WD My Book Live - Security Failures

Purchased a 2 Tb Version of My Book Live, Support for the product lasted no more than 3 yrs. Subsequent software SECURITY FAILURES imbedded in the product software allowed back door access to Data and data loss, Instead of fixing the software issues, WD advised customers to stop using the product and offered 40% reduction on the price of a replacement product. Now can you imagine the outcry if Microsoft or our computer manufacturer allowed our computer security to be destroyed in the same way and then asked us to return the computer and buy a new one directly from them with a 40% reduction, without the customer being informed how much the actual 60% is? Despite communicating and asking the simple question, (HOW MUCH) the response gave no more than the information already available. Being a sanicle person, I have to ask, how does the 60% WD are charging actually relate to the cost of the manufacture and delivery of the replacement product? Given that the original product would have been discounted by WD to their wholesale suppliers, agencies etc., and YOU and the customers, would then be paying the full retail price, I suspect the replacement 60% (including inflation) totally covers WD costs, with a bit of profit thrown in. I am surprised that our American Cousins have not issued a CLASS ACTION against WD. In any event, for those slightly technical amongst us, if you can, recover the stored data, purchase a 3.5 HDD Caddy <£20, open the WD My Book Live Case, remove the hard drive and the small bit of electronics attached to the drive, place the hard drive into the Caddy, (10 tiny screws), attach the HDD to a USB port and reformat the drive. You now have a working drive (Videos on the Internet show and explain the process.) If the number of one star reviews on this site do not convince you to avoid buying WD products that are not covered by another manufacturers Guarantee, then hopefully this entry will.

They even unable to accept payment

I tried to buy an HDD in that store but theirs payment system just did not work: PayPal "is not available", debit card "authorization failed" (with no actual request to my bank, card is used with Amazon, eBay, etc.). Support was unable to help during two weeks (was just giving polite promises).

Average Prices, shocking returns

Average prices, Amazon were better.
Free delviery was nice, but shcocked to see if I changed my mind I had to pay to return them to Poland!
Post Brexit that's a shocker. So I had to keep the items.

WD Deliveries - UPS are Rubbish

I ordered a USB External drive. It was shipped through UPS. UPS attempted delivery on two consecutive days at the same time when I was away for a few days. They could have left it in the porch as all other couriers do. I rang UPS to schedule a delivery and was told that they make only two attempts as per their contract with WD to save costs. The drive is on the way back to Holland and I wonder how that saves costs. UPS did not contact me by phone or email about delivery issues.
UPS are a rubbish company for deliveries with poor customer support. WD are foolish to use them. I raised an incident with WD and await their response.

This whole experience feels like a scam

I ordered a beautiful hard drive aesthetically, but it stopped working after 5 minutes.
The button to generate a return label doesn't work on the website.
The helpline doesn't even have a dialling tone.
The email doesn't reply.
Their instagram also ignored my message.
I don't know how to get my money back.
This is a big company and they behave like some dodgy plumbers on crimewatch.
If you want to experience the worst customer service of my life, then buy one of their products from the website.

Avoid like the plague!

Ordered an ssd from their UK website only to find it actually comes from the Netherlands. Delivery was with UPS who, after 2 weeks of incorrect tracking thinks they have lost it. Tried contacting WD but they don't answer the customer service phone number given out on their website. UPS are terrible but my purchase contract was with WD who won't even answer my calls. Used to be a good company, now gone to ruin.

Delivery Issues

I placed an order on 28/11/20 for a SSD Hard Drive directly through Western Digital. The order was placed on back order and shipped 28/12/20 via UPS delivery from Holland to UK. It took 24 hour to enter the country but the first attempt to deliver was around a week later. UPS state on their website they attempt delivery on 3 occasions. The tracking showed 2 delivery attempts with the parcel marked as retuning to sender. When checking my CCTV only one attempt was made by someone not in uniform and not driving a UPS van. This van was a old blue van with only one working brake light. I enquired with UPS and was told the delivery was outsourced and that they could not track the item. I asked about the number of delivery attempts and was told it was 2. Asked why their website states 3 and no reply. I was informed I had to make a claim for loss or contact the seller. Western Digital support was extremely poor. No response to emails and closing the incident without updating me. I was called by a representative from Greece on 31/12/20 and told I would get my item even though the price had now gone up. I was also told compensation would be discussed with a supervisor. I was told there was difficulty sending items to the UK because of the festive holidays and issues around Brexit. I waited patiently and on 12/01/21 I was refunded without any further update. Very poor from Western Digital. I work in an organization that supports over 2,000 computer devices and will no longer give them custom. To say Brexit is the problem well I’ve received to packages from France without any similar issue.

Appalling customer service. I cancelled an order 2 weeks before they shipped as they had delays. They still shipped and have me wait for refund. Truly appalling.

Should stick to Manufacturing - leave Retail to others

Placed an order on the WD EU online store on the 1st of Jan. Checkout stated delivery would be within 1-3 days which I took with a pinch of salt given that it was New Year's day and post-Brexit.
However, I never imagined it would the 18th of Jan before I received my order.
I understand that Covid and Brexit are causing some issues - so why not be honest and set realistic expectations for your customers?
After waiting several days with the Order status still showing 'Processing', I raised a support query asking for an ETA. It took WD a further 6 days to respond with an unhelpful reply stating the obvious, with no real update in terms of realistic delivery date etc.
So, I emailed again asking for a more meaningful update, again no reply for another 6 days - on the same day the order finally arrived.
To make things worse, when they did eventually dispatch, the original tracking number was wrong as well!
Contrast this with Jabra, with whom I ordered on the 10th (a weekend), they dispatched on Monday and it arrived on the 14th - and this was also coming from Europe - originating in the Netherlands as per the WD order and using same UPS delivery service.
Did WD not know that Covid was around and that Brexit had happened, before they stated 2-3 days delivery?
I just pray the drive I ordered does not develop a fault, I would not want to have to go through this headache again with WD. Think I will stick to Amazon UK or Crucial UK in the future.

Awful

Awful. My WD order was lost by UPS. WD's customer service was useless further to this. Refused to honour my original order. Instead will refund me "in 10 business days".

So their problem seems to be mine. They choose a useless courier, and that's my fault!

Appalling WD Service Centre in Swindon

As an IT manager myself, I have been absolutely appalled by the support service at WD. I sent a hard drive in for repair at their Service Centre in Swindon only to be told that the item sent was a red box of cheap headphones. And they will not honour the repair or replacement. And the thing is, this is the second time it has happened, as I sent a hard drive in for repair 4 years ago on behalf of my company I worked for and they played the same trick not realising I was the same person. I wonder, if this is happening to other customers? Please add your experiences here.
I will never, ever buy a WD hard drive again!

Fraudulent customer service

Fraudulent customer service, laughably unreliable products.

I had one of their mypassport drives fail on me for no reason. I sent this back - they don't even pay for return postage - how cheap is that? A replacement was sent out to me. Ridiculously this one failed after only 3 months of occasional use. Again I returned it, once again having had to pay the postage myself. There was no response from customer service after a number of weeks so I asked for a follow up. Eventually I got a response claiming that the hard-drive had been tampered with by me and that I would be denied a replacement. This is 100% false. This is literally the worst product experience that I've ever had. From other trustpilot reviews I don't seem to be the only one who has had this lie used on them!

Sandisk clip sport plus. Affordable and fast delivery.

I read the reviews and they seemed very questionable but I needed a present asap and ordered an MP3 player at a price I thought was too good but to my utter surprise it arrived 2 days later on May 18 2020 and it was ordered on the 16th I just remembered to write a review now 3 months later lol. Would definitely consider again if I need something cheap or on short notice but still a bit skeptical due to all the other bad reviews.

Customer-Unfriendly Policies

I purchased a portable 5TB drive recently, and it failed in the first 3 months. I contacted support to inquire about a replacement (well within the warranty period). At first, they wanted me to pay return shipping charges, which I thought was a bit unfair for a defective drive. I had to go back and forth with customer service, and they agreed to pay the shipping costs. But they said the replacement would take weeks! They wanted me to ship back the defective drive so that they could take "5-7 business days" to run tests to prove that it's defective. Then I'd have to wait for them to process a new order for the replacement. OR I could pay an extra fee for an advanced replacement. For a company this large, I'd expect the process to be more customer-friendly.

I contacted the retailer where I bought the drive, and they provided a replacement immediately.

WD customer service was nice and polite, but their replacement policies aren't great. And I worry about the quality.
