Super fast service

Accidentally broke my glasses on the 21st Feb, ordered a new prescription pair (same glasses but different colour frame for ease of fitting) on 22nd and I’m wearing my new glasses as I type this review on the 28th, that’s what I call fantastic service, as a returning customer I can’t fault Opticians Direct and highly recommend them.
Thanks again for your faultless service.

Kanaka is so customer oriented

Kanaka is so customer oriented . I didn’t have an appointment for eyes test , but as I am traveling on Sunday and I am entitled for eyes check next month , she made me an appointment on the same day . The Optician is also very good , she took her time on checking every thing. I hope I will receive my glasses before Sunday . As a note was put and they promised they will deliver .

Lenses are not usable- support not there

I ordered prescription glasses from Opticians Direct and they were completely unwearable. I could not see through them properly at all.

Regardless of price or lens tier, glasses have one essential purpose: to allow the wearer to see. Selling prescription glasses that do not provide usable vision, and then refusing a refund because they are “economy” lenses, is entirely unreasonable. Cost does not remove the legal requirement for a product to be fit for purpose.

My prescription is ‑3.75, which is not high, and even if it were, that does not justify supplying glasses that cannot be used for their basic function. If a product may not be suitable for everyday vision, this must be clearly and prominently disclosed before purchase, not explained afterwards.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. Glasses that cannot be seen through clearly fail this test. This is not a change of mind.
Despite raising this immediately, Opticians Direct have refused a refund and relied on technicalities around “custom‑made goods” “basic range only for use as a second paid of glasses” rather than addressing the fact that the product does not work.

I am formally requesting an immediate full refund. If this matter is not resolved, I will continue to pursue a formal complaint with Trading Standards and other appropriate consumer protection routes.

I would strongly caution anyone, particularly those budgeting carefully or saving for glasses, that affordability should never mean accepting something that does not function.

Just to be clear as you can see from the reply which is incredibly ignorant the lens I could not see out of it was FAULTY and not fit for purpose. I am not sure why you seem to want to blame me for the issue of the lens being not fit for purpose, which is TO SEE THROUGH.

Anyway I am very glad consumers can see this. To save people having to go through what I have.

To clarify our position, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2015, customers generally have 14 days to cancel an online order. However, this right does not apply to custom-made goods. Prescription lenses fall within this exemption, as they are manufactured specifically to an individual prescription and chosen specifications.

As such:

There is no automatic right to cancel due to a change of mind.

Prescription lenses are non-refundable unless they are faulty or not as described.

A refund would not apply where a customer selects a particular lens option and later finds it unsuitable, provided it was accurately described at the point of purchase.

A refund for custom-made lenses is not applicable where the original concern relates to the frame not suiting you.

In this case, you selected the basic lens option, which is clearly described during the ordering process. These lenses are marketed as suitable for spare pairs and lower prescriptions. Your prescription is considered high within optical standards, something you would reasonably be aware of as a long-term glasses wearer.

As the lenses have been manufactured correctly in accordance with the prescription and options selected, they are not faulty and are not eligible for a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

We have offered to reassess and adjust the fitting heights to improve comfort and visual performance. However, as you have advised that your concern relates to not liking the frame itself and you have declined any adjustments, we must reiterate that the lenses remain non-refundable in line with current legislation.

Should you wish to proceed with the offered adjustments, we remain happy to assist.

Kind regards,
Opticians Direct

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this situation must be.

As confirmed at the time, your parcel was shipped via Royal Mail, who provide a 2-hour delivery window and offer options to select a neighbour or safe place for delivery. The tracking information shows the item as delivered, and we opened a claim with Royal Mail on your behalf when the issue was first raised.

Unfortunately, once a parcel is marked as delivered, we must follow Royal Mail’s investigation process and timelines, which are outside of our direct control. We appreciate that waiting for an update can be frustrating.

We would also like to clarify that our team followed standard procedure when explaining the process. It’s never our intention to come across as rude, and we’re sorry if the communication felt that way.

Please contact us directly so we can provide the latest update on the claim and continue to assist you.

Rubbish

I ordered a pair of Raybans with a simple distance lens prescription. I did see on the website that the delivery turnaround is 7-14 working days. It's been 8 working days so far so I emailed them this morning and asked for an update because I am VERY sceptical that they will be delivered in time. They advised that they can't give me any update because that's what the supplier has told them. Opticians direct must not be allowed to contact their supplier :/ What use is that to a customer? Pretty sure I am being messed around. I asked to cancel the order but had no reply. I WANT A REFUND PLEASE. EDIT:- After leaving this review I miraculously got a full refund. Won’t be back.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

As previously confirmed by our customer service team, the estimated timeframe for your order was communicated and you were kept updated accordingly.

The delivery timeframe is provided to us directly by our suppliers in Italy. This information is clearly stated on our website and is also included in your order confirmation email.

Money grabbers

I ordered some glasses February 9th. I was then contacted by the company to say the glasses I ordered were discontinued, so I picked another pair. Also discontinued, so I had to pick another. The original glasses were £100, the alternative £85. I contacted the company on Saturday to ask for updates on my order because it was a 7-14 day delivery window and they hadn’t dispatched yet. I was then told this morning I owe the company an extra £10. This didn’t make sense to me as I paid £100 for glasses then ended up picking a cheaper alternative, so surely the company actually owed me £15. I’m not paying another £10 on top of the extra £15 I was already paying for £85 glasses. The replies previously were fast and now suddenly it’s silence because I’ve requested a refund and to cancel my order. They also asked me to PayPal them the extra £10, which I found strange. I haven’t received a refund yet or even confirmation that I will receive a refund.

Hi Millie,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

I have looked into your order and can confirm that the original purchase was for a frame priced at £75.00 and lenses at £25.00, bringing the total to £100.00.

You later requested an amendment to a frame priced at £85.00. As this frame was £10.00 more expensive than the original selection, the additional £10.00 charge was correct. All updates and associated fees applied to the order were accurate following your requested change.

You subsequently spoke with a member of our customer service team who arranged for the order to be cancelled and advised that refunds typically take 3–5 working days to process. As it has not yet been 24 hours since this was actioned, the refund is still within the stated timeframe.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Opticians Direct
