Night Zookeeper
Fantastically Fun Learning
Night Zookeeper is a London-based children’s brand comprising of an online learning program, a book series and a TV mini-series. All of our products centre around the magical world of the “Night Zoo”. Our aim is to make learning fantastically fun for children aged 6 to 12 years old, and unlock their creativity in the process. Our reading and writing program has been used by over 1 million children worldwide.
Night Zookeeper was founded in 2012 by Joshua Davidson and Paul Hutson. Our e-learning product was originally launched in November 2012 as a creative drawing iOS app for kids, which went on to be recognised as one of the 50 best apps of 2013 by The Observer and The Guardian.
In 2014, we revamped the app into a web version which included more extensive writing elements, a dashboard for monitoring progress and personalised feedback from tutors. Over 1 billion words have been written by children on the site. Night Zookeeper is also used in schools by teachers worldwide in an effort to harness the power of digital learning in the classroom.
Throughout the pandemic, Night Zookeeper was able to act as a useful resource for families around the world to keep their children learning as schools were forced to close and remote learning took hold.
As of 2024, our program is used by thousands of children in several countries as a way to improve their reading and writing skills in a fantastically fun way, whether as part of a homeschool, in the classroom, as a supplementary resource, or simply a productive form of screen-time.

This is our second year with NZK. We’ve completed the book series and enjoyed following along with all the learning activities. We have upgraded to the advanced tutor and this has been helpful with expanding my sons knowledge and has helped him write incredible stories!

Our child has dysgraphia, so getting her to engage with writing has always been a real challenge. Since starting with Night Zookeeper, we’ve seen a noticeable shift in her confidence and willingness to write. The creative, game-like format helps her approach writing from a completely new perspective, which has made a big difference.
When tasks feel difficult, she can use speech-to-text as support, but most of the time she doesn’t even need it. It’s been incredibly encouraging to watch her grow more independent and positive about writing.
I absolutely recommend Night Zookeeper to any family supporting a child who struggles with writing.

My 7 year old daughter loves the characters and drawings she is learning without even noticing it and my 11 year old son likes the games and that it is challenging for him

This is an excellent and safe platform, which is rare to find. I appreciate that all communication is moderated. The price is also very reasonable for everything you receive, including having a tutor review and provide feedback to your child.

We started using Night Zookeeper a few months ago. My goals were to improve spelling, increase length of writing, and expose them to more vocabulary. I am thrilled to say it has been a success so far. The kids really enjoy the platform and easily navigate through the lessons and extras. The feedback they receive for their writings is helpful and insightful, helping them improve and grow as writers.
As a parent who is not into gaming, I do find the parent side a little challenging to navigate.

We love Night Zoo Keeper. We've used it 2 different school years now. We used it the first year, as my 3rd and 5th grader transitioned to homeschool from public school only a few months before the end of the school year, and I needed a reliable English program for the kids, Night ZooKeeper has been a great find! We used it again for 4th & 6th grade (but this time as a fun addition to their homeschool curriculum) because it's helping my 4th & 6th grader with spelling confidence, but it's also been a great way for them improve their writing creativity and they laugh and smile at their creativity. It's also great for helping to grow their vocabulary. My kids enjoy NightZookeeper, and they are learning at the same time.

This program has helped give my children an excitement for writing. Also, they're able to learn spelling as well as vocabulary while enjoying it. I love how exciting and expressive it helps my children show their creativity through stories.

A great addition to our homeschooling schedule. I love that the kids feel like they are playing games rather than doing more work… but their English skills have really improved!

We use this to complement our homeschool curriculum and it’s a great way to add extra fun and excitement to learning. My kids enjoy it a lot and really are learning more.

I read that Night Zookeeper would help my daughter to practice her reading and writing skills. I was struggling to find a homeschool curriculum that did both. We have a structured, systematic, phonics & spelling program, so Night Zookeeper is a great game-based way to apply what she is learning. She enjoys the break from the textbooks. She likes that she can create characters through art. She enjoys the stories and she likes the downloadable worksheets to create her own stories. She is becoming more confident and interested in creating her own stories.

My children are excited and begging to have writing time. They are encouraged by the awards and other recognition they get on the site.

My daughter enjoys night zookeeper very much - I really like how it incorporates the key characteristics of storytelling in a subtle e.g. building characters etc.
Additionally, t reinforces ELA topics e.g. parts of speech etc.
Overall great programme but we do experience some glitches from time to time - but it does work not very long after.

The variety of learning tools is great. I appreciate the continual encouragement of creativity and the quick feedback to my child. These aspects, as a parent, are very reassuring they are getting the most out of learning through the site.

My boys seem to love this! My boys, especially my oldest who doesn’t like to write or do language arts, have learned so much so far. My oldest is using words he hasn’t used before. He is writing short stories! They seem to enjoy it. They also enjoyed the encouragement from the NightZooKeeper teachers.

The kids love it!!! Great vocabulary development and encouragement for writing. I wish there was an assessment and automated adjustments to skills being targeted based on accuracy.

My kids, ages 9 and 11, are loving Night Zookeeper! They literally ask to play it. They have used so much of their brains! They do (basic) digital art, reading, writing and correcting their writings. They play games about parts of speech, word placement, grammar, spelling and more. They receive feedback from real teachers and from fellow Zookeepers. It really is worth the investment. I'm a busy homeschooling mom and this is a great way for my kids to be learning (a lot) in a fun way while I can be near, but not having to be sitting with them every step of the way.
