Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 80 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain about unresponsive customer support, getting stuck on endless phone holds, and experiencing excessively long response times. People also experience major frustration regarding daily account management, unhelpful in-branch staff interactions, and unexpected payment processing delays. Many users expressed a strong desire to take their business elsewhere due to these persistent service failures. Though some customers encountered severe obstacles, a few reviewers were happy with specific staff members who provided knowledgeable and professional assistance during their visits. Consumers warmly appreciated when helpful branch managers made complex financial applications remarkably smooth and offered consistently polite service over the years.

Extremely Poor Service – Still on My House Title After 4 Years!

I transferred my mortgage from National Bank to another institution over FOUR years ago, and yet to this day, they are still listed on the title of my house. I've called multiple times, submitted the necessary documents, and followed up endlessly — but nothing has been resolved.

The customer service is a nightmare. Long wait times, unhelpful and rude agents, and zero accountability. Every time I talk to someone, they act like it's the first they're hearing about it. No follow-through, no proper case tracking — just endless back-and-forth with no solution.

This is beyond unacceptable. It’s not just bad service — it’s negligence. How can a bank fail to update a title for four years after the mortgage was paid off and transferred?!

I would never recommend National Bank to anyone. If you value your time, sanity, and financial security, stay far away.

If i could give this company a negative…

If i could give this company a negative stars i would. This company on whole is TERIBLE to deal with, from sitting on hold for a hour to hour and half because the branch employees don't want to do their jobs ( The Provencher branch in Winnipeg Manitoba)

My bank is at 6800 monk street Montreal Quebec and I…

My bank is at 6600 monk street and I closed my account because of teller called Omar
He asked me about my bad reviews on the internet and I told him what it was he laughed in my face
I cancelled my account and transferred to Desjardins bank
I told him that I was going to write a review on the internet and complain to head office about him he said go write ahead and do it like he did not care at all and I think his name was Omar
I was not happy when I got my money stolen from my bank account and the customer service representative refuse to file a report to security
Never that I got such horrible service the 20 years that I was there
This has to be the most horrible bank I have ever seen
I will be happy to start my new banking at the Desjardins bank that is only 2 blocks away from bank national
I do not have to deal with customer service representative who will not do anything when people get there money stolen from their account and tell the customer that it was their fault that their money got stolen out of their and you do not get your money back
The old customer representative retired and when my money was stolen from my account, I had no problems getting my money back, it's a shame she retired 😞
The nice thing about leaving this bank too is that I do not have to deal with a teller with a cocky attitude (Omar)
I am so happy to leave this bank
They look like they could not care less that I was leaving the bank which included the customer service representative too
My father has been going to Desjardins bank for 40 years and never complained about the service so I opened an account there
The person that is in charge of customer service at my branch, when I told her about all the complaints on the internet about her branch, she said that the only reason people say bad things about her branch it's because they have problems with anger
And there is nothing wrong with the service so that means that nothing will ever change at that branch
The rating for all branches in Canada for bank national are less then one out five

No-fee transactions not worth the aggravation

Attracted by the promise of no-fees transactions, I transferred my TFSA from Scotiabank to National Bank about a year ago. At the same time, I opened a checking account and a credit card. This all turned out to be one of my worst financial decisions.

The no-fee stock transactions worked okay although the system lacked some of the features that the Scotiabank iTrade system had.

The real reason why I got extremely pissed was how the bank handled two problems. In the first case, when I tried to take some money out of my account at the counter, the cashier went to get approval from the manager who came out of the office to ask me some questions and then refused the transaction on the grounds that my answers were incoherent, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. I couldn't take out my OWN money from my OWN account. So I turned around and went to the ATM where I took out $1000. I came back the following day to take out another $1000 from the ATM and a small amount from the counter.

Following the procedure on the bank website for complaints I wrote a detailed two-page document explaining what I believe was un-professional conduct by the bank manager. I delivered it to the director of customer relations at the bank branch. I didn't hear a thing for two weeks. No letter of acknowledgement, no file number, no nothing. I escalated the matter through the website and had to send a copy of the original complaint. I got the impression that the original complaint had been thrown out in the belief that I would just go away.

I never heard from customer service again but the bank manager did call me, not to apologize but to give me the run-around and make me feel that it was all my fault. That was the end of the matter.

I had another problem with the bank when I ordered some checks and was told that it would take one week. Now it's been nearly three weeks that I have been waiting and I realized that the whole thing ended costing me about $85.

In both cases what really made me upset was how poorly the bank handled my complaints. I'm the customer and I have a problem. Instead of solving the problem - I'm not asking for free money, I'm asking for an explanation - they basically dismissed my complaint summarily, hoping I would disappear out the door.

Well, I'm leaving this bank as soon as I can. The no-fee transactions are not worth the very poor service. Run, don't walk from this bank.

I called to get help with online…

I called to get help with online transaction that was locking me out of my account. The employee on the phone was not helpful at all in regards to my issue. So I asked for them to connect me with a supervisor for further assistance and they intentionally hung up on me.

Disgraceful & Terrible National Bank of Canada

My simple previous complaint involving several of this bank's employees being incompetent to answer one straightforward bank fee question & worse, treating me with much attitude & hang up on me when I asked to speak to their manager.

My 2 complaints being filed with 2 different National Bank employees with separate departments as a result of my series of negative experiences from NBC employees just because I asked a simple regarding their bank fees. I tried to get a reference/complaint file number or a copy of what they wrote but was denied in addition to denial for me to speak with a Supervisor/manager. I was only able to obtain the 2 names of NBC employees who were supposedly helped me to file these complaints.

And one of their employees about 10 years ago deceived me to move funds into this bank. What a National Bank of Canada. Shame! Shame! AND MORE SHAMES ON THIS BANK

If I am not incorrect, this bank is a publicly listed business, however, this bank's president & board of directors keep ignoring open letters & emails from a badly treated long term customer under their leadership & governance.

And why these top executive & directors are being so very much protected & secretive that over a dozen of bank employees said they do not know their names or contact information in addition denying my repeated requests to communicate with their managers??

WHAT A BANK WITH ALL THESE PERFECTLY WORDED POLICIES, PROTOCOLS & PROCESSES RE CUSTOMER CARE, ETC. WHICH REMAIN DECORATIONS IN THEIR OFFICES

I love this bank

I love this bank but there is a woman in the Sturgeon Falls Branch who is backing up a lie about me to do with Eastlink trying to withdraw money from an account that belonged to my mom in my name. She is backing an individual that I myself tried to do this.

I believe I just might get some proof but since I do not I cannot name her.

I would like to express my extreme…

I would like to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent experience with the Royal Bank of Canada. I made several international transfers that were returned to my account due to errors in the recipient's information. However, upon refunding the money for the four transactions I made, they deducted an excessive amount. I find this to be a disgraceful act on their part, as it is my money and it never reached its destination, it was simply returned.
I made the first transfer for 2,880 Canadian dollars and was refunded 2,647 CAD. I then sent another 2,880 and was refunded 2,603 to my account. Next, I sent 1,305 and was refunded 1,130. Finally, today I sent 4,200 and was refunded 3,847.
In other words, they deduct a portion of the money with every transaction, which I find excessive. I have essentially lost money for no reason at all, giving away 1,033 CAD. I went to the bank to seek an explanation, and an executive told me it was due to the daily conversion rate since it was an international transaction. However, when I went back again, I was given a different explanation, saying that there is an intermediary between them and the bank and that they keep the money. They are passing the buck and not providing clear information or a solution. I simply want my money back, the exact amount I sent, since the transfer was unsuccessful.

Worst bank. Go elsewhere.

This is so unacceptable and unprofessional. How does it take 3 hours to get in touch with someone from customer service. My account was locked for no reason and trying to get it unlocked takes a whole life time. I’m switching banks.

National bank charge hiden fees!

National bank's so called free fee investment is a scam, they charge 50 dollar for their dashboard fee and now they even pump up to 60 dollar! If you do not look for specific area you wont find it, after ask them to refund it they only refund one of 12 charges, what a band choice!
