It's been an amazing couple of years that we've had our allotment patch with Roots at Meadow Hill. Before we thought we couldn't grow anything, and now we happily harvest and eat our own delicio... See more

Great support from Loz at the Telford site
I visited the Telford, Muxton site yesterday to get more info on the plots and how the subscription works. A really helpful guy, Loz, went through all of the arrangements and was very personable and clear. I'm now considering getting a plot when one becomes available.
Definitely recommend!
Absolutely love Roots! I have a double plot (soon to be expanded!) and it's my sanctuary! Had loads of produce last year, everything you need is provided, from tools and equipment to top soil, bark and manure, just bring some gloves and wellies and you're off! Highly recommend this place for people who need an escape, a fully functioning allotment site with everything provided for no start-up costs and a small monthly subscription, it's an absolute no-brainer! Come join us!
Fantastic
Couldn’t rate Roots more highly, Catherine at Newbottle Fields and Kam have gone above and beyond in being helpful and finding the right plot for me and are always so cheerful. The site is beautiful with community and no dig at the heart, with a fantastic range of tools, compost, seeds and plug plants and manure all free to use. Couldn’t recommend more highly

I’ve absolutely loved my time with Roots and am only stepping away due to a move. I cannot recommend this highly enough for anyone wanting to explore growing, but without the commitment or waiting list of a council allotment. Dave, the site manager at Stourbridge, is one of the most passionate and enthusiastic individuals I’ve ever met. Always a friendly face and willing to help those in need.
Roots are lucky to have Coxy!
So long Sugar Loafers... I am leaving Roots to head off to pastures new after being a member for two years. But I can't go without saying a MASSIVE thank you and farewell to our wonderful site manager at Sugar Loaf Fields, Dave Cox. He is so pleasant, motivating, helpful and accommodating and is truly the HEART of the thriving growing community in Stourbridge. You are a great bloke Coxy - and in the perfect job! Roots are lucky to have you! Wishing you all the best for the future and plenty of joyful harvests for everyone. Jane Thomas
We had a viewing booked for the…
We had a viewing booked for the Daffodil allotments in Chester today. We travelled with our children who want to start growing their own fruit and veg. We arrived a little bit early and nobody turned up. We tried to contact anyone from the website and got no replies. We also got stuck trying to leave the site as the grounds were so unkept and muddy. The car was completely stuck and a van which attended the grounds just ignored us and drive past. The fact nobody came to meet us or let us know the appointment was cancelled is a poor first impression. The site looked nothing like the pictures online and actually looked more of a waste ground than an allotment.

More than just a veg plot
I had seen rootsallotment advertised on social media repeatedly and read many people comment that it was too expensive, this put me off and so it took me a while before I finally decided to take the plunge and give it a go as it's not practical for me to grow at home due to my pets "trying to help". And I've no regrets. For your membership not only do you get a plot thats ready to go, seeds to start you off, annual compost top up and all the practical things needed to start growing, but most of all you get an amazing site manager in Loz. From the very first introduction meeting he makes you feel extremely welcome and at ease with his kind, relaxed, funny, and friendly manner. Not only is he helpful and informative where growing and maintaining your plot is concerned, he works very hard keeping everything onsite in check and making improvements. He creates a lovely community atmosphere which makes it a complete pleasure to join in and bring other family members along to events he organises. I always leave the site with a smile even if the weather isn't always as happy. Thank you Loz for all your time and effort, it is very very much appreciated
Roots Allotment - Muxton Meadows
Roots Allotment in Muxton is a fantastic place for anyone who enjoys growing their own produce or spending quality time outdoors. The site is well maintained, thoughtfully laid out, and has a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
A special mention goes to Loz, who does a great job helping keep everything organised and running smoothly. His approachability and commitment really show and add to the strong sense of community across the allotment.
It’s a peaceful, relaxing space with well-kept plots and easy access, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced growers. The community spirit is second to none, with people always happy to share advice and support one another.
Highly recommended for anyone in the Muxton area looking for a well-run, friendly, and enjoyable allotment.
Marvellous Muxton Meadows

Allotments with a difference
Allotments with a difference!
Such a beautiful place to be, fantastic ethos and fantastic patch manager - Loz!
Muxton Meadows Roots allotments
Loz - our patch manager - is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. As a complete beginner, he instils confidence that we can sow - grow - in a no-dig allotment. He also organises events, maintains the equipment and provides plug plants (with planting instructions) in due season.
Nourishing habit if you can afford it
Growing organic food is such a beneficial hobby really, not just for your own health, but for the environmental and social value it carries.
I rented an allotment for a year, and was at no point affiliated with the press or privy to Roots internal affairs. There were some positives and some negatives regarding my experience.
Good things first! I tried out some interesting theories, received tools and seeds with the subscription, and enjoyed simply being outdoors, tending to beautiful plants who would then tend to me in return, by growing into a decent amount of crops. On my patch there was even a surplus of squash, cucumbers and potatoes, which I enjoyed sharing; it is worth mentioning the lovely sharing shelf, where I also picked up delicious pears and cauliflowers.
Some of the not so great aspects include racing pigeons close to the site (and probably helping themselves to your cabbage leaves), proximity to car traffic with its noise and air pollution, finding my well-secured insect nets slashed with a knife (a costly unkindness, as well as a disturbingly unsafe discovery), invasive marketing communications even though I was already a client, and, well, the people factor.
The people factor! This aspect was not suitable for me, but I think it might be a good idea for others maybe to rent a Roots allotment primarily as a way to socialize with other people, even if they’re not into agriculture per se - provided you can afford it in terms of time, energy, finance, and proximity to the site (or prepare to travel)
Untrustworthy
Company who think they are beyond the law, that planning permission and ecological surveys don't apply to them because they're all about pushing boundaries and 'good vibes'. Would love to believe they're in this to do a good thing but they obsfucate, ignore big concerns and issues (like red-listed, nesting birds), start developing entrances/car parks/fences etc they don't have permission for on bank holidays at 6am so they can't be stopped, ignore traffic issues, don't bother with ecological surveys and don't seem to care a jot about local residents concerns or the environment. Why not develop allotments in the heart of inner-city communities instead?
Incredibly helpful and warm welcome.
Root Allotments have been incredibly helpful from the very start. I had a small issue when signing up, which they resolved quickly and efficiently. Their email responses have always been prompt and genuinely helpful.
Lauren at the Gloucester allotment was especially welcoming. She took the time to chat in detail about the benefits of no-dig gardening and shared the exciting future plans for the site — including the current “mud entertainment,” which is all part of being on a brand-new allotment!
The whole process has been simple, enjoyable, and really encouraging. I can’t wait to see how my patch grows next year. Highly recommend!
I dealt with Kam
I dealt with Kam. He was super I have to say, extreamily knowleegable and explained how it all works, costs and runs and I was very impressed ...and I signed up immediatly . .. extreamily polite and impeccablely spoken.
Thank you x
Poor support lets down a fab idea
Great idea, but they need better support staff at head office. I have contacted them before about terms and conditions and they can be very curt. I have tried to change my card details on my account and it can't be done! So, I am having to email the company to find out how to do this. It's the basics that can break a business and they desperately need to address this.
Been to sugarloaf today to start our…journey into growing our own vegetables
Been to sugarloaf today to start our journey into growing my first vegetables dave the site manager was so helpful it's unreal we wouldn't have been able to do what we have done today without his help thank you dave
Perfect for everyone
Such a great concept and welcoming people running it. So happy to have my own plot along with the support offered as part of the membership, the resources and Loz being such a friendly site manager.
As a first timer, everything roots does to help you set up makes everything so much less daunting. Locally sourced resources and just an investment into yourself and community
