Night Zookeeper
Fantastically Fun Learning
Night Zookeeper is a London-based children’s brand comprising of an online learning program, a book series and a TV mini-series. All of our products centre around the magical world of the “Night Zoo”. Our aim is to make learning fantastically fun for children aged 6 to 12 years old, and unlock their creativity in the process. Our reading and writing program has been used by over 1 million children worldwide.
Night Zookeeper was founded in 2012 by Joshua Davidson and Paul Hutson. Our e-learning product was originally launched in November 2012 as a creative drawing iOS app for kids, which went on to be recognised as one of the 50 best apps of 2013 by The Observer and The Guardian.
In 2014, we revamped the app into a web version which included more extensive writing elements, a dashboard for monitoring progress and personalised feedback from tutors. Over 1 billion words have been written by children on the site. Night Zookeeper is also used in schools by teachers worldwide in an effort to harness the power of digital learning in the classroom.
Throughout the pandemic, Night Zookeeper was able to act as a useful resource for families around the world to keep their children learning as schools were forced to close and remote learning took hold.
As of 2024, our program is used by thousands of children in several countries as a way to improve their reading and writing skills in a fantastically fun way, whether as part of a homeschool, in the classroom, as a supplementary resource, or simply a productive form of screen-time.

I am a ten-year-old home-schooled girl, and I love NZK Frends to follow fun lessons and cool games I told lots of my friends about it and now some do it after showing them. It is also very fun because it has helped me spell a lot - cutepanda20

My children are homeschooled, and we use The Night Zookeeper as a supplement to our English language arts curriculum. It fully engages my 9-year-old. It’s packed with learning material; even the games and TV series lead to education. It can be very personalized as well. I highly recommend if you have an unconventional learner. Most importantly for me, it fosters confidence in writing. Even though my children are homeschooled, they can still earn certificates for achievements! Educators give feedback to students on their writing, and it’s always helpful and uplifting. It’s very visually appealing as well, so my 5-year-old is interested in participating too. It is well worth the investment! Not to mention the client support is stellar! They are very polite and helpful! 10 stars!

We really love this program because it is engaging and fun, but not just a game with minimal learning... they still learn a ton and do actual work. My kids love it!

This program is great for kids that don't like to write, and love animals!

This isnt our first year wit h NZK and we love everything about this full english game style curriculum. The books are great, the worksheets are perfect and even all the free resources, extra worksheets to match what your child is doing in game to even creating charaand writing about them. There isnt anything we would change about it but I do love the update!

My son loves it and has gained confidence in spelling. He wrote 500 words in just the 7 day free trial and got an emailed certificate that he was so proud of! We are subscribed now and so happy that he’s learning, but it feels like a game for him. It’s helping my older daughter with spelling too, which was the main reason I got it. I’m glad I got it for both kids because my son seems to enjoy it more when I originally got it to help my daughter with 5th grade level writing.

My kids have never woke up ready to learn as much as they have since beginning nightzookeeper! It’s engaging and fun! It’s safe! And that’s the most important part. If you want to allow tech into your home but with something enriching, choose nightzookeeper!

This is my second review for Nightzookeeper, we had tried it for one month and a week and finally decided it was an excellent investment in the long run, hence shifted to annual membership. Highly recommended! My kids who did not want to creative writing at all now enjoy it! Also they offer 50% off using certain links. Definitely worth it Alhamdolillah.

My granddaughter loves using this app as part of our homeschooling curriculum! She enjoys creating her characters and the feedback she receives.

My son ABSOLUTELY loves Night Zookeeper. Everything about the program, from the colors, to the customization of his zoo dens keeps him engaged and not wanting to stop “playing”. He is 10 and we are new to homeschooling and he is very particular about his programs! His imagination and creative writing have impressed me AND him. Thanks NZK!

The children want to learn because it is so engaging. The characters are like something straight out of their own imagination and the feedback they get is so feedback even when improvements are being suggested.

I don't like the feature where you can comment on other peoples stories. I don't want a chat happening between my children and others that I don't know. Also, I noticed there was an adult who had a profile and instead of drawing they were uploading images from the internet.

My son always hated English, but this has completely changed his mind. Now, he wakes up early just for a chance to play a game and learn at the same time.

This has been a great add on to our homeschooling experience. Kids are having fun and being creative all while learning important skills

We have reluctant readers and writers and this has given them so excitement and encouragement to read and write in a fun informal way. The feedback they get on their work is super helpful too!

They make language arts fun for all my elementary age kids. Its also affordable for a single income family and didn't cost an arm and a leg to add all of my kids to my plan. The kids love it and ask to do it everyday without complaint and love the stories they get to be a part of on top of the games they play while learning.
