Efficient to a T…

My requirements were rapidly understood, options outlined and executed in a professional and timely manner. Everything one would expect from an efficient organisation but sadly lacking in do many of the financial institutions today. Keep it up PG !!

I wish I had known about PG mutual when I qualified as a pharmacist.

I wish I had known about PG mutual when I qualified as a pharmacist because not only is this good investment in terms of savings but a fall back when I did pharmacist locum work and was unable to earn but still had regular bills to pay.

Not had to use my policy yet

Not had to use my policy yet - thankfully so cant rate how good they are to 'paying out'. Was promised gift voucher after 3 months and it has arrived.

Not as good as used to be

Not as good, reliable as in the past. I have been a member for over 10 years. So far I had to claim only twice due to short illness lasting not longer than two weeks. The first time they were understanding and paid the amount what was agreed and expected. Second time, in 2022 due to Covid I had to cancel two weeks of high end jobs. PG was fussy, asked all sorts of "evidence" and paid less then a my day's fee. Very disappointed with service - got the feeling of wasting my monthly premiums for nothing. Would be better paying into a saving account.

Our maximum level of cover is 70% of your gross annual income but claims will be based on what you set your benefit level at. We are always working on improving our service for our members and hope you have a better experience in future.

Looking for another provider for income protection

Looking for another provider for income protection. Made complaint to PG Mutual it wasn’t upheld and I contacted professional body. End 2022, start 2023.

PG mutual showed a shocking lack of compassion to a sole trader having cancer related tests and minor surgery during COVID restrictions. I was forced to take extra time off prior to surgery and biopsy due to NHS Scotland COVID restrictions. Initially PG Mutual refused to pay anything out for a 3 week loss of income.

My professional body fortunately put pressure on PG Mutual and they eventually paid out. My professional body brings them a lot of business. We initially get a discount with PG Mutual for being members of the professional body.

Following submission of this review I am further angered by the response I received from PG Mutual to my trust pilot review. It is factually inaccurate.

PG mutual refused to overturn their decision not to make a payment to me. The decision only changed when the CEO of my professional body intervened on my behalf. I had already complained and appealed through PG mutuals processes unsuccessfully.

I fed back to my professional body that I had concerns about how I was dealt with given the circumstances of my absence from work. I didn’t want colleague’s going through the same when so many of the members pay out every month to PG mutual for the income protection. My professional body shared my concern and chose to intervene on my behalf at a senior level and I’m grateful they did.

The CEO confirmed personally to me that she had required to persuade PG Mutual to change their decision. This to me is applying pressure.

Please also note that PG Mutual did not pay out for the two weeks enforced absence caused by covid restrictions imposed on me because of my ill health. I received two days income for an absence of three weeks.

My job is my only income, I’m self employed so I was very vulnerable financially and experiencing ill health. I cannot recommend a company that treats its customers like this.

We are sad to read this review and we don’t feel this fairly represents the effort we made to try and resolve your complaint.

The surgery and biopsy you refer to in your review are covered by our product as these are incapacitating conditions. Unfortunately, as you said in your review, the procedure was scheduled to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic and the NHS required you to take an extended period of time off work prior to the procedure as a precaution against potential COVID-19 infection.

As this extra time off before your procedure was not because sickness or injury had comprised your ability to work during that period, it was outside the scope of your policy.

We would like to make it clear that your professional body did not apply any pressure on PG Mutual. We were trying to find an appropriate resolution to this unfortunate set of circumstances for you, and we were happy for them to act as your representative as a means to achieving this aim.

Read and understand the terms and conditions of the Policy!…

Having been a member for many years without needing to utilise the services of the cover provided by PG Mutual it wasn't until 2023 that I realised the limitations of the scheme. Running a small sole trader professional consultancy business it wasn't until I very much needed the income protection due to a stress related illness that I was pointed toward the terms and conditions of the policy which excludes stress related illness. Whilst it is fully accepted that the policy terms and conditions exempt this illness I made the point to PG Mutual that their insurance scheme would appear to be geared towards small professional businesses and I offered the opinion that stress and mental illnesses would be one of the most likely reasons for not being fit to work. It would seem to be the case that the policy is set up with a mindset that mental illness is not a reason to be unfit to work.
I therefore cancelled my policy after nearly 9 years of membership. I would urge anyone else considering taking the insurance policy to ignore the marketing and understand the small print in terms and conditions before using this scheme.

We are pleased that the previous claim you made to us was covered by your policy, and you were paid for it.

We can also confirm that 95% of all the claims made by our members in 2023 were covered and were paid.

We hope you will reconsider PG Mutual in the future.

My income protection application was…

My income protection application was declined. Fair enough. They took ages and ignored several requested for an update though. During this time I may well have found am alternative. Consider an alternative before you apply.
