Thank you for leaving a review mentioning our range of organic seed potatoes and their quality.

I'd like to address your comments about being expensive and late in the season to buy. Our prices remain the same throughout the season and we do not put them up if other places are sold out (we have late season potatoes and these will have a premium when we start to see these in June).

I had a look at your order and you ordered several varieties, getting two x 6 tuber nets of each variety. For info, we also sell in 1kg nets and this would be cheaper per tuber. You can pick the net size on a drop-down menu at checkout.

As you have mentioned your varieties are organic and as the leading grower and supplier of organic seed potatoes in the UK, we know that our prices are in line with other retailers for all varieties. Remember - our prices include delivery so can appear more expensive.

This is our busiest period just now and so you certainly are not late in purchasing your seed potatoes.

Yield can be affected by many things (weather, blight and beasties!) and we're here to help at all stages. Please let us know if you have any questions over the growing period by email or by tagging us on social media.

Chits away! I hope you get a great potato patch

Potatoes were delivered very quickly…

Potatoes were delivered very quickly and were in good condition. I expected more actual potatoes though but hey … they’re ‘heritage’, wish the price was too 😂

Thank you for your review highlighting our quick delivery and good quality.

However, I am not sure what you mean when you say that you "expected more actual potatoes" I have looked at your order and you bought 2 x 6 tuber nets. Did you get 12 tubers or were some missing? Was the parcel damaged? If so, please email amy@potatohouse.co.uk and we can look into this for you.

We sell most of our seed potatoes in a variety of pack sizes: 6 tubers/1kg/10kg/25kg. The customer picks the size via a drop-down menu on the variety page. We advise that the customer checks this on their confirmation note.

We're here all season to help you - heritage potatoes need no extra care and we're sure you will get a great harvest.

Chits away!

I have nothing but praise for this…

I have nothing but praise for this company. They provide fantastic seed potatoes and their service is second to none. I only buy a few as I grow them for myself - I have been buying from them for 4 years now. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They have 40 varieties on sale at the moment and demand is high. Highly recommended.

Service and delivery very good. Product questionable.

Service and delivery very good. Rather expensive for five tubers £7.20 inc Delivery. Variety Anya.
Quality of potatoes ordered questionable. Five very small tubers. The smallest tuber is 35 mm at its longest comparable to the tip of an adult thumb. Longest tuber 65mm comparable to an adult middle finger. Supplied by Albert Bartlett via Potato house.

Hi there
It is unfortunate that your expectations do not coincide with the rules that we follow.

The price is as you say - including delivery.

We go over the size of seed tubers on a FAQ and a tab on each variety. Seed Potatoes are generally much smaller than the eating equivalent. Unless otherwise stated, we sell our potatoes as 35mm-55mm which is the industry standard across the UK. The legal limit for UK seed potatoes is 25mm.

We ask the following at checkout:

"Have you read all the information in the tabs on each variety regarding size of tubers and other information? Expectations regarding tuber size of Seed Potatoes, along with the amount of cosmetic imperfections which is permitted vary considerably from one customer to the next and we don’t want to disappoint."

Yet even with the information on our FAQ and tabs on each variety and the question at checkout we know that we will disappoint some people as they have not read this.

Customers’ expectations of what size a seed potato should be can be very different. Some customers like large potatoes to cut and others like the smallest possible tubers. We have 90 different varieties in 4 different net sizes and do not do any further grading due to the work involved and the storage space in our store. If we did do further grading, the price would go up for all our customers.

We abide by the rules set in The Seed Potatoes (Scotland) Regulations 2015 which state a seed potato in the UK needs to be 25mm

If you think that we have sold tubers smaller than we state we do, please put against a ruler and send to amy@potatohouse.co.uk and we'll take a look. Your name / order number is not here so I can't look at your order, but as I have not had any correspondence with anyone all season regarding Anya I don't think you have contacted us about this.

As you have not mentioned any rots or damaged tubers I can guarantee that the quality of the tubers is not questionable and will produce a fantastic harvest (beasties and blight permitting). Our trusted suppliers need to keep to the same stringent rules that we do. All seed potatoes over 35mm (and indeed 25mm) will produce an excellent crop. We're here to help all season and can answer any questions you may have.

Have you grown Anya before? It is a cracking spud and I am looking forward to seeing how you get on.

The best place to buy seed potatoes

I have been recommending the Potato House to all my gardening friends ever since I discovered them. Always loads of choice, interesting organic and heritage varieties, lots of helpful advice and tips, and great service. I’ve learned to order early to ensure I can get the varieties I want but with the convenience of delayed delivery it’s a doddle!

Lack of Choice

I've been looking for seed potatoes since November 2024, so I could get ahead with planting out my potatoes at the right time of year. However there seems to be very little if any stock available, leaving very little if any choice on what seed potatoes to buy.
Every item seems to be unavailable for the currant year, delay due to rebag or that their coming soon. I really don't know how a company can run when there's no stock available to turn a profit. For me I'd go back to the shops, at least their more reliable. How rude this company is saying have I got the right company. YES I have got the right company. Over 2 years now and still none of the seed potatoes I look for are available. I saw the full range of stock and none of it was available when I started looking in November and nothing has changed with their availability to this day. I just don't think the company is reliable enough for the customer and to ensure that the regulars keep coming back.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review - however I am completely stumped with it! Serious question - are you reviewing the correct company?

We start to sell our seed potatoes in October each year and have over 80 varieties. If you started to look in November you would have seen the entire range.

We start to dispatch in December, and also offer a delayed delivery service so you can buy your seed potatoes in in the autumn for delivery at any point in the spring.

You can go on stock alerts for all our varieties so you will know when we start to sell in the autumn (or if we are re-bagging a variety in the spring)

We are getting around 100 orders a day at the moment and so we certainly have lots of stock. We have sold out of some of our rarer/heritage varieties and this is the usual time that we start to sell out. We grow many varieties in small quantities.

We sell a seasonal product from late autumn till late spring and we are at our busiest time now.

Notes for stock are explained on a tab on each variety and our FAQ

Coming soon - is for our potatoes to eat varieties. No seed potato has that on it at the moment.

Delay to rebag - means just that - our store are working hard to get varieties rebagged - you can go on the stock alerts for any of these varieties.

Unavailable for the current year means just that - we keep our entire range up so that customers know that varieties could be available in the following years and go on stock alerts - lots of people plan ahead. (we have around 400 people on our stock alerts for varieties that are not available this year)

We have well over 40 varieties available NOW. If you put the "in stock filter on" you will see this.

42 varieties to pick from is an incredible place to be mid season! We're sure that you will find some thing that you like - why don't you drop us a line and we can help you with varieties. Perhaps shops have more choice? Very few have that many even at the start of the season, let alone now!

https://www.potatohouse.co.uk/product-category/all-potatoes/?pr_stock=instock&all_products_filtering=1

Don't worry about the timings - this is prime time to be starting to think about your veg patch.

We're looking forward to seeing what you grow in 2025

My definition of rude is to leave a 1* review which contains false information on a public forum.

Your definition of rude is that I correct this information.

We are proud of our range which is one of the largest in the UK. We had over 80 varieties for our customers this year and they were all available in the autumn and we started to sell out of some in January.

You are conflating 2 different issues - one our range and two we don't have particular varieties that you are looking for within that selection.

What is it that you wish to grow? As stated we do not have all our range every year and so if something stated "not available for 2024-25" then obviously the stock is not going to change. Potatoes are grown, not manufactured.

We would love to supply every single variety every year but we simply do not have the space to do so.

Our regular customers are delighted with our range of 80+ seed potatoes in the autumn and the fact that we still have over 40 varieties available for you to grow right now.

You can go on stock alerts for any variety of seed potatoes and we will send you an email when they are available to purchase for 2026 (assuming that we grow it and it passes inspection)

Please feel free to continue this conversation on Facebook letting me know what variety you are looking for - I can perhaps guide to to one of our colleagues in the potato industry who may be growing the variety that you are looking for this year. As I don't know what you are looking for, I can't suggest anything.

Have a lovely weekend - sun is out. Get the spuds chitting.

Caring business and great selection

I don’t normally write reviews, but I’ve used Potato House for a couple of years now and I’m very impressed. They give a lovely personal service and have been really quick to amend an order after I put the wrong delivery date in! They have a great selection of spuds - last year I tried Cara and Swift and was pleased with both (not sure what a normal yield is but we harvested 26 kg of Cara from 2 kg of seed potatoes which feels pretty good). Highly recommend!

The Potato House offers outstanding choice, price and service.

The Potato House offers an exceptionally wide range of seed potato types, mostly organically grown. It is possible to buy in very small quantities to suit smaller gardens or people wanting to experiment with different types. Pricing is very keen as it includes delivery and relatively small bulk orders attract a worthwhile discount. Finally, it offers to deliver in the customer's chosen week. After our own experience of the great choice, pricing and service, we have arranged group bulk-orders for our allotment site for two years now and strongly recommend.

Order not received / no customer service

I ordered some potato bags to arrive asap and I’m still waiting - a month after I ordered them. I emailed to let them know I needed them asap as I was moving house. I got a reply to say my email would be looked at but not to email again as I would ‘loose my place’. I phoned but got a voicemail to say the phone wasn’t always manned so left a message. I’m now moving house in 2 days - no bags, no reponse. Now I would like a refund… what are the chances of that happening?!

Hi Lorna
There seems to be a crossed wire here and I am sorry if you are feeling ignored and that you think your email was not answered.

You ordered on 19th October and we state at check out and on your confirmation email that we will start to dispatch in December.

You emailed us on 3rd November wondering where your order was. Our auto reply states that we will reply within 2 days. I replied on 3rd November. Perhaps this has gone to junk? It certainly is in our sent items. Please check your junk settings and ask your email provider if you are not sure how to add an email to the safe list.

I stated in that email we could change the delivery to the new address.

After your email and feedback, we realised that people ordering just grow bags in the autumn may want them earlier than our December date. We always strive to improve our service and thanks to your message, I have since put a note on all the grow bag product pages to say:

"Note if buying grow bags in the autumn.
If your order just has grow bags we can dispatch immediately. Please email us if you would like us to do that. They will be dispatched in December when we start to dispatch if we don’t hear from you. If you also have seed potatoes in your order, the bags will be dispatched when you ask us to dispatch the seed potatoes."

As you have not yet asked for a refund or for the order to be sent to your new address, I have not done anything as I know how stressful moving can be. I did not send the order as I did not want it to be lost if you were moving (your email did not mention the move date, just that you were moving). There is a note on your order to check delivery address prior to sending.

The message on our voice mail states that we prefer to have everything on email and NOT to leave a message, as only one person handles the requests. This way, we are sure that we are dealing with queries in order, and are not distracted by the phone ringing when in the middle of answering another question or doing a financial transaction. We are a small company and don't have a large 24hr customer service team.

Please email amy@potatohouse.co.uk with your new address or to request a refund. Please note that we need correspondence to our email address about refunds, and I can't take the request you make above as official.

All refund requests are dealt with within 48 hours. Please note as you paid by PayPal, you have security with them and are welcome to take it further if your request is not honoured. So the chances are very high that your refund will happen.

If you reply to the order confirmation note as you did on 3rd November that would be fine.

Thank you for your order, I hope the move goes well.
