The hire car part was fine although the car hadn’t been cleaned. It’s the financial part that puts me off using them again. They insist on taking a credit card deposit of 900 euros which is actually normal but what sets them apart is rather than just putting a hold on the account they take the money. It’s takes them seconds to take but weeks to return and I’ve not had mine back yet. Worse than that they insist on a credit card rather than debit card so by the time the interest is added and the conversion for taking and refunding the cost is actually about £75 more than expected. There is no reason they can’t put a hold on other than it’s more profitable for them not to. I won’t be using again.
Queued for ages (approx 2 hours) then unable to collect car as < than 3 years driving experience which was not clearly stated on booking.com. Really bad experience.
Do not use! Extremely long wait of 3 hours at Fuerteventura airport.
One person at the desk taking 15 minutes to deal with each customer, even though most (myself included) had filled in the pre booking form with all relevant details.
Part way through the wait, the clerk left the desk to go to the shop, walking slowly back on their phone!
Once at the desk they did not have the car I had booked, trying to say they were giving me a free upgrade, which was not the case!
Once I left the airport desk to go to top office I was then advised my car wasn’t ready, even though it was 3 hours after we should have picked up the car! We then waited a further 20 minutes.
Almost 4 hours after joining the queue we finally left for our destination, with one very distressed and bored baby !
Will never ever use again or recommend to anyone.

Review of TopCar – Fuerteventura Airport
This experience was so substandard that it feels more like a public service announcement than a review.
We arrived at Fuerteventura Airport and waited two hours in a queue just to reach the check-in desk. When we finally got there, we were told we had to take an additional £49 insurance, which felt far from optional.
The check-in process itself then took another 30 minutes, largely due to the company being clearly and severely understaffed. By the time we were handed the keys, we were told to head to the pickup area where the car was supposedly ready.
After approximately 2.5 hours at the airport, we reached the pickup area — only to be told the car wasn’t ready at all and was still in the cleaning bay. When I asked how long it would take, I was told they had no idea — it could be 10 minutes or an hour.
I expressed my frustration at this point, having already spent hours waiting. The staff member’s response was shocking: he told me to leave a bad review because his boss “doesn’t care and is drinking cocktails in Miami.”
Around 45 minutes later, the car finally arrived — but only after I reminded them that we were still waiting, as they had seemingly forgotten about us.
When we got into the vehicle, the fuel gauge showed zero miles remaining, which immediately put us in a panic trying to locate a petrol station. To make matters worse, we were given no information whatsoever about how or where to return the car at the end of the hire period — we had to search online ourselves.
I have given one star purely because zero isn’t an option.
I would strongly advise others to avoid TopCar.

The car was grand. However the €200 deposit for the key return was never deposited back into my account. There was no event or problem with the car. Just they don't bother returning the deposit. At the time they said you are fully insured and no problem with anything, all good. Now I get home and they just never return the €200 and no way of contacting them. Rip off!!! Beware

Tenerife. Pick up at the counter was slow and a bit confusing. The staff seemed very tired. We paid 900 euro up front as a security, this money was supposed to be paid back a week after we returned the car. A week to refund is a long time. The car was fine. Drop off fine. But our 900 euros wouldnt leave Topcars account. We didnt get our money untill two weeks after the return of the car.

Terrible service! Terrible staff! You book a baby seat, but you have to install for yourself! And even if it isn’t safe… the staff tell you that this is the service! They just make fun of you, even if the babe seat move all around the vehicle: and on the qebsite is wroten: you take care of the security of the youngest one most of all! You have just to controll that the babe seat is correctly installed. That’s so far away from the truth! Thay just want your money, and the staff does not help you! Most of all they make fun of you!! Never again in my life

Shockingly bad customer service. Do not hire a vehicle from these clowns. I was lucky that I was number 3 in the check in queue but it still took over 30 minutes to get to me. When I left there were at least 8 or 9 behind me so god knows how long it took for them to be dealt with. Collecting the car was no better - it took a further 45 minutes to get the keys. The staff at check in and collection were rude, dismissive and unprofessional. Dropping the car off at the end of my holiday was much the same so neither experience could be put down to a "bad day". I've not yet had my credit card statement but reading all the other comments on here regarding how they treat and account for "deposits" worries me. Avoid this company at all costs.

We had an hours wait to get checked in. They had 3 people working but the process just seemed to take an age with each client. The staff at the desk were helpful enough, but the 1st issue arrived within minutes. Apparently they didnt have the car we had booked and would be offered an alternative. Except that the car they were offering wasnt ready and needed to be cleaned. Was told 15 minutes. Which didnt seem to bad, but if only this was the case. 1.5 hour later and the car was apparently ready. Not sure who cleaned it but think they drove it through a flock of birds and off road before handing it to us.
2nd scam is they make you sign a contract without even seeing it. They just make you sign the agreement. 3rd scam, they physically charge your card €1200 and then when anyone complains put up a link to their website as some sort of justification. Every other company (car rental, hotels etc) can just put a block on the card for the amount but dont actually charge it. Not these guys, they physically charge you and then benefit from the interest they earn on your money. 4th scam is they then dont even refund your deposit or at least claim that it is your own bank that is taking the time. Which is absolute rubbish as most accounts these days you can not only see pending payments, you can also see pending refunds. When you return the car they just say it will be automatically returned, yet quick read here shows that is not the case. There is no communication from them and they dont answer emails etc.
5th scam is part of signing the contract in that you have no idea about the condition of the car. When you query it they simply reply, take photos. But then when you return the car the staff behind those counters cant be bothered to even come and look. You can show them the photos or video but they simply dont care. The lady who took our keys just said ill let them know about the photos. You get no confirmation email that the deposit is returned or even if there are issues. You just have to hope you get your money back. Ill be raising it with my bank that these guys are scam artists.
Car hire part was fine.
What upsets me is that they can take a €900 deposit in seconds, but their business process takes “up to 15 working days” to refund that deposit.
They expend more energy in defending that 15 days than doing anything to improve the process or reduce that time. Shocking attitude to customer service. Would not use again and will actively warn others against using them.

We had a reservation and made online check-in a few days before car pickup, and we still waited more than 3 hours for a car. The car we got was not the same category we reserved and paid for. It was of course worse (way less comfortable).
The staff was clueless and made pathetic excuses. They provided us with a "bonus" to return a car with empty fuel tank, but the car we got was already empty.
We were not the only customers waiting for hours.
I never had worst experience, and I rented cars all over the world.

But more importantly I'd booked and paid for a Audi Q3 (or similar) for my family and (lots of) luggage.
At the desk I asked what we would be getting and he seemed to be deliberately vague - saying "it's the same".
It was actually a Q2, a compact car, which was too small for our luggage.
This isn't OK. They said they didn't have another option. No offer of refunding the difference.

Never even again would we use this company. They may be slightly cheaper than the others , but don't be fooled. Two and a half hour , wait after a four hour flight. Customer service is shocking. 8.Desks and only three staff helping customers. The car's not ready for customers. Being told that the cars were being washed. Terrible system and terrible service. The car is lovely but it took so long to get it very frustrated people. Little chooses crying evening flights , absolutely terrible company.

The vehicle was not what we booked and according to them they only had one automatic vehicle so no other car was available. Every panel on the car was damaged some badly and the only response from them when we challenged this was 'just take pictures'. We booked the car through Zest Car Rental and paid for the full/extended insurance package but when we arrived to collect the vehicle this was not the case and we had to pay another €80 which felt like a scam but we had no choice as the refund period had expired, I would avoid this company at all costs

2 1/2 hr queue upon arrival which never seemed to move. Staff always on the phone due to an obvious lack of vehicles. I was supposed to pick up my car at 1800hrs. Got to the front of the queue at 2030hrs. Paid for the car but it still wasn't ready for another 15 minutes. Went to pick it up, waited, only to received a filthy car, service light on, and a Cat C (Kia Ceed) not a Cat CN (Duster) that I paid for. Raised with customer services online which went ignored. Never again, A TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE......

This is the first time I am writing a review before even collecting the vehicle. I sincerely hope I can update this later with a more positive experience, but so far it has been extremely disappointing.
To begin with, I encountered a very rude staff member when I approached to ask for directions to the main desk. After a long flight, the last thing any traveler needs is unhelpful or dismissive behavior.
I am currently standing in an exceptionally long queue with many other stressed travelers waiting to collect their vehicles. The QR code provided to complete the booking form in advance (supposedly to reduce waiting time), shockingly does not work, which has only made the situation worse.
Meanwhile, other car rental companies such as AutoReisen, Goldcar, Thrifty, Europcar, Hertz, and Cicar have little to no queues.
I am absolutely not confident that I would be given the vehicle I booked. A Very disappointing experience so far. Lesson learned.

I picked the car up without giving it a thorough inspection, my fault
But driving away from the airport I had driven the car 30 seconds I noticed the mirror was damaged, I filmed this showing the location, date and time, thinking it was damage they were aware of
When I returned the car, showed them the damage and the video, they blamed me for the damage, and took it out of the deposit I’d paid. if I’d done it, I would’ve be the first to hold my hand up.
Would never use these again, always used autoreisen before and would definitely go back to them.
Anyone that has booked already definitely do a thorough video immediately before getting in the car
