Placed an order (product says ships in 5 - 7 days) and paid. 3 days after it was supposed to ship I get an email saying there is a problem at the supplier but they have confirmed stock of a more expensive alternative. Against my better judgement I agreed. They 5 - 7 days started all over again. You would think since they had let a customer down that they would make an effort to expedite the order but alas, no. It's now two weeks after the second 5 -7 days and after I asked them where my order was they say the supplier has no stock of the item they confirmed the supplier has stock of.
So I requested a refund which is no in a "Refund Queue". Basically a scam to "borrow" money from me interest free for 2 - 3 months.

In the interest of all fairness and good customer care, bear in mind that we did choose to support your business unbeknown to us that you were experiencing delays with receiving your shipments from overseas. Our initial order was placed in late March 2022, and a subsequent order a few days later. We promptly made both payments into your account.
We did nevertheless, wait patiently for over a month and upon inquiry as to the time frame of receiving of our order, we received the answer of "shipment delays". You do not have any Tracking or System to follow Order updates?
Had we not inquired about ETA of our order with you, you would not have informed us of the long wait ahead and we would have been waiting indefinitely. Even when we inquired about the ETA your answer was not definite.
Surely you could have made mention of this at the time of order to allow to make an educated decision and be prepared for long waiting periods?
We trust you will not inconvenience us any further and release our funds urgently so that we can proceed to make alternate arrangements to acquire our goods elsewhere.
We trust you will go the extra mile in customer service and retain our future patronage.

Terrible service by this company. No customer service. We spent R11000 on text books and still waiting after 2 months. Only contactable via e mail. We are a business school and reply on text books for our curriculum delivery.
RARU is blatantly fraudulent
There is absolutely no credibility with this operation. I ordered DVDs in December 2021. Delivery was meant to be on 4th Feb 22. I cancelled and since then have been receiving all kinds of promises ALL OF WHICH ARE BLATANT LIES. DO NOT ORDER OR GIVE THESE CRIMINALS A CENT. I just wish they would sue me for libel, so that I can look them in the face.

Raru.co.za is an online commerce site founded by Neil Smith, Waine Smith and Jose Pereira, founders of the 2002 online shopping start-up, Take-2 (currently branded Takealot).
Raru used to operate quite well, but since around 2019, they seem to have become a late refund/no refund scam in order to stay afloat. If you look at the reviews on HelloPeter you will see that hundreds of people have been promised refunds that they never get.
In my personal experience with them, I am utterly appalled at the service I have received. I placed an order on 10 Jan for a book (an expensive one, the order was over a thousand rand) which was meant to ship on 21 Feb. On 28 Feb, after no update, I contacted them, and they said they were having supplier issues.
More silence, then I contacted them again on 14th March to ask for an update. They said that they'd like to cancel my order, as they cannot find an alternative supplier. Disappointing, but okay.
They then credited my RARU account with the money. I pointed out that I want this refund processed to my card. They said that this can take up to 15 business days to process, and the credit is just a placeholder.
After 15 business days, still no refund. I laid a complaint with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman, but have not heard back. I have repeatedly contacted them, and they keep promising that my refund is on its way.
Last week, 11 April, almost a full month after the cancellation of my order, they sent me a form to fill in, for where the refund must go (even though they have been promising me I would be refunded long before this, not sure how they were meant to refund me without this info). I filled it out. On their website, on my account, it keeps saying "Credit Refunded" and then a few days later it says "Refund could not be processed", and then it is cancelled. On the 14th they again promised me my refund has been completed, however I have received no funds.
Raru is earning interest on all these late or never completed refunds, probably to stay afloat, hoping that people will find it too much admin and eventually give up fighting with them.
Expected delivery times from RARU
RARU did well to communicate with the client regarding expected delays. Our products was in good order and well packaged.
But if you expect speedy service and do not want to wait weeks for your order, I would recommend using another shopping platform.
I will think twice before using RARU again due to the delay in receiving ordered goods.

Wow this company is a mess.Excuses and covid card played.Also they wanna credit account not refund.Best to stay away they trap customers.If a company cant deliver u should get money back.Cant even tell u where shipment is.Definitely the worst online store in South Africa.
I ordered Eden's Exiles
I ordered Eden's Exiles , order no. J6DNMH9 on 18 March 2022. Delivery promised to be within a week, 25 March 2022. Now suddenly it will be delivered by 18 April 2022. If I knew that RARU didn't have the book in stock, I would have ordered it from Takealot. DO NOT ADVERTISE SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T HAVE IN STOCK, OR HAVE TO SOURCE IT BEFORE YOU CAN DELIVER THE PRODUCT. This is the basic 101 rule of business. You are tarnishing the name of online business. Disgusting!
Don't order from raru
I made an order end of November for my husbands Xmas present. After I queried I heard there's a delay... Querie ftwr querie now covid is getting the blame and there's a backlog. Now I wan full refund as I ordered one item from takealot a week ago and it's ready to collect. Same item they claim is in backlog due to covid. Now my emails are just ignored. Will never order again but I want my money back now they are ignoring my emails

Like the rest of you guys. I have been ordering 2 vinyl as a christmas present for my husband. They gave me a time of 20 working day to received it, so it was perfect timing.......Then when looking at the statut of my order, it suddenly appeared that delivery will not be before end of januray.....When in early february, I decided to cancel my order and to get a refund as I was not going to wait many months to get a christmas present. I am now battling with them to get my refund!!!!! I am in the queue they said and after beeing processed it will be another 15 days.......
As it seems that it is really a scam companies, maybe not even legal, I am about to take legal advice and further action if needed be. Please, If you wish to associate with me to get this fraud company down, send me a message.
RARU Online Shopping is A TOTAL SCAM!
On 31st December 2021, I ordered book online from the RARU online store. On the 3rd I received an out of stock notification. I have since then been waiting for a refund, all I get is a feeble reply that my refund is in for processing. It has now been 22 working days and no refund. Regarding the rest of my order - its a total disaster as no status update or information is given after countless requests. Stay AWAY from this online retailer - they are scam artists!!! It's been taking so long to get any reply out of them, and if you do, its feeble pathetic excuses. Out of principal, I am now in the process of taking legal action of getting my own back.

Raru claims to have stock of certain items when they dont. They say they cant answer their phones because of covid which is completely nonsensical. It takes them 30 working days to issue a refund if you get one at all. It looks like their business model is earning interest on money they received and then stalling as long as possible to issue a refund.

I bought two vinyl records that weren't available anywhere else in SA yet. I placed the order on the 30th of October 2021. The order was originally supposed to arrive on the 20th of December 2021. I received no updates or notifications throughout this time and even when the order was "late" I had no feedback. I eventually sent an email to them to find out what was happening with the order and they replied with "We don't know when your order will be delivered". I waited another two weeks before sending a follow-up email to cancel the order after waiting more than two months for the order already, only to be informed by their "customer service" that it takes 15 working days to receive a refund, HOWEVER, they have a backlog and it will take even longer to complete. Even after asking them on multiple emails to escalate the issue to a manager to resolve it quicker, I was basically told to wait my turn. So essentially they have taken my money and will pay it back when they feel like it.
I never write reviews, but this type of service is unacceptable and I have never been this frustrated in my life. If I could give a rating lower than 1 star I would,

waiting 6 months for an order
I placed and order in June and they stipulated 15 days delivery time. I waited till August to contact them to find out the delay and they said that the package would be in within the month. In September the same excuse happened and I started the return/refund process. It is now almost the end of November and I don't have my products or a refund.
Pathetic customer service: 2 months for a refund
2 months to execute a refund, on a credit card purchase. Truly pathetic. As a long-time customer, it is truly sad to see how poor this company has become.
RARU EXTREMELY LONG REFUND PROCESS
Even if you see it on sale for a few hundred rand cheaper on Raru, rather go with your gut & buy it on Loot, Takealot or even Makro. Heck, even Amazon if you really need it.
I placed an order, RCO-FWN-AW2, & it was marked out of stock the next day. Meaning that I should have my money refunded to me. Most companies take 3 to 5 working days for it to reflect. Raru take 15 working days for it to reflect!?!
The order was marked out of stock on 17 Sept 2021 and today, 13 Oct 2021, I still have not receive my refund!!
And no, I don't want the store credit.
