Let’s get straight to the point: Square as a POS platform is great: realistic fees (1.75% for card payments), and extremely fast deposit times (1-2 working days). This in itself is worthy of five stars.
I’ve given Square four stars, because the 2nd generation card reader I’m using is - though compact and easy to use - very temperamental. It keeps disconnecting itself, which can be very frustrating. The only way to reconnect is to delete the app from my phone, then download it again, and then reset the card reader. Obviously the card reader then wants to update itself, so all in all it can take quite a few minutes to collect a payment, by which time the customer is agitated, and I’m ready to flip my lid. Also, the battery life on this card reader is around one day, which is far from great.
I’ll not do Square the dishonour of naming other POS’s here, but I will say that there is another POS service that charges the same fees, but has a far better card reader that stays connected, and has a battery life of a few weeks.
I decided to try out Square to take advantage of the free fees on the first £1000 of sales, after which I’ll probably keep Square as a backup POS.

Really wanted this to work but the card reader just wouldn't pair with my phone, despite it being listed as compatible. Spent hours trying to sort it with instructions, emails & even a real person but nothing worked. Wasted so much time on this, very disappointing & still have no means of taking payment for an event in a few days time :(
Now returning in hope of a refund...

What a great experience I had with square customer service. I had an issue with taking up payments after my old phone broke and when I tried to use a new phone on the same account. The guy who took my problem was exceptionally good. He took me through everything until we had the square card reader and the tap and pay working.He was very patient, understanding when things were not working well through the process until we had everything working spot on. Thank you so much for your help . You are the best.

I’ve used square for years. Got a new card reader. Doesn’t work, says I need to verify my bank account , which I have done. Still won’t accept payments or register the device to my account. Customer service has been absolutely awful. Call me back in two days? I can’t take payments for my business!!!

For a sole trader this is especially easy, no need for a dedicated business bank account. Setup was a couple of minutes and the card reader arrived the next day.
Its all working as expected and the POS and dashboard software seem well designed.
For a new business that does not have turnover keeping start-up costs are important and this fits the bill.

Wow. This was a dream to use. No fuss. Straight forward and easy to use. The last thing you want to do is worry about the payments connecting, or worse...not going through. I paired the app with the reader and it just worked so smoothly. The next day I was able to move the money into my business bank account. I recommend it for anyone new to POS.

Absolutely appalled with square! I'm a taxi driver. And their system has been down stating service disruptions. It then offers me the option to take them offline. I have done that. Now it states it cannot retrieve the payments. Possibly costing me hundreds of pounds. The payments went through as accepted from the card reader with no mention of problems. But due to squares ridiculously unreliable service I may be hundreds of pounds of pocket!
What kind of payment provider thinks it's acceptable to have shortages on their service, then to offer offline payments, only then to tell the card reader holder, well actually we can't retrieve them! People would may be short of thousands for larger transactions! I'm absolutely disgusted! There's no customer service to help. Nothing! My internet connection is absolutely perfect. So the shortage is with square. Yet they will take zero responsibility but happy to take large percentages of each transaction.
Hundreds went through square. Never be using again! Disgusting!

Square provides a great EPOS system that we utilise in our bar for our medium sized music venue. It works well for taking orders quickly, and the card reader can also take orders, which makes table service easy.
The onboarding experience was good and the team are always on hand to help if problems arise.
Aoife Byrne has been a star throughout, making the process of switching and getting up and running very easy.

I've been aware of Square for a while as I tried to set up an online e-commerce website a few years ago. I found this difficult at the time. When choosing to sell at markets recently, a fellow business contact suggested I try Square. I always like the slick professional look of the company. I tried a couple of other suppliers to set up card reader payments but found the process with these so drawn out and unnecessary complicated. So when finally going to Square for the payment system, I wished I had done so in the first instance. All so efficient and speedy. I was set up within 24 hours and ready to accept payments. And the next day all worked perfectly and easily. Because this experience has been so satisfying, I will now revisit the e-commerce or just website idea again as I feel the professional approach that Square offer is worth pursuing again.

I have been using Square for a few years now and I have loved using it at the markets I attend. Everything about it is fantastic, it gives me the confidence to take payments easily and stress free. Customer service has been excellent when I needed assistance setting up my card reader. Payment is so quick. I would highly recommend Square for any small business.

i was recommended by a friend who has never has any issues with Square, i used a referral link which gave a great bonus if zero fee's for the first £1000, the ready is small and very cost effective, connects every time with little to no effort and pay-outs within 24hrs, previous competitors equipment rarely connected first go and when broke wanted 5-6 times the costs of a Square reader and took longer to pay-out, already recommending this to all friends who take card payments.

From almost the beggining of my opening of my Square card reader ac I have had nothing but problems. Maybe I am just unlucky? Had problems setting up a delivery driver able to take payments on phone app..... un-resolved after countless phone calls and emails?. Then to find that Square tried to draw money from by buisness bank ac this week? For what reason I was unable to get an answer or reason. I am done with Square. For me it has not worked well at all

Just ridiculous. I tried to varify identity. It wouldnt allow me so i contacted help. Three times i had to explain same thing to them, sent them screenshots. Then they ask for more screenshots! Ive nothing else to send. If i cant even get help to start, i dread to think what its like if i have a card reader problem.

Horrible!! don't bother, bought a square reader and got 1 use out of it then I received an email to say my account was deactivated with no reason as to why. I contacted support and there was no explanation as to why they have deactivated my account, they just told me there is nothing they can do and sent me an email with the terms I have not done anything that has violated their terms this is a mistake and customer service is poor. Luckily I had no funds in there but for people with a thriving business.. do NOT use square...
