I was considering joining a gym but when I saw the advert and everything you need to start growing your own organic produce it was a no brainer....
Great site manager, always happy to help and offer advice.
I love it there 🥬🥕🥒
Excellent - Sugar Loaf Fields
Excellent initiative and Dave the site manager at Sugar Loaf Fields will go out of his way to help anyone. Roots have received some negative press which made me hesitant to join but they’ve really made it a mission to make sure people have great community growing spaces, which with current council waiting lists isn’t going to improve any time soon! I noticed a lot of the comments stating they are a profit making company…if a company can make profit and help a community in the process not sure what the issue is? Surely much better than a company making profits and damaging communities & public health?
Free workshops
Roots have come up with another fabulous workshop- a foraging walk in countryside starting and ending at the plot. The one I joined started at The Sugar Loaf site. As usual the site Manager was there to introduce us to Owen, the foraging group leader. All workshops are free and very informative. Thank you Roots for providing them

The Sugar Loaf Lane plots are a wonderful place to spend time. A fabulous community, full of advice and help for 1st time gardeners like myself. Dave the site manager is always available for a chat, even though he is a busy man keeping the site looking as brilliant as it does. One of my better decisions signing up!
A very happy member
I have only been a member of the Roots community for a few months but I'm absolutely loving it. I'm so glad I signed up. I got so much more than an allotment, I get seeds and plug pants, workshops, all the tools I need and I'm part of a fabulous helpful community that is so full of advice and support for one another. The Roots team are genuinely passionate about what they do, and Dave from Sugar Loaf is full of knowledge and always happy to help.
Sugar loaf fields
Roots at sugar loaf fields in Stourbridge is such a welcoming place. I started my patch a couple of months ago and I have learned so much in that time already. Dave, the site manager is a wealth of knowledge and so friendly and approachable too. I definitely recommend Roots.

Roots allotment Stourbridge
Roots allotment Stourbridge, fab place!! Great community spirit, plenty of onsite events and learning sessions plus the online portal! Great what’s app chat group offering tips and support! Site Manager Dave is great for support and advice and keeping everything ship shape! Brilliant place!!
Roots Allotments disappointingly…
Roots Allotments disappointingly neglects the natural biodiversity of the meadow. Instead of fostering a diverse ecosystem, they prioritize monoculture and use excessive pesticides, eradicating essential wildflowers and insect habitats. Their landscaping choices favor non-native plants, further disrupting local wildlife. Attempts to discuss sustainable practices were met with indifference. For those valuing conservation, consider allotments elsewhere that prioritize and support biodiversity.
Roots are killing natural wildlife
Roots don’t care about nature - they’ve already killed an innocent deer who used to enjoy the fields. Greenwashing, avoid avoid avoid!
Fabulous community
Fabulous community, absolutely love sugar loaf fields and the vibe is amazing. Can't believe the value for money and all the seeds and plug plants we get included. We've been her since last early September, everyone is extremely friendly and Dave, the site manager, is very knowledgeable and always willing to help and offer great advice.
I can't recommend this place enough, if you're thinking of joining don't give it a second thought get in while you still can!
What a wonderful community
What a wonderful community! All the tools, advice and seeds/ plug plants you could ever need to have a thriving allotment surrounded by wonderful, likeminded people! 🌱
What an asset to Stourbridge
I have wanted an allotment for so long, the council one local to me had a long waiting list and had endemic mares tail so would be problematic. Along came Roots, I nearly missed out but my friend told me. Did the online thing, waited a bit then saw the patch manager there, No Dig Dave. He sorted it all and now after four of having my patch I am getting g my first produce. The support is amazing from educational advice on growing, plant and seed drops that coincide with the growing season, a generous car park and tools on site which are all safely kept in a locked shed. There is a loo there if you want d to spend the day and a fab tipi and benches for community events. Dogs are welcome if on a lead and it is just such a positive and enriching experience I can't thank Roots and particularly Dave enough.

Just got my allotment with Root knowing that I'm in good hands if I need help with anything. Was shown around and then had a induction with a great guy called No Dig Dave, Dave was so knowledgeable and offered help when ever I needed it. Dave was very obserbant and took into account my disability while we walk around. 5 star from me
Grow your own veg
Since I joined roots, I have been able to grow my own food, meet a nice community, learned how to grow vegetables, and I have been enjoying the community workshops.
The idea of allotments is great one
The idea of allotments is great one. Everyone should have access to a place for growing their own produce.
That's the philosophy that Roots have exploited for their own financial gain while at the same time riding roughshod over any concerns for the natural environment.
Please be warned; if you rent a plot from them the only thing you are likely to grow are their profits.
There is a chance that by their actions they may encourage local authorities to increase charges for traditional council allotments so you will also be affecting existing growers.
Don't be fooled, this is not for your benefit or the good of the planet or the natural world, It's all about lining their pockets.
My experience of roots is their hiding…
My experience of roots is their hiding any negative comments about their destruction of a wildlife meadow that supports endangered species and the unnecessary death of deer caught up in their shoddy fencing. There’s No car park, nor any nearby parking, no toilet facilities, no seating area and the “Bristol” site not only isn’t in Bristol (it’s in Somerset) it’s not even on a main bus route. With no car park that’s a bit of a hike.
I would give them zero stars if I…
I would give them zero stars if I could.
For the destruction of a valuable wildlife environment in Abbots Leigh - no stars
For not abiding by planning permission laws - no stars
For putting profit over the environment - no stars
For lack of civility and not working with the local community - no stars
For endangering local species eg skylarks, deer, insects and other species reliant on wild meadow - no stars
This is the wrong place for this kind of development and because of their approach I would not support their work in any environment anywhere.
