Not as convenient as it sounds

Was assigned to a therapist in a different time zone, and all the available timeslots were at 5am or 6am in our time zone. After 2 months and $$$$ spent, never got a live session. Not convenient. Not recommended.

Not good experience

I had some expectations on teencounseling after reading good reviews. However, I was quite disappointed with the therapist matched to my daughter. The therapist does not seem to care, looked tired in meetings and was even late for 5 minutes for my daughter's first meeting. She's also not responsive to our requests to re-schedule, so I ended up having to cancel the meeting. $80 for a 30 minute session is not cheap. It's hard for me to believe that a therapist with this rate could be this unprofessional and uncaring. Even if teencounseling offered to try a different therapist, I'm hesitant in going thru another round of my introduction (1st meeting) and my daughter's (2nd meeting), given this is a sensitive matter and I don't want my daughter to feel she's mentally unhealthy by exposing her to another stranger; she's already unsure of meeting with a therapist in the first place. Not sure whether I'm able to get a refund from teencounseling as the monthly charge covers 4 meetings and we only had 2 meetings. I've emailed teencouseling about refund but haven't heard back from them.

Horrific experience

*UPDATE* This site only gives u 48 hrs to respond and I didn't even see TeenCounseling.com's response till much later so responding here:

I still hadn't received any email response from teencounseling.com and the response to this public review is the only communication. There's nothing in my junk mail either. There's no phone number readily available on your site to call any "account services" and I had to dig and dig since you all deliberately make it hard to find. If u really wanted to help people u would respond to their 1st email instead of making them write 4 or 5 and u would make phone numbers available on the Contact Us page. It's pretty clear why u DONT make phone contact readily available.

Horrific experience. Had $600 stolen by this company and my child was never seen even ONCE by a therapist. You pay a monthly $300 subscription for 1 weekly visit, however you have to wait to be paired with a therapist, which wasn't immediate. Next, once paired you have to find time on the paired therapist's schedule that meets your child's time, which was largely non-existant. They would be booked weeks in advance so I couldn't even start weekly visits on my first month. So I paid for the 2nd month expecting I could start booking times in advance but turns out the app won't let you book more than one appointment at a time.

The one appointment I could actually find, they message my child DIRECTLY with the link to start the session online and they stupidly put it in the timezone of the therapist and not my child. My child is a CHILD so she doesn't think to convert the time zones and the session is missed. I again can't book anything until weeks out and another $300 for the month is down the drain for a service we couldn't use.

There is no phone number for customer service. I sent multiple emails and no one will respond!! I tried to put in a claim directly with my bank for the $600 and teencounseling.com would not reverse the charges. I've never felt so completely robbed by a business before in my life.

This is a massive money grab and they are only here to make money off of desperate parents and the fine print in their subscription service and do not care at all about their customers. My next move is to go to the BBB and Attorney General's office to open up a consumer protection complaint so they can look into this. Even if I never get my money back, this is not something that should keep happening to people. They make no pathways for people to get any assistance with booking or billing issues and that can't possibly be an acceptable practice. Protect your teen and your household resources and do not use this service.

The counselor was Amazing

The counselor was Amazing, she listened, she asked a lot of questions. She truly seemed interested with what was going on with my daughters, and made them feel comfortable.

A great option for hesitant teens

I have a teen that has been very resistant to counseling. She was at the point that she knew she needed something, so she decided she would try teen counseling.com. I have been so impressed with her counselor who seemed to be a perfect match for my child. She has been so patient with her, even when my daughter completely shuts down. Access to a message board at anytime and flexible meeting options are amazing. So far, it has been a great experience.

Highly recommend Better Help Teen Counseling

My daughter was in a very dark place a year ago, when I signed her up with Better Help Teen Counseling. Her therapist has been an incredible help and I have seen so many positive changes in my daughter, since she started therapy. I would recommend this to everyone!

Horrible experience that damages vulnerable teens

After my child's first session with this therapist from teencounseling she ran into my room crying and told me several disturbing incidents that I later confirmed were true with therapist. When my daughter told her a personal painful incident the therapist replied by saying other people experience the same or worse and relayed a personal story of her own and said it was just as bad. A therapist is supposed to work on bonding and building trust, especially in the first session with a teenager and that is done through empathy and not comparing the clients problems to other peoples. A therapist is NEVER supposed to bring in their own personal story.
When I emailed this therapist asking her how she thought the session went, she thought it went wonderfully. She was so disconnected and unaware of how horribly she made my child feel when she was vulnerable and looking for help. So I scheduled a session with the therapist to speak with her about it. I took off work and received a confirmation form the therapist and the website bot for the date and time. I waited 20 minutes before the therapist joined the call and she made no apologies and when I asked her why she was 20 minutes late she said she was with another client and couldn't take a moment to text me or let me know. She showed no awareness of her rudeness or inappropriate behavior or lack of common courtesy or insight into the consequences of her words and actions.

I sought out this platform to help one…

I sought out this platform to help one of my students, that is struggling with gender dysphoria. They found the sessions to be very helpful and engaging . They found that the counsellor was easy to engage with about the emotions they were feeling. The platform itself is easy to navigate. Payment for low income are very reasonable.

Our daughter is having a rough time…

Our daughter is having a rough time with anxiety and catastrophizing everything. Our daughter asked for help so I went searching and found Better help teen counseling. We where matched with Patricia Hanson, Patricia was an amazing fit for our family from the start. Patricia asked questions of all three of us to get a better feel for our family. We all participated in our daughters therapy session which made our daughter feel safe and supported. Patty was able to dial into our daughter pretty quickly and gave her wonderful, helpful tools to control her anxiety and catastrophizing. We as parents are so grateful that this platform exists, we didn't have to take our daughter out for therapy we did it in the privacy of our own home. If your child is struggling with anything it is worth reaching out to teen counseling.

Game changer!

The platform is so easy to use. I live being able to find therapists, experience in their own words as well as reviews of patients. They make it so easy to schedule appointments via video or phone. And they seem to actually ensure you feel comfortable with process along the way. I’m a single mom and can use any type of support necessary to ensure my daughters mental health is ok. I’m so appreciative!

TEEN COUSELING & BETTER HELP

I paid for sessions and set up my first appt with Crystal Clark for my son. She never showed up and did not send email, text, etc letting us no why, just ghosted us. After some back and forth with teencouseling, I finally got an email from Amanda who was able to refund for all my sessions and close my account. She did offer discounts, etc for another therapist but I did not feel it would benefit my son if we had to go through the trouble of another no show. They receive 4 stars because they refunded my money for services not renered.

We're sorry for any frustration, Theresa. Please know that our Member Success Team generally responds to messages within 1 business day so I would be happy to look into why you aren’t receiving our responses. Perhaps they've ended up in SPAM or JUNK folders in your inbox.

Also, we want to make sure you and your teen are able to use their membership appropriately as this is what you deserve and have paid for. We're sorry if you had an issue with your first appointment and we'd like to make sure this is taken care of, too. Lastly, you are correct that all memberships are billed upfront, which we note on the payment screen as well as our FAQ page, but I can understand if there was some confusion with this.

I am going to request more information, via TrustPilot, so we can work together and get this all straightened out in the best way for you and your teen!

When in good hands: a softer heart.

We have a "relation" with Renette for the last two years: surfing through pandemic and the early "adolescent" years of Maya. Our experience has been good, stable, fruitfull and might I write this (?), fun. I have heard Maya laughing while talking with Renette, just as her week had been bleak. I am thankfull. As a single mother now, I value the support.

Grateful beyond words for our counselor

Our counselor has helped not only my daughter but also given me great advice to help my girls. I am thankful and feel blessed to find a counselor like Karina. The Teencounseling.com does a great job matching your teen with a counselor that understands and is empathetic.

Easy, accessible and relief for my teen

My daughter has shown great improvements in her responses and actions with whatever life brings her. Her therapist connected with her immediately which is something tough for everyone, and my daughter looks forward to her sessions. It's great for her as a sounding board and just to get tips on stress and anxiety.

I was struggling to find help…

I was struggling to find help and with this service, I was able to talk/message an experienced therapist who understood the situation. After a couple of sessions with me, he was also able to speak to my teen who was the main reason I got in touch. The process of messaging and setting up appointments was straight forward and the cost was reasonable. They are also very flexible in that my initial session happened towards the end of the month therefore, I didn't benefit from the amount I paid for. Without prompting, I was given a couple of extra weeks grace so I could catch up. I would very much recommend Teen counseling. Thank you.

Terrible

Terrible. My daughter had one 'get to know the therapist' session, only to be told 5 minutes into the next session that the therapist decided not to work with us anymore as we are in the UK. Made a complaint, nobody replied. Don't risk your Teen if they are fragile already, and definitely dont waste your money!!

REPLY TO BELOW: I have filled in the form sent with my name and email as requested, I am not keen to communicate, the damage is done. You should have communicated with me when you had the chance, instead of ceasing to respond to my emails like I just needed to go away, not now because you have a bad review. Disgusting.

In it for the $$

My EAP coverage was supposed to provide three free sessions. I was asked to enter my credit card, which I assumed was to keep on file should I wish to continue after my benefit was used. Nope. I was immediately charged for a full month. I had to contact my insurance and they had to fight to get my money back. That done, I found a therapist for my daughter and set up an initial session. She had that session, and liked the therapist. However, when she went to log into the app for her second session, she received an error message. When I attempted to log in I received an error message as well--one that include a prompt to pay if I wanted to keep access. My benefits were supposed to include three free sessions, and the system shut us off after only one. I'm disheartened and defeated by how my daughter was treated by this system. We found someone that she connected with, and then she was cut off with no notice. This is not the way to help teenagers going through something. This is not the way to get a kid to trust again. The treatment of my daughter here was unconscionable. I am writing this review to try to help others before they attempt to get 'help' through this service. They definitely care more about their bottom line than the mental wellbeing of the children. We will not be using this service ever again.
