I am sure I will never buy from this company.
