The car we hire actually ran quite well, but we did take photos of the bashes and scrapes on the vehicle before driving it away. However, our week holiday was blighted by rain and that's when I notic... See more

I rented a car 12 days for 1500€
I rented a car 12 days for 1500€. Price is fine. point is, I forgot my suspender/braces (not expensive ones) in the trunk of the car. I am still on the island and i want to pick them up.
So after an hour i dropped the car, I called them, I left a message on their mailbox and I politely asked them to call me. so i wrote a mail. no answer, no mail, no call, no nothing. i payed 1500€, are you ok?

Double Insurance Charge and Missing Deposit – Unacceptable
I was charged twice for insurance: once when I booked the contract and again when I picked up the car. This is completely unacceptable and feels like a dishonest practice.
On top of that, my €200 deposit has not been refunded, despite returning the car in perfect condition. I have already contacted customer service and demanded a refund of the €70 extra insurance charge and the €200 deposit. If this is not resolved immediately, I will escalate the matter to consumer protection authorities and initiate a chargeback through my bank.
This experience has been extremely disappointing, and I strongly advise others to be cautious when dealing with this company.

Over an hour in the queue
I have been
waiting in the queue at Tenerife South airport for well over an hour, and there are 30 customers behind me. It's awful.

A relatively good experience with room for improvement
Rented a car from TopCar via Booking.com.
The car was picked up at the airport in Gran Canaria and returned to the same location a week later.
Contract A569056.
Quick delivery of car keys and directions to where the car was parked.
The car was a really nice size and matched what was wanted when ordering. By the way - the price was extremely reasonable.
The car was cleaned. Everything on the car worked as expected.
Drop-off was just as quick as pick-up. The car was parked in a parking space, the keys were handed over, and I informed TopCar where the car was parked and that it was fully fueled. And then everything was fine.
I was not satisfied with three things:
1) The rental contract was not reviewed. I just had to sign. This creates insecurity - especially if there is damage to the car.
2) Finding a parking space at the airport when I dropped off the car. There were rental cars everywhere - even outside the parking spaces, and there wasn't much space. I don't know if it could be improved, as the access roads are narrow and the parking spaces aren't exactly for medium-sized cars.
3) That TopCar doesn't just make a reservation for the deposit in my bank account - like other car rental companies do - but deducts the full amount when I pick up the car.
NB! The deposit has been added to my bank account again.

A new car in perfect condition
A new car in perfect condition, at a good price. The 1200 Euros deposit was refunded, with just a few Euros missing – but I made sure the deposit was taken in my credit card currency - Australian dollars - this skips the conversion rate loss. We had to wait a long time to receive the car, but they nicely said we did not need to fill the car with petrol upon return to compensate. I would definitely use their services again. Note: no email communication after drop off - the deposit was simply returned.

Dirty child seat resulting in rash
Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with TopCar in Fuerteventura during our holiday in november 2025. Already at the car pick-up we faced extremely long waiting times, which set a negative tone for the entire rental.
We expected to receive a good and safe European car, but instead we were given a Chinese car where both safety and quality did not meet our expectations. Driving it felt unsafe, and it was far from the standard we had anticipated.
In addition, we rented a baby seat, which turned out to be old, dirty, and in such poor condition that our baby developed a rash from sitting in it. This is completely unacceptable, especially when paying extra for something that should be clean and safe.
All in all, we cannot recommend TopCar. Lack of professionalism, poor quality, and unsafe conditions mean that we will never rent from them again.

Disgusting costumer service
I booked a car in Lanzarote for four days, and on the third day, the driver's wiper blade was stolen. It was December and rainy, so I wouldn't be able to drive the car without the wiper blade. I barely managed to drive back to the airport in pouring rain and blind. Luckily, we had full insurance, but the customer service we received from the short blonde woman was beyond disgusting. She charged us for a full tank of missing fuel (the car was above half a tank, by the way) because, as she said, "common sense," the fuel is not included in the insurance, which we knew. However, the car was not safe to drive because you couldn't see anything in that crap weather without wiper blades. But of course, she did not care; she even told us to move along because other customers were waiting. Clearly, because they already had our money, we were not qualified customers anymore.
But yes, common sense, sure. Now we know that we should always return the car with a full tank, or they will rip you off with zero empathy, zero helpfulness, but a big smile.
!!!! Highly NOT recommended!!!!

Awful experience.
Terminal paperwork was sorted quickly, that's where the positives end! Was told car was on the left at end of terminal, walked around for 20 mins, then found the Topcar return area, asked there and was told it was in a random bay in the bus garage. Car was ok, but they physically charged €900 to my credit card, original booking paperwork said €700, instead of an authorised pending transaction, therefore got charged foreign transaction fees, ending up more out of pocket. Been hiring cars in Lanzarote for almost 30 years and have never been charged like this with any other company. Just authorised pending released once car is safely returned. Certainly won't be using Topcar again.

Receive €92 less from the deposit
Receive €92 less from the deposit? Yes, that's what happened with TOPCAR. If you're outside the Eurozone, they'll give you €1,200 back, but you're €92 poorer. They won't block the money on your credit card, but they'll just deduct it (they'll charge interest) and then transfer it back. Everything is fine from their point of view, but the result is that you'll receive less money from the deposit! They even have it in their terms and conditions. So consider whether the low price will compensate you for it. Other rental companies don't do this. They just block and unblock deposits. This company will deduct the money from your account. Everything is fine according to them, but it will cost you money.

Terrible service
Terrible service, 2hrs in queue to pick up car, they actually take the money from your account for excess, so you end up with another £50 bank charge, never again

BEWARE
BEWARE. You have 2 options at the desk, 1, pay a deposit (mine was €900) or 2, purchase extra excess insurance (I was asked for €45).
I already purchesed this excess insurance in the UK for £19 so paid the €900 thinking it was just a pre-charge on my credit card. NO, they actually take the payment!
Just looked at my statement and I was refunded the day after my return home BUT less £48. Tank was full, I wasnt late and there was no additional damage that I photographed on collection.
Never again!

Good service and reasonable price at Gran Canaria
Unlike some of the other reviews we have used TopCar at Gran Canaria regularly over several years and no problems.
They used to share an office with Autoreisen but split up a couple of years back.
I've sometimes had a wait when collecting but no more than 15 minutes or so - it's a shame they don't use priority queue when you've filled in info upfront as you get stuck behind those who haven't, so what's the point of filling in info upfront!
At Gran Canaria their rental desk is in airport.
I normally pay for their extra insurance, which add some cost, but I've found it gives peace of mind and the hand back is very quick - I did have a bump once and other than fillign in a short form no problem.
Cars are usually good, only once a problem when a C3 (yuck!!) given instead of a Kia Rio.

Fraud with insurance and deposit
Booked them with booking.com, took the insurance there. On the spot, they said that booking insurance is not enough, and I either pay additional insurance or leave a deposit of €1500, which I did. Everything ran smoothly with the car, I was happy before the day they reached out and said that they would not return my deposit because the car was damaged. I provided a video of the car BEFORE I took it where some of the damage is clearly visible, so it looks like a fraud where they lent you a damaged car and then claim your deposit, trying to push this damage on you. Beware of this; otherwise, nice service. It is a shame they do these kinds of things.

Long wait, big deposit, but all great
We rented at Arrecife Airport. I always choose the car rentals very carefully, I never opt for the cheapest one, and I always check reviews. Everything turned out great. The pick-up, though, was over 1 hour despite having done online check-in. They need to think of solutions, maybe drop-off office can do the pick-up too? Maybe separate lines with online check-in and without?
We got a promotion from DiscoverCars with a 2nd driver for free and ended up getting a better car than planned. The deposit is 900€ and they withdraw it immediately if you do not buy their insurance (around 80€). In my online agreement I did not see any of the pre-existing scratches on the car, so I did worry about the return and whether those would be blamed on me. We picked the car up at night and it was rather impossible to photo the dents in a bad lighting. At the pick-up they seemed to be rather laid back about it, and that also gave me a sense of security. Everything turned out well, the drop-off took us 10 seconds and the deposit was returned to my account 6 days later.
When returning the car, make sure you follow the signs to P4. It does not appear in Google Maps or Waze, so you will have to find it at the airport yourself.

3 hour wait for the car at…
3 hour wait for the car at Fuerteventura airport. Long queues. No information on when it would be available. No contract provided with car. No written agreement on condition of the vehicle.

I had to cancel last minute and they were polite and helpful. 2 things that many other companies are not.

Terrible customer service
We returned the car two days earlier than planned and informed TopCar via their website/AI service and by email. We never received any reply to any of our messages.
On the return day, we delivered the car at 12:00 and handed the keys directly to two staff members at the office. After that, we still heard nothing — no confirmation, no update, and no final invoice.
The lack of communication is extremely frustrating and unacceptable. I expect a rental company to respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner and provide clear information. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience.

A bunch of Crooks and Liars
We arrived in the evening to Arrecife airport and woman at Top Car desk took 900€ deposit although I paid 40€ in advance for "full insurance", gave us key with instructions where to find a car (wrong instructions as car was parked on another parking 300m away). I asked if someone will go and check with us car condition to be sure but she said that guys already checked it and that it is fine and if I want I can check it by my self in the morning on a day light and let them know if there was something which I did, first thing in the morning - car was scratched all around, literally on all sides. I took ten or more photos, phoned the office and sent them over WhatsApp for the evidence. Otherwise car (Toyota Yaris) was in good condition, clean and tank was full. I returned the car in the same condition as received, 4 days and 12 hours after (booked for 5 days), with full tank. And today I noticed that they actually took 900€ from my MasterCard. A bunch of crooks and liars. I contacted their online service and opened a case in a "chat" which started almost in an instant. After receiving case number I asked the agent to send it on my e-mail address that confirmation number as a proof but after that nothing. Anyway they not gonna get it this time, not from me! I am ready to stop this fraudulent business.
