The car we hire actually ran quite well, but we did take photos of the bashes and scrapes on the vehicle before driving it away. However, our week holiday was blighted by rain and that's when I notic... See more

Avoid at all costs!!!
Over 1h in the que at Fuerteventura Airport to pick up the car. The process is long as the staff are so aggressive in trying to sell extra insurance. The lady lied I have NO insurance paid and I need to purchase. When challenged and asked if basic (fire theft cdw) is included in the deposit as stipulated in the rental T&Cs on the website she became annoyed and she said no, I have NO insurance if I choose to drive off without paying extra, which is absolutely a lie. Incredibly rude passive-aggressive attitude after 1 hour in the que with a 2 year old, following 4h flight...
I booked a Hyundai Tucson or similar which they did not have so given VW T-Cross without asking. When enquired she said it was an upgrade, though the car and boot space much smaller and could not fit luggage, pushchair etc. In the end given a Skoda Karoq which is still smaller and has a smaller boot. When raised it again with the staff rudly advised to pay extra for a superior class, even though the advertised Tucson would have taken all the luggage. We had put suitcases on passenger seat! The child seat came covered in a bag like it was cleaned, however it looked filthy and worn out, we kept a towel over it in a try to limit child's skin contact... The car itself 75000km on the clock, pretty badly battered and scuffed all over.
And of course all the other annoying bits which I guess became the industry standard unfortunately and not Topcar specific : no cover for lost keys, damaged wheels, no driving on unpaved roads (which applies in order to access most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura, the reason you may want to rent a car).
Very very disappointing experience to begin the holiday with!! 0 star, avoid

They made me pay an extra charge…
They made me pay an extra charge without previous notice and they're not providing me with the invoice and the exact reason for the extra charge so that I can properly open a claim. I paid it because I was in the airport and I needed the car, but now I need all the documentation about the payment. Can you please answer to me?

Top Car is a nightmare
Top Car is perfect if you like to get an old car with 78.000km, smeared windscreen, a big hole in the front seat, less petrol in the tank, and so on...
The best ist yet to come: By returning the car, the guy assured, that the car has no damage and we will receive an email within minutes. He refused to give a piece of paper instantly. Result: They deducted 130,- for the right mirror-glas. Believe me: I drove the car from the hotel to the airport personally and the mirror was 100% okay. I assume, this is not a coincidence, this is a business model.

I rented a car in Gran Canaria
I rented a car in Gran Canaria. Unfortunately, the vehicle was dirty both inside and outside, the interior smelled unpleasant, the air conditioning was not working, and several warning messages appeared on the dashboard.
Despite this experience, I considered booking again for a longer rental period, as the prices initially seemed attractive. Before proceeding, I tried to contact the company to confirm the type of vehicle and request a relatively new model, given that the rental would be for several months.
Over four consecutive days, I attempted to reach them by phone, left a voicemail, and sent several emails. To date, I have received no response.
While the pricing may look appealing, the lack of vehicle quality and customer service led me to look elsewhere. I prefer paying more for reliability and proper support.

Absolutely disgusting company!!!
Absolutely disgusting company!!!
Car was received with a lot of damage, and returned in exactly the same state and no extra damage.
Have taken my deposit and tried to take another 425 from my account.
Thankfully I have a bundle of pictures of vehicle damage, I have started a case with my bank after no contact or documentation explaining these charges. And yes I did purchase the extra insurance through booking.com which I refuse to claim from as I am determined to recover my money.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
This is only the third occasion I've rented a car from TopCar in Lanzarote, and the second time the vehicle has broken down on me. Just arrived today, 13th January 2026, and the car hasn't even got me from the airport to my accommodation. Now waiting for the recovery truck.
Thank you TopCar, for a great start to my holiday.

Dreadful
Despite a confirmed booking, we waited over two hours in a queue while other car hire desks had little or no wait. It was clear TopCar had oversold.
The delay meant we arrived late at our hotel, losing valuable time. The car provided was also not the VW Polo booked, but an inferior alternative.
Poorly organised and misleading. I would not use TopCar again.

Broken car. No deposit return. 0 star
I have booked a car in fue airport. And they didn't give me a car that I booked, instead they give me a large van. And they said it's only one that they have and I have no choice
Ok then , I had drived the van. It keeps having warning sign. So I cannot drive the car and I need to wait for them to switch them. They don't compensate or even feel sorry.
What's the craziest part is that they don't return my deposit. I have tried email. And there is no response. I feel so worried especially I see so low score in trust pilot now.

Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience due to lack of transparency.
The online booking was confirmed at the agreed price.
At the counter, I was asked for a €1,200 deposit because I was paying with a debit card, or alternatively to pay €63 extra for additional insurance.
This was not clearly disclosed during the booking process.
If this is your policy, that is your choice — but it must be clearly stated in advance, not revealed at the counter when the customer is already at the airport and has no real alternatives.
This practice feels like attracting customers with a low price and then forcing extra costs on them.
I cancelled the rental and wasted valuable time.
I do not recommend TopCar to anyone

No cars on arrival
Arrived at Fuerteventura airport in the evening with three tired and hungry children following a four hour flight to be told they had no cars available. This is despite booking in advance online a week earlier (booking was in my wife's name to answer the TopCar comment below). We weren't the only ones in that position. It's quite simple, match the number of bookings to the number of cars you have available. Don't use them.

Would definitely not recommend Topcar
Would definitely not recommend Topcar. Terrible start of your holiday. First of all we waited 2,5 hours in line to be helped at the desk of Topcar. There were three people working at the same time helping but for some reason the line was moving extremely slowly. After the 2,5 hours, it was our turn and it made more sense why it took so long namely first of all extremely hard sell of insurance in a way I have never experienced before.
I paid around 175,- EUR for the car rental including insurance. Which I had paid online before. Then at the desk, the lady spoke poor English but at the same time she spoke very fast and came about quite agitated. She made us pay another 175,- for “the car” and a gas deposit of 135,-. So 310,- in total. After a I had already payed this 310,- EUR, we understood that this 175,- Euro’s extra was for insurance. We thought that the 175,- we payed online was a deposit but after multiple questions we finally understood this was an extra insurance for the car and a fee so we don’t have to pay a larger deposit of 1200,-.
Same confusion and frustration was seen at the other customers at the desk.

The 1200 euro deposit was RIDICULOUS…
The 1200 euro deposit was RIDICULOUS and was charged to my credit card right away, instead of a hold. Sixt only held a 300 euro deposit and didn’t charge the credit card. It took me one email and about 1 week to get my refund back. Because of their bill first and refund later policy, I lost 2.5% of 1200 euros twice (i.e. 60 euros) to the credit card company for foreign exchange fees. Meanwhile, the car was SO DIRTY on the outside and the tires were worn out. I had 3 more rentals with Sixt on the Canary Islands. I will never rent with Topcar again.

Certainly not a TOPCAR experience in any way
On arrival we attended the Desk in Arrivals all went well. However on arriving at the car park office it went downhill very quickly. We waited an hour for the car with no communication from Top car staff on how long we were expected to wait.
On collection the car was not clean.
On return the car was not checked as they were to busy. As requested we returned the car full and without damage.
However they have not returned all of the excess deposit paid holding back £20 without any explanation.
I have complained directly to TOPCAR an awaiting a response.
Do not use this company

Insurance fraud
Collected our rental car from Tenerife today. They lied to us, claiming there was no insurance (CDW) in place and forced us to pay an extra €50. In retrospect this has been all wrong. Of course the usual CDW is in their contracts, and an eventual excess would have been covered by our separate excess waiver.

What a crap service
What a crap service. The first car we got had a tapes mirror that broke down after 2 days and one light was broken! We had to drive back for one hour to exchange it.
No excuses whatsoever from the staff.
The second car we got had broken signal lights. We repaired it ourselves and after a one hour drive we git a flat tire.
The staff one the phone wanted us to pay to get this car exchanged.

Very long waiting
Very long waiting. Both for getting the contract (only 2 employees helping with a long queue) and after that, long waiting time to collect the car, because it has to be cleaned.

What can we say from a company that…
What can we say from a company that knows the time you will pick up your car which you have already paid for and makes you stay in the queue at the airport for 4h!! Unacceptable.

TopCar Lanzarote
I am giving them 3 stars as I had an average experience.
Staff: Lovely, friendly people, i cannot fault the service when doing the paperwork, or return.
Paperwork: note that this is all electronic, (no paper copies are given), so you will need data service to access the document.
Car: The car was located a short walk from the terminal in a car park. Annoyingly, the car was blocked in by another, and with nobody to take it out, I had to reverse the car on to the pavement, then drive it off and manouvre it around the other cars. Given that this is not my car, it isn't something I was entirely comfortable doing (but it was fine).
Deposit: Deposits are normal process for carhire but normally these are ringfenced holds, top car charged me 900 euros, to which i lost £30 in the currency conversion. So, if euros are not your usual currency, please be mindful of this.
