About TMO - The Motoring Organisation

Written by the company

The Motoring Organisation (TMO) has been part of the UK’s motoring story for over 50 years. With a legacy built on introducing extended warranties to the UK in the 1970s and continuing ever since to bring protection, support, and peace of mind to drivers, dealers and partners alike.

Over the decades, we have worked closely with many of the UK’s most trusted names and businesses:

• The AA
• RAC
• Vehicle manufacturers
• National dealer groups
• Major vehicle businesses

These partnerships have helped shape our expertise in warranty product development, claims administration, and dealer operations.

In 2020, we launched “The Motoring Organisation” as an independent brand, rooted in the experience we’ve accrued over decades. From that point, we set out to do things differently — to offer Aftercare that is smart, reliable, and customer-focused.

Our flagship Aftercare product is built to delivery what customers really need. We take the burden off drivers and dealers, helping protect against rising costs, uncertainties, and the unexpected.

We pride ourselves on:

• Great Service
• Transparency
• Integrity

As the UK’s #1 Trading Standards Approved Aftercare provider, our mission is to ensure every interaction is clear, supportive, and puts the customer first.

At TMO, we’re not just keeping pace with change — we aim to lead it. Our vision is to build solutions that deliver real value, trusted cover, and confidence on the road, every time.

Really easy to deal with this company

Really easy to deal with this company. I’m never more than 5/10 mins on the phone, the wait times are never more than a couple of mins, and the claim process is really straightforward. Thanks to Becca and Marie for their great help with my recent claim, you made it really simple!!

Avoid taking out an optional policy…

Avoid taking out an optional policy when buying a used car from a dealer. (They are Mis Selling you a Warranty.!!)They don't tell you the part about having to pay out of your own pocket for Diagnostics, and the vast majority of parts that do Go wrong are Suddenly not covered. Leaving you with a nice repair bill..!
My Advice is don't bother. Stick to your Consumer rights, they cover you for six months and the dealer is legally liable to fix anything and it doesn't cost a thing..! AVOID...!

Excellent Service & Efficient Claim Processing

I am writing to share my positive experience with The Motoring Organisation following a recent claim. After submitting my claim, I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency and professionalism demonstrated throughout the process.

My claim was reviewed and approved within three working days, a turnaround time that exceeded my expectations. Communication from the claims team was prompt, clear, and informative at every stage, leaving me in no doubt as to the status of my application.

Insurance claims can often be a source of considerable stress, particularly following an failure. However, The Motoring Organisation’s efficient handling of my case significantly alleviated this burden. Their staff conducted themselves with evident competence and courtesy, and I encountered none of the delays or administrative difficulties I have experienced with other providers in the past.

I would confidently recommend The Motoring Organisation to anyone seeking a reliable insurance provider that combines comprehensive cover with genuinely efficient claims processing. Based on this claim experience, I intend to remain a customer for the foreseeable future.

My first time having to use a warranty

My first time having to use a warranty, TMO made it easy, I could choose the garage the car went to, if there was one that I trusted.
Only reason for 4 stars is, office hours don't cover weekends, so I was left a bit in the dark and didn't know what was happening.
Other than that, they were friendly on the phone and explained everything and answered my questions.

This has to be the worst company I have…

This has to be the worst company I have ever known by far. I have had the policy for over 3 years and luckily enough I had never had to use it up until the last few months. The first and only time I had to use it was an absolute waste of time the customer service was an absolute disgrace. They never reply to any emails regarding the cover I had and I was miss sold the policy as when I was sold the policy I wasn't informed about what they do not cover. I have tried to make a formal complaint with the company and I get completely ignored. I have emailed them over 15 times in the last few months asking for an update and still to this day had no response. I would definitely not recommend these to anyone and the way you get treated is unacceptable and so unprofessional. Save your money and use another company who actually treats people with respect and actually wants your business. This company needs to treat people with respect, be honest and not be rude and unprofessional towards customers. The company states on its website its hassle free and they sort everything, dont be fooled. Even my garage told them what the fault was and they ignored this and made up the fault was down to wear and tear off a picture. All I can say is wow. Cowboys

Dear Tim,

We’re sorry to read your review and that you feel this way about your experience.

Having reviewed the claim history, we do need to clarify that your claim was not ignored or rejected in full. We authorised and paid the covered element relating to the ABS wheel-speed sensor.

The turbo was assessed separately. The information supplied by the repairer identified excessive movement in the turbo impeller shaft, with no separate sudden component failure established as its cause. The vehicle’s service history also showed that servicing had previously been completed outside the manufacturer’s specified intervals. This is particularly relevant to a turbocharger, which depends heavily on the correct quality, quantity and condition of the engine oil for lubrication and cooling.

Based on the diagnostic information and service history available, the turbo’s condition was assessed as progressive deterioration rather than a sudden mechanical breakdown covered by the policy. This decision was not simply “made up” from a photograph. The image formed only part of the evidence considered alongside the repairer’s diagnosis, our subsequent discussions with them and the vehicle’s maintenance history.

Your policy documentation clearly sets out the parts covered, the definition of a breakdown and the applicable terms and exclusions. Nevertheless, we take your comments regarding communication and the allegation that the policy was mis-sold seriously. We will investigate these matters further, as the experience you have described is far from our normal standard of service.

While we understand your disappointment with the outcome of the turbo element, we do not accept the suggestion that your claim was ignored or that the technical decision was fabricated.

In the meantime, if further evidence comes to light that you wish to present, please contact our customer support team.

Totally wasted £500 Misleading promises and appalling service

Purchasing a £500 warranty from TMO Warranty when I bought my car was hands down the worst investment I have made. It is a complete waste of money and feels entirely misleading compared to what they advertise during sale.
On their website and promotional materials, they explicitly promise a seamless, hassle-free four-step process:
-step 2 TMO finds an approved, reliable local repairer for you.
None of this is true.
I purchased this warranty for an electric vehicle (EV). At the very first sign of difficulty in sourcing an independent repair shop capable of working on an EV, TMO completely dropped the ball. When I called them, their representative unhelpfully and rudely informed me over the phone: "Finding a repair shop for you is just a courtesy we offer, not an obligation."
This directly contradicts their entire sales pitch and online marketing, crossing straight into misleading advertising. They effectively admitted that once a case gets slightly complex, they expect you to do all the legwork yourself because they ran out of resources or simply couldn't be bothered.
Their "network of approved mechanics" turned out to be nothing more than basic Google searches that anyone could perform from home. Worse still, their customer staff showed zero technical competence—I had to repeatedly remind them that I drive an electric car, yet they kept attempting to send me to local garages that do not even service EVs!
To top it off, during one of these repair arrangements, my car was left parked on a street with parking restrictions, resulting in a penalty charge notice (PCN). The ticket was removed from the windshield, and by the time I received the notice at home, the fine had doubled. TMO flatly refused to take responsibility or pay for it, forcing me to pay the doubled fine out of my own pocket.
Do not waste a single penny on TMO Warranty. It provides no real coverage, useless customer assistance, and zero peace of mind.

Federico, we are sorry that you remain dissatisfied, but we cannot allow a number of the statements within this review to go unchallenged as they do not accurately reflect either the service available to our customers or the extensive assistance provided to you.

Firstly, the suggestion that our repair network amounts to little more than “basic Google searches” is simply incorrect. TMO has access to multiple established repair networks, in addition to our own repair relationships, providing access to several thousand repairers nationwide.

Our records also show that, during your claims, our team contacted multiple repairers on your behalf, checked availability, made appointments and subsequently changed repairers at your request. We therefore find the suggestion that we “couldn’t be bothered” to assist particularly unfair.

The difficulty encountered in this instance was finding an independent repairer locally that was both willing and suitably equipped to diagnose the particular fault on your electric vehicle. EV diagnosis and repair can require more specialist facilities and expertise than conventional vehicle repairs, which inevitably reduces the number of suitable independent repairers. Availability and capacity within the wider motor repair sector are also matters outside TMO's control and are certainly not unique to our business.

When those options had been exhausted, rather than simply refusing further assistance, we increased the labour-rate contribution available to you and confirmed that we were willing to work with a repairer of your choice. Our warranty terms specifically provide for this flexibility where a suitable nominated repairer cannot be located.

It is also incorrect to state that the warranty provided “no real coverage”. Our records show that repair work relating to your tyre-pressure monitoring system was authorised and that a separate recovery claim was successfully provided under your cover.

Regarding the parking charge, the vehicle was in the custody of an independent repairer when the alleged parking incident occurred. Despite this not being something caused by TMO, our team nevertheless contacted the repairer on your behalf and attempted to obtain an explanation. It would not be reasonable for TMO to accept financial responsibility for a parking charge incurred while a vehicle was in an independent third party's possession.

We completely accept that you were frustrated by the difficulty in locating a suitable EV repairer, and we would never suggest that every aspect of your experience was ideal. However, frustration does not make the description given in this review accurate.

We would therefore respectfully ask that you reconsider and amend your review so that it fairly reflects the assistance actually provided, the specialist nature of the vehicle and repair required, and the claims and recovery assistance that were provided under your warranty.
