AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I purchased a blue 2023 Golf R from this dealership and unfortunately the entire experience has been very disappointing from start to finish.

On the day of collection, there were already issues with the vehicle. The panoramic roof was not opening and the rear interior lights were not working. After driving the car for about an hour, I was told to bring it back so they could replace a module for the panoramic roof. I was also told that the rear interior lights would be posted out to me. This never happened.

I also noticed that the brakes and tyres were already quite worn, which is not what you expect when buying a performance vehicle from what claims to be a reputable dealership.

After only three weeks of owning the car, I began experiencing gearbox issues where the car would not go into gear properly and wasn’t road worthy. When I raised this with them on the phone, the chap on the phone kept saying will call you back as there’s other customers on site. I had to pay AA for a recovery as the car had broken down away from home and when I told the dealership their response was ‘you have to arrange and pay for it yourself’. In my opinion this was a pre-existing fault that should have been picked up before the car was sold.

There were 4 outstanding recalls on the car. After giving VW the vin number of the vehicle there was no service history recorded which the dealership was adamant there was so misleading information was provided. The fuel cap was not attached also. The dealership even had the audacity to say that it’s ’not a brand new car out the showroom’ which was outrageous considering it’s nearly a £33,000 vehicle.

Trying to deal with them about this issue was extremely frustrating. Every time I contacted them I was either ignored or different colleagues were blamed instead of anyone taking responsibility. Communication and professionalism were very poor throughout. The person I was dealing with Hussain was a very rude person.

The car ended up being parked up due to the gearbox issue, and after going back and forth with them repeatedly and having to pressure them to take action, they only arranged to collect the vehicle five weeks later.

Overall, the lack of communication, accountability and basic customer service has been shocking. I would strongly advise anyone considering buying a car from here to think twice and avoid at all costs.

I bought a 2015 plate car in February 25th 2023 paint work needed touching up restray which I pointed out to them on the test drive, anyway on the test drive usually on a test drive you would take a car for a long test drive down a duel carriageway to get the feel of the car and how it drives and it's performance oh no not smk performance that never happened it was just around the block 10-15 minutes if that and back to the garage in Tilbury then we started talking about finance got that sorted 1 week coming on 2 weeks later after making 2 trips down to the dealership and making endless phone calls to smk performance and getting endless of excuses from both brothers I f finally got my car to drive I had the car for nearly 5 months and started experiencing problems with the engine smells of exhaust gases inside the cabin of car and excessive blue and white smoke from the exhaust so I took the car back to them, there said couldn't see anything wrong with the engine and there was excessive blue and white smoke coming from the exhaust they had my car for 2-3 weeks driving backwards and forwards over Dartford crossing on my account costing me money and not paying for there own crossing the cheek of it all and also using up all my fuel at the same time liberty taking anyway to cut a story short it ended up it needed a full engine rebuild parts needed replacing which they had my car from late August 2023 to early April 2024 nearly a year so I had no car for my holiday in the September month at the beginning of September going deep down south Cornwall we finally got a car which was a tired ford focus 2015 plate as a courtesy car with very high mileage with one of the ties with a slow puncture which I had to pay for a new tyre into my holiday which took 2 months to get my money back it was endless of excuses his brothers the accountant I finally got my car back in April end of April 25 with a fresh MOT after nearly a year I went to collect my car from smk performance in Tilbury a week to 2 weeks later my car is using coolant it ends up I've got a coolant leak coming from my gearbox coolant pipe called the finance company they sent an engineer out and they still can't locate where the leak was coming from so I took my car to local garage to me which was a 10 minute walk I told them about the problem it got sorted smk performance also damaged my air conditioning pipe that's a another story all these problems smk performance have caused has cost me money which luckily I got back from the finance company there also damaged 1 of my front parking sensors which I got a quote from the main dealer it would cost me £180 that's before any work gets carried out so the air conditioning pipe is now fixed the gearbox coolant pipe is now fixed no more leaks thank god so smk performance a bunch of cowboys dealership there reel you in get your money or onto finance sell you a faulty car make it faulty even more so you can take it back to them so when comes back out it's worse than what it was when it went in warning ⚠️ DO NOT NUY ANY MOTORS FROM SMK PERFORMANCE BOTH THERE SITES TILBURY AND THE OTHER SITE IN ESSEX pay him end price and get crip faulty cars for your money or on finance stay clear from SMK performance Essex there are bullstiters.. 3/4 years on I'm still trying to put my car right because of smk performance...😡😡😡

Bought a car from this disgusting company on the 6th June 2025. Engine was a little noisy as it was a diesel thought this was normal. On a routine visit to my garage (10th July )they advised me that this was not normal and should get it looked at so I rang Smk and was told the someone would collect the car from me. 5th aug someone finally pick it up and after two weeks of them having the car I had to ring them to find out what was happening was told it was the flywheel which was on order but out of stock explained I was a carer and need a car they sent me a courtesy car thou not very courteous was broken with three cracked wheels where the tyres went flat after driving 3 miles and had been filled with foam I was not made aware and was very dangerous so car sat outside my home until the 22nd of October when at this point my car was still not fix so I rejected the car and start the process to get my money back. Once I rejected the car all of a sudden my car was fixed ( I think not ) but I still rejected the car. On the 24 nov 4 weeks after rejecting the car they finally paid my deposit back to me but did not pay the finance off. It’s now dec 3rd 2025 5 months from Smk taking the car and I still have not received my money back I’m still paying the finance on a car I don’t have as they refuse to pay me out and they have the car I’m still without a car as unable to get finance until they pay it off

brought a car from this dealership in October 2024, a month or so later the starter motor failed, the dealership carried out the warranty repair fairly although I had to pay a charge of £140 to get the vehicle towed to them, a few months later in May the engine completely gave way on the road, once again I had to pay a fee of £140 to get the car towed back to them to again carry out another warranty repair,
the delaership tried to say the engine had no oil in it at all (passing the blame on to me),
yet when i broke down i had a full AA breakdown report which clearly stated engine oil levels were ok.
at this point the dealership had advised me all the pistons of the engine were bent and it needed a full engine rebuild, SMK performance took around 4 months to complete this rebuild.
2 months in, we were promised we would get the car back each week yet to be met with broken promises, meanwhile every time we called to chase up we were just ignored or met with poor excuses such as I'm having trouble with my phone or my mechanic if off sick.
I then received a letter through the post from Kent police as SMK performance had been caught speeding in my car (which should be under repair) and have gained me up to 6 points on my license and up to a £1000 fine. which i am now having to dispute in my own time.
after 4 long months they finally dropped the car back off to us and at no surprise two days later the engine light has come back on, which clearly goes to show they have done a poor job, I am now having to pay to have this problem resolved elsewhere.

would never use this company again.

I recently purchased a Peugeot 3008 from SMK performance via Zuto. They were very friendly, accommodating and quick service.
The condition of the vehicle was immaculate and the paperwork was very organised in a folder.Amazing after sale service, they even called up to check up on how I was getting on and if I needed anything to reach out.

I had a great experience with SMK Performance and more specifically Shah. So professional but friendly and approachable, answered all of my questions in depth and provided me all necessary information. Super efficient turn around from buying the car to it being delivered 2 days after viewing. Great dealership, would recommend!

Shah was very helpful and helped me with completing all the documentation, V5, car tax, transferring of private number ... he was great! The guys were accommodating and nothing was too much. AA package and warranty, service and MOT included. Would recommend them to anyone.

I bought my Mercedes ML350 and what can I say. The service was outstanding from meeting the Manager Sam to the sales boys Shah and Harry. I would recommend SMK Performace to anyone looking for a new car. They do AA inspection and give a good amount of warranty but my car has been excellent. I would be going back to get my upgrade in a few years time for sure. Thank you again to the SMK Team.

Just purchased a ford fiesta service was professional and excellent.

The car was lovely, until it broke down and we found out that the fuel pump was hanging by one bolt and the bracket lying in the belly pan in 2 pieces. How did that happen if it had been AA checked and serviced. The breaks were shot, the cambelt had to be done. And they refused to help me unless I got the car to them at my cost. They're 6 hours away and the car was in pieces. I've paid a lot of money over the price of the car, I was decent to them even asked for just half the money back which I'm sure it would have cost them if they had the car, but they avoided my calls and never got back to me. I'm gutted I bought my car from them, never known such bad business.

I recently bought a Ford Fiesta ST-3 from this dealership. I had some issues sorting out insurance and the owner stayed a few hours after closing to ensure I could drive away with my new car the same day. I appreciated this a lot. I had an issue with the car a few days later, I was told to bring it back, and it got fixed free of charge. Excellent customer service. Would definitely recommend.

Was interested in a BMW X1 online from SMK. Shah was great from beginning to end with the process. We spoke a few times before going ahead with purchasing the car and he was super helpful in giving me all the info and sending videos over. On delivery there was unfortunately an issue with the car but my partner called and they advised the car would go back for the issue to be resolved. Shah kept in touch with my partner throughout the next few days advising what was wrong and how it was being resolved and even FaceTimed to show my partner what was being done. They gave us extra peace of mind by confirming if any related issues were to arise in the next 12 months with the car they would sort the issues in addition to the 12 month AA warranty.

Thank you so much to Shah and his team for looking after us and delivering the best customer service I’ve had from a garage (much better than when I bought a brand new car directly from mini)

My dealings with SMK were nothing but exemplary, I took interest in a white Mazda Tourer which had very low mileage and in very good condition. From my first conversations with Shah he set the pace of making me feel comfortable from the get-go. As far as the process went nothing was rushed or felt pressured, matched with a very personal warmth of a family run company I felt reassured that this was a reputable and honest company. On the day of completing the sale and me driving away in my new car I was greeted welcomely by Shaw's brother Max who made the process light and easy. They recognize the customer needs time and attention and they give you that in abundance, There professional stance on making the customer feel at ease by even handing over to you a completed folder containing all the details including tax and warranty details of your chosen car shows this company wants to be leading. I can only recommend this company to anybody who has anxiety in the future about buying second hand cars at the right price.
