Was looking for a payment solution as a taxi driver. Problem is I did not check compatible phones list first as assumed that any modern Android phone would work with reader. My 3 year old android 10 phone appeared to work fine but app kept going into offline mode and refused to work until I turned Bluetooth off and back on again. Ended up ordering a Samsung S21 and also ordered a Zettle 2 reader which worked fine. The Zettle reader also worked fine on old phone..... my advice to prospective buyers is double check compatibility list before you commit. IMHO the Zettle 2 reader is superior as it has a keypad whereas the Square one does not, it's larger yes but for me thats OK.
Rubbish customer service. After a month of trying to sort out an issue with non-payments using the Square App and reader, I've been shuffled from one 'customer service' agent to another, to only be told that they have now closed my case because they hadn't heard from me for two weeks. I was waiting for them to sort out my problem and get back to me. I'm a small business and the small about that I am owed due to the app not working, is actually a lot of money to me. I'll be looking for an alternative payment method.
To add to the frustration, it is almost impossible to find a contact email, phone number etc. The claim on the website that says people use Square because of the great customer service and 24/7 support. That's certainly not been the case for me. The support is appalling!

I ordered a card reader without realising the limitations for my needs.
I followed easily the instructions to return it. (I'm 81!).
I contacted Square as I'd not heard anything and the package had been received a few days earlier. Customer support took up my case quickly and I received a full refund.
Instructions very easy to follow. Just wish I'd been able to use the card reader in the same way.
Excellent customer service. Thank you.
Ordered a card reader it never arrived very hard to get a response , had to get credit card company to step in to get my money back

Since using Square I have found the service extremely efficient, especially when compared with the service I received from a competitor.
Customer service has also been excellent and, when a problem was brought to their attention concerning a failure to connect to their reader, brought about by my 'phone's update to Android 11, the problem was resolved and a new terminal sent to me.
I cannot fault the service so far.
This company is so easy and has excellent customer service I would highly recommend this company
This my first time having a card reader and it was simple to set up with the help of customer service
I use the Square reader in my little shop and I love it. I've also sent invoices to people I've sold to on Instagram and they are great. I am technically inept but I find this works like magic, thank you.
Absolutely the worst choice for a reader one can make!! The reader works when it wants, could be months, could be a day. It will disconnect and never connect to a device again. Then works fine with another device for few weeks, disconnects and is never to be paired again. Square customer agent suggested that it was all due to luck!!
For your information Square, we don't do business on luck!! We need a realible gadget and yours isn't one!!
Pathetic!!

As a taxi driver, I need a card reader to use on the go, and my Square Reader rarely works, and when it does work it takes roughly ten minutes to connect, very occasionally, and I mean very occasionally it will work first time

Avoid at all costs!
Initially assumed that this would be an easy way to take credit card payments from clients after several inquiries in the past. As there was an offer via my business banking I ordered a reader and assumed it was all plain sailing from then on.
How wrong!!!
After invoicing £8500 to clients I was emailed saying I had to refund them. When I phoned to find out what the problem was the girl I spoke to just said she couldn’t see the problem but I had to refund first before she could discuss it.
How many days until my client gets a refund........ can take 7-10 days 😂
Bought reader more than a year ago, finally got to use it for food buisiness only to fins out it doesn’t work!!!! Gave us an error message saying card reader is ‘damaged’. Barely even touched the reader and always had it packed in the box now how does it even get damaged? Warranty only last 1 year, so couldnt claim. Appalling and poor quality product cant even last with proper storing!
Edit: Square replaced the reader immediately upon posting this review. Can't complain!

I had to replace my square card reader having lost it, however i did also buy the dock for the reader but i feel not enough was said about it, and feel i have bought something that i probably wont use , also i wish to see square sync contacts with those on phone (iphone) to make it easier to send reciepts
Waste of money. No support. Couldn’t even begin to use the card reader I bought because they kept sending me back to the “purchase a reader page” avoid!!

So far a good experience - though there are a few things I'm unsure about. There appears to be only one template - this is just odd when compared to how others do it. It's also really hard as a newbie customer to understand from your website how the thing works - there are even zero example sites. Once into your interface it's overwhelming, but you find your way around quickly - some rationalisation is needed there as it's often hard to re-find a control page you just used. All in all though very promising and hoping for good integration with our reader, facebook and instagram. We'll see !
Square helpline talked me through the fix for my reader no longer beeping on completion of a transaction and stayed on the line while I checked everything was working correctly. Very helpful and issue fixed.
As a small business I would highly recommend businesses to AVOID Square at all costs.
We set up square account, providing all the necessary documents - this part was straight forward. We had a small niggle first when our reader didn't connect (even tho it was brand new), and to be fair to Square they did send a new one out the next day.
We had been using Square for about a week or so and then all of a sudden we get this email at midnight saying our account was going to be deactivated and that the card reader would not work from that day. This left us no time to find a replacement meaning we have since lost a whole days business - which for a small business leading up to Christmas is a massive hit for us. So much for Square supporting small businesses...especially during coronavirus.
I called up Square as soon as we found out about this as they had not given any reason as to why our account was deactivated or even any warning that our account might get deactivated. They said they don't know why it was deactivated and that we can't appeal the decision!
What a complete and utter joke! They couldn't tell me anything except "try and find another payment provider".!!
The least they could have done is given us a 24 hour warning so we can find another payment solution for our business - or even send the email at 9am in the morning not in the middle of the night. But more importantly they don't even tell us why our account was deactivated!!!
To even give this company a 1 star is a compliment - they're customer service is abysmal, and their wait times are long, but most importantly they don't treat businesses with any respect.
After reading a few other reviews it seems others a similar issue if you are about to sign up for them - don't!

Hardware is okay, apart from we have had serious issues with the card reader and its not connecting. I have contacted the customer services and they said they would get someone in contact before friday (it was monday) as i needed it for saturday urgently, i haven’t heard a thing of them since. You buy the hardware and then you are neglected. Absolutely awful customer service!
I went to square as a friend of mine has 6 stores and swears by there equipment. I started a new business in November and started building up the website. Getting everything done in a professional manner. 4 weeks later the Cookie Banner is still none compliant with GDPR. Several emails later and they just stop answering. I covered myself by coding in a Cookie Policy but my website now displays two cookie banners. It looks like armatures. We did our first sale, then the problems really started to happen. Emails about 3 months bank statements and other associated articles such as Company registered information for there so called verification process.
No new business has 3 months bank statements until they have been trading 3 months. So now they want personal bank statements. Firstly personal bank statements are nothing to do with the business. Secondly I never get statements for my personal accounts due to disabilities I use Barclays Banking App. You cannot order personal statements through the app. I tried to get statements through Barclays online but the reader I have to verify through Barclays I cannot see due to eyesight issues.
I called the customer helpline who, firstly refused to provide a SAR. the now 2nd law they are in breach of.
The staff are particularly condescending, implying that my business is not legitimate where there business is.
Back to the bank statements at the minute I cannot get the personal bank statements due to Barclays closing its call centre due to a so called. Business Incident. (A guess covid). So I am now faced with the payment gateway being suspended because I cannot provide the statement so that I can move things on. And no doubt the work I've done building everything up for a month as now gone down the toilet and no doubt they will find some way of blaming me rather than it being their fault.
The terms say they can ask for bank statements at any time clause 8. however in that terminology the whole paragraph implies business not personal. with comments like inspect your business premises, check invoices. No one ever does that through a personal account. So it clearly implies business not personal. I said if you want people to agree to things be transparent and do everything up front.
I was on the phone a while. the lady kept moaning about how long we had been on the phone. One and half hours. again implying that I am wasting her time. What about my last month of time being wasted setting everything up.
So the long and short of it is, Square does not want disabled customers, or any new businesses. Make your own ideas up of how to proceed.
Brilliant so fast service second time I have had a issue in the time I have been with you and a new card reader was here in 13 hours!
That’s amazing.
