I have only just set up with square and am still learning but I have had to uninstall and reinstall the app by the second use as it would no longer work and the app told me uninstall it. I also have not been able to make my square reader work yet or the tap to pay on the phone and have had to put card details in manually which is annoying, but I will continue to try and work out why certain aspects are not working. It only took a day or 2 for the funds to appear in my bank account and otherwise has been a breeze to set up and use.

I can take payments on events, this was brilliant, once it was all set up, it was very easy to take my first payment, tho we got a card reader, we didnt really need it, as it took the payments from my phone. But nice to have for a back up.

The only reason it is not 5 stars is for some small reasons. The TLDR is that is works and I think it's a really good option for small businesses who are not selling in person consistently enough to justify paying for a dedicated card reader, but it does have some options that look good for people who are larger/ more consistent in person sellers. Make sure you give yourself enough time between needing to use it and setting up your account, they need time to confirm your bank!
Small negatives: I had anxiety over making sure it definitely worked with my phone, and it felt a little frustrating that there is not some way for a small test payment, so I am not sending 3 quid to myself through square, and losing a small percentage of that £3 to squares fees for the privilege of making sure it works. Now it is a tiny percentage (2.5%), but I think a way for a small no fee test payment to confirm it works would be a good idea, if possible.
Other small thing was in the app itself, it wanted me to set up items and customer profiles, which just wasn't needed for my purposes at the time, and no matter how many times I got rid of the notification, it would always come back up and seemed to have some weird moments perhaps because I wasn't doing them?
Positives: It is easy to set up and free. I chose it because it lets me use my phone to take payments rather than having to purchase a card reader, and had seen other small creators using it at art markets. This was my first time selling in person and it worked really well, was quick to use and has the amount clearly on the screen so you can show customers how much you have typed in. I was also then able to go through the app to record how much and when each payment was.
It's nice that they give you a free trial of their premium features as well, that does not automatically continue. When the trial ends it just stops, and you can yourself choose if you want to go in and continue it.
I also appreciate it is upfront about the money from each sale that square takes for processing. They tell you percentages, but also tell you from each sale what is taken, and how much has been taken overall, and it is reassuring to see the numbers clearly laid out.
Money is moved into your account within 2 days for free (or you can pay an small additional fee to move it instantly if you need it faster), and that all happened smoothly!

I purchased the reader from a large wholesaler. Was worried about there not being g any instructions in the box at first, but once the item is charged up, every step is done on the reader itself. Overall happy with set up.

Simplicity, instant transfer if you want.. not one single issue with payments..my card reader let me down daily.. losing signal..but square is through my phone..

The square card reader is a great price and easy to set up work lots of features my previous reader didn't offer. The only downside is that if you make a mistake inputting an amount you cannot cancel or amend and have to refund customer and start again.

The account was fairly straightforward to set up and link to my new business bank account. However, the whole point of doing this was to enable me to take card payments using a card reader. It is six days now since I opened the account and ordered the Square card reader, however, according to the tracking information supplied, my card reader hasn't even got as far as the courier yet, which I think is pretty poor.
So easy you can also use phone tap and pay no need for square reader very mobile

From downloading the app, connecting my bank, through to connecting my card reader, it's been as close to an intuitive experience as I have had with this kind of tech. I was a little unsure about setting up products and especially discounts, but it had enough options to get me where I needed in pretty quick time
