I contacted Post Office Van Insurance a few days before my payment was due because I am in financial difficulty and currently experiencing serious mental health problems. I reached out in advance asking what support or options were available because I was trying to deal with the situation responsibly before it became a problem.
I contacted them again the following week and still received no help or guidance whatsoever. Instead, I began receiving repeated emails and letters threatening cancellation of my policy unless payment was made by the 17th, along with warnings about additional charges being applied.
When I contacted them again through online chat, I was told there were no options available and was asked whether I could borrow money from someone to make the payment. Suggesting that someone who has already explained they are in financial difficulty should borrow money just to keep a policy active is completely unacceptable.
I have also attempted to contact BFSL Limited, the finance provider behind the policy, but they are extremely difficult to get hold of and I have been unable to obtain any meaningful response there either.
Instead of help, I continue to receive automated payment demands and cancellation threats despite contacting them beforehand asking for assistance. When a customer explains financial hardship and a mental health crisis and asks for help before the payment date, the expectation is support and guidance. Instead I have been ignored, threatened with cancellation, and told to borrow money. Absolutely disgraceful treatment.
totally useless and expensive.do not use
Absolute crap !
Took 20 mins to get through the usual process of filling in all the details for Car Insurance- get to the end - Sorry we can’t give you a quote ????
What is this shitty service ??
.•Useless Post Office staff - surly and snippy
•Useless Travel Insurance that is impossible to get hold of someone
•Useless Travel Card Response / Help when I hade problems the card in USA
•Useless delivery service - only Macho Men need apply !!!! And literally days between deliveries???
The Government and EP Group should just disband this bunch of overrated “ Cowboys”
Bloody useless!!
Appalling service. My daughter was on our policy as a learner. When she passed her test, I contacted them and they wanted the equivalent of £4000 more on an annual basis, and refused to allow me even ten minutes to decide before they’d charge me £400 to remove her from the policy (which surely makes no sense? How does removing a driver cost you more?) “Shannon” was the agent apparently, who I notice has been mentioned already on here. I’ll never give Post Office insurance another penny of my money.
They auto renewed my policy which I did not want, I could not cancel online, tried a few times on the phone but no one answered. So I stopped them taking payment from my bank account via my bank. And now they are chasing me for money and fines.
Not sure what they are doing is legal but it’s disgusting
Automated phone system has you going round in circles. When you do get someone they tell you it's another department and the call is then dropped while they fail to transfer you. Then you finally get through and the connection is intermittent. Eventually you get told to speak to the underwriters, who pass you back to Post Office. Utter shambles. Then get told 28 day guaranteed replacement car period won't be extended, even though insurer has had car for over a fortnight and has done precisely nothing. Do not touch Post Office with a bargepole; "absolutely useless" is being far too kind to them.
I don't fully understand why so low. Been with these guys now for 1-2 year . Even though I haven't had to use their services . But the last 4 months I've been in really money problems caused by our wonderful government.
I also suffer from mental health which isn't great at the moment. But compared to other companies (Vodafone) They have gone out of their way to help!! Plus give a bit a time to talk (which helps alot)!!.
Renewal is coming and the price has gone up by £1,20 which is on my mind great value for my package and even more for a team so friendly and willing do what ever they can to help
A special thanks to Rachel and Clive both has helped or more then just sorting out payment but made me smile which is a hard thing to do at the moment. So if any post office boss that cover there office (Sunderland I think). Please give them a thank you for me please. They really don't know how much they help/ed
Pisspoor.
They came up with a good quote back in Feb 2025 which I accepted.
Then in April 2025 I had someone reverse into my car in a car park, so I called to inform them of a possible claim against me. I told them I wouldn't be claiming, just repairing minor damage on my vehicle. They said OK, end of conversation.
Next day I had a call from a hiab driver saying he had been told to come and take my car to scrap it and he was 20 minutes away! So I had to call post office AGAIN to emphasise no claim proceeding, my car was not being scrapped. This status was then confirmed by letter two weeks later.
This week I am buying a new car so tried to amend the vehicle details on their website.
Nothing, & I mean nothing worked.
Took me 4 attempts to log in. Couldn't edit any details, couldn't even use the chat bot because that had a "no entry" sign in the text box.
So I phoned them... They wanted me to take out 12 months insurance for the new car, and said it would cost 4 times the previous cover... From £360 up to over £1200. They said my claim meant the price had gone up, despite me having protected NCD.
Don't use them, use LITERALLY anybody else.
Just tried to update my details on my car insurance to reflect getting married - same named driver (my now husband), everything the same. And they have tried to inflate the policy cost by over 10%. Absolutely outrageous - "Shannon" advised me that this is all perfectly normal - but I have never come across such horrific increases (way above any reasonable admin fee). So I say avoid at all costs - the true test of a company is when you have cause to need something and Post Office fails, fails, fails - avoid, avoid, avoid and do not be tempted by initial cheaper quotes as you may pay a heavy price should you need to make inane changes
No suprise bad reviews! I took out insurance recently, they took £416, but they badgered me constantly to supply no claims proof despite stating they use your data! They gave me a 2 day warning before the threat of cancelling! So I had to go to saga ( very good) the post office now want £93 for the 10 days I was insured! Avoid!!!!!
Post office car and van insurance is absolutely awful. The customer service is shocking, they lie, they fob you off and they steal money from your account without you permission and without reason.
Then they make promises to put it right and fail to do that.
DO NOT!! Use this company, they will steal from you.
They are criminals and liars.
Very disappointed with all the fees.
I have never been charged to change a registration by any other insurer. Post Office charge £20.
I applied to change my vehicle over ready to collect my new car a few days later, only for it to not be ready. So they told me they couldn't stop the change. I had to pay £20 to change it back over (even though I was still on the original car policy at the time), then £20 to change it back to the new car again, having already paid £20 to change it to the new car the first time around. There was no give. Nobody would waive any of those fees.
Infuriating.
I thought what they were offering me originally was good, free keyring if you lose your keys etc. Little bits like that.
My monthly payment was £33. After changing to my new car (smaller engine, newer vehicle, no mods, very basic car) it went up to £111 for the two remaining months of the policy. I wouldn't move as did't want to lose my years no claims for the sake of 2 months.
Would not recommend or use again.
Read the small print as they charge you £40 for the slightest thing , we changed bank accounts so some confusion with payment which they charged us , we had to cancel policy with 2 months remaining as we are emigrating , another charge of £43 , disgraceful and the two agents I have dealt with were very stern and unfriendly . Rip off Britain
Happily took an annual payment for my VW Transporter.
At the end of the term, I didn’t know that the policy automatically renews so I didn’t worry about it. The vehicle is now off road. They told me that they sent a reminder email but this must have gone into my junk folder. Now they are demanding £152 because I have “cancelled the policy before the end - it’s in our terms and conditions.” Curiously enough, they PHONED me to tell me that. This is extortion but there is nothing I can do.
Do not ever use the Post Office for anything.
Shocking service after car was stolen I wouldn’t trust them with a bike
